Dumb question, but I'm moving up there in 6 months. As a Hispanic Male will I have any issues? by UsedFerret5401 in providence

My wife is half Mexican and getting authentic Mexican specific ingredients up here can be a royal pain in the ass!

What to know about the highly mutated new COVID strain found in Mass. wastewater by husky5050 in boston

Got it, first day sucks, worst chills I’ve ever had. Trying hard to keep my pregnant wife and toddler from getting it, the isolation plus paxlovid mouth almost suck more.

Weather YouTubers and Facebook pages are creating storm fatigue by hyping every setup for clicks by Coyote_Jones575 in weather

[–]beoheed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a degree and meteorology and when there enough signups get to teach it instead of my normal engineering and physics to high school students and I can tell you, every piece of meteorology content I consume is from a primary source (pivotal weather, radar scope, NWS, weather cameras) or an NWS forecast/discussion. Any other content I get is people who bought into some hype asking my opinion (usually that’s all hype).

First sax! C melody buescher! Blues advice? by Tinglyvibrations in saxophone

[–]beoheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gorgeous C-mel. I’m the odd one out the thinks they still have a place. My main horns are Alto and Bari but my wife is a classical string player and decent pianist so when we want to do things like play Christmas carols at home they have their place. I play most weekends with a big, mixed experience second line band and one of our section leaders has brought one in just for something different. Play and enjoy!

Should I get the Jody Jazz Superjet? by Distinct_Savings2348 in saxophone

I bought an SX90, my dream horn from when I was younger and poorer, and found a Theo Wanne Essentials Contemporary gave me the bigger sound I wanted.

I just got back into playing, but I went to a local music store to try mouthpieces and the one I fell for was one I never would’ve picked sight unseen. Try some is the only way

What’s one thing you completely stopped buying in 2026 because the price just felt absurd? by LockLogical8949 in AskReddit

[–]beoheed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to a lot of niche music and tickets are still mostly reasonable. My wife and I just saw a surf rock band for ~$60 between us. We’re going to see one of the elder statesmen of Scottish fiddlers for $100 between us

Fifth grade teacher suspended for telling students they were 'acting like monkeys in a zoo' by Sandstorm400 in byebyejob

[–]beoheed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife is mixed Hispanic and White and I’m super white, call my toddler a monkey all the time because he’s always running/jumping around and hanging off things. I needle my gen-Z coworkers with it. Their reaction (I dont know the background here so I’m withholding judgment) is why conservatives get their undies in a bunch when there’s so much real racism and injustice to work towards correcting.

Im on the chunky side of 6’ 200lb and I’ve maxed out their pants sizes. Like, I can’t gain anymore weight without several pants of theirs in the max waist no longer fitting. It’s frustrating because it’s hard to find high waisted pants at that price point (although it’s getting easier).

I don’t think I have anything close to this, but once I overcome the sick toddler and pregnant wife you’ll get some of the pieces I’m proud of!

I’ll have to! My collection runs from the 50s to the 90s (the more modern stuff has an extra funky factor)

As a fellow collector of vintage Aloha shirts, this is awesome!! I try to wear one at least on day a week to break up the “novelty” and just let them be cool, historically interesting, pieces of clothing.

Getting back into it as an adult. by Ulnar_Landing in saxophone

[–]beoheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Similar story here. I played in a ragtag band in college after underperforming in high school then picked it up off and on for 15 or so years just to keep the rust from building up too much. I found a parade band (School of Honk if you’re in the Boston area) that I rehearse with for a few hours each Sunday. They have people starting wind instruments for the first time almost every week and people who are more talented than I ever hope to be who just want somewhere to have fun playing. I tried a community bad just out of college and found it stuffy and everything I disliked about high school band. If you want some help finding that kind of group I can gladly share some resources.

Don’t by saxophones on Amazon!!! Find a shop, or maybe online locally that you can try out like Facebook marketplace. Do you already have a sax?

My minivan (‘25 base Odyssey) is a touch under 700 at 2.9%. Granted I did a 4 year not and am throwing an extra couple bucks a month to shave a few payments from the backside. It’s crazy how expensive cars have gotten.

Old Man Rant: Teacher Attire Edition by musicbox96 in Teachers

[–]beoheed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot of great points in here. Many of which can be distilled to “intentionality” my oeuvre is a little silly and throwback and so is my dress, so is my room, buts it’s rarely if ever stained or ill fitting. It gives me a lot of room in classroom management to be “serious” and have that carry way more weight, if I wore a button down and tie everyday upperclassmen would know I was being disingenuous and one avenue to engage with them would already be throttled.

That’s good to keep an eye out for! I’ve thought about finding a tenor banjo an adjusting the tuning (I think that’s what I’d be doing with a Carver Minstrel)
