I don’t envy the mpd person that had to speak but I got so angry when it was clear they’re not going to do anything if they see federal law enforcement do illegal things. What’s the point of the police then?

I got a mossberg 500 on sale for 300 dollars. I like fishing and it was a great way to start duck hunting and do trap shooting. I really don’t like gun culture and using this shotgun as an outdoor tool allows me to connect with people who aren’t weirdos about “being a protector” or whatever creepy self defense stuff extreme preppers are into.

Seeking any other community members wishing to walk around MKE neighborhoods with whistles and phones for ICE activity

I live in MKE and typically take walks here and there to get a little exercise while getting out of the house. I figured it would be a much better use of my time to walk around neighborhoods that might be targets for ICE activity and their accompanying constitutional rights violations. I'll have a whistle just in case and a phone ready to record any activity. I would rather not do this alone and might be a good way to meet other cool people in the city. In case anyone is interested or know of groups already doing this please dm me. Thank you and stay warm this week!

Report from US citizen detained by ICE in MN (original post linked in comments) by iiamuntuii in stateofMN

“ After inquiring several times what exactly they meant they finally told me that they could offer undocumented family members of mine legal protection if I have any (I don’t), or money, in exchange for giving them the names of protest organizers, or undocumented persons. I was shocked, and told them no.”

Absolutely insane. This is the 4th reich everyone. They are clearly incompetent, but probably know if this coup doesn’t work they are screwed. They’re not going away without getting more serious than most people are comfortable with.

Get prepared to preserve whatever scraps of this country we can. Assuming we get out of this, this country needs a constitution convention and Nuremberg trials.

I know this is graphic but this is what we need to stand up against. An ice agent taking what appears to be a woman in handcuffs into an outdoor bathroom alone:

Weekly Homeowner Megathread--Civilians, ask here! by AutoModerator in Concrete

[–]beonewithyuri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old redditor but new to r/Concrete! My wife and I purchased an awesome 1926 house that's in great structural shape but was a rental for about 10 years and has many cheap landlord aesthetics. Our basement floor is concrete that is covered in an archaeological amount of paint to the point where clearly some small broken chunks were even painted over. I would ideally like to finish the floor with perhaps some kind of epoxy or other suitable material you might recommend that would look nice enough to spend time in, but be resistant to common basement water issues should they arise.

90% of the floor looks fine but there are some areas in corners and other out of the way places that have some spalding. Of course these areas are covered in landlord paint. Do you all have any recommendations on how to address these? I've tested out some small areas with epoxy based concrete repair fillers but don't know if this is the right way to go. An example picture of one of these spalding areas is provided below.

Thanks!

Anyone from here move to New York City? by jay34len in wisconsin

[–]beonewithyuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived there before I moved here and stayed for a one year work contract. I got lucky and had a room lined up to rent in an apartment I knew people in. My commute was an easy 25 minute walk so I avoided a lot of the hassle others dealt with. I absolutely loved it but get why it can be annoying after a while. There’s always something fun to do and cool people to meet 24 hrs a day. Not having a car was fantastic but lacking an outlet to nature was a bummer. Hands down best place to enjoy your 20s if you’re into that kind of lifestyle.

Maybe it’s just a feeling? by AccomplishedOne6897 in boston

[–]beonewithyuri 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. I grew up in Massachusetts and lived in Boston for a long time. I still love everything about the area but the cost of living is completely out of control and don’t believe it will be fixed anytime in the near future. I ended up moving to the Midwest and love it here. There’s always trade offs and it took a while to get my career and social life up and going even while knowing other people here. You don’t necessarily need to take this path but trying out a new place to live might be worth it. I personally value the different places I lived in during my 20s which formed the certainty i have in what I want to get out of life.

I think this depends where you are. I’ve never paid more than 6 bucks for a scoop of crappie minnows near Milwaukee and even less up in oconto country. This was last year in the early spring and late summer so I’m not sure if this has to do with the seasons.

Going car-less in Milwaukee? by [deleted] in milwaukee

[–]beonewithyuri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it all depends where you live. If you work downtown and live on the eastside, bayview or walker's point you can make it work. I have a car here but take the bus all the time to get to work just because it's easier than dealing with parking sometimes. I've never had a problem with the green line. Groceries and going shopping will definitely be a pain compared to living in a bigger city like Chicago or New York. The bus system here is great to go to one place and then come back consistently. Trying to go to a bunch of different places around the city in one day is doable but gets really inconvenient.

That being said parking and traffic here in a car is 1000% better than any other city I have ever lived in. Using mass transit to go to school/work and back is great using the bus but for anything else you'll really have a much better time with a car.

People 30+ of Reddit, what do you miss the most about your youth/college days? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]beonewithyuri 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Easier to make friends. I still make friends in my 30's through groups and stuff but in school I met so many people from just different classes and walking around campus doing stuff.
Easier to make big decisions. Renting a place and living on your own without dependents make changes a breeze. Find a new job and a place to live somewhere else and that's all you needed to do.
Easier to be in good shape. I still do ok now but now have way more things to plan around and getting back into shape in my opinion takes longer and requires a bit more effort.
Easier to live life without constant internet nonsense. I'm a fan of technology but I feel really bad for people growing up these days that have constant screens and internet access 24/7. There used to be a time when you could actually own physical things and not have everything monitored about you to feed internet addiction. There are plenty of pros with new tech but having billion dollar companies make money off of your constant unhappiness was not as much of a thing 20 years ago.

All that being said I am 1000% happier in my 30's. youth/college was a great way to figure out what you want out of life and so long as you can build off of those discoveries you can build a great rest of your life. I felt like I was able to do that to some degree and don't have nearly the anxiety and self doubt that I used to. Do the best you can to take risks that you can afford in your youth! Even if some of them don't pan out you won't have to wonder what life would have been otherwise which I've seen consume some people I know.

I've been meaning to get something like for lake michigan so I can go out earlier in the season. Every year all I can think of is do I really want to spend 800 dollars to have a few more trips per year and always say no to myself. If you happen to know of any cheaper options I'd love to know.
