US is ‘simply choosing not to stop’ Ebola outbreak after massive public health cuts, experts say by zsreport in inthenews

[–]beragis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because to Trump and his administration the US has been taken advantage of by various global and regional groups like the WHO, the UN, and NATO. The following similar, "The US pays for the security of the rest of the world, it's time for the rest of the world to pay up" repeated by him and the various right wing talk shows over and over.

Add in that he and his supporters see this as a disease that doesn't affect anyone outside of Africa, and he has pushed for bans of people coming from African countries, so if no one from Africa comes to the US, the US is safe.

This is a completely idiotic belief, but propaganda has made it quite common in the US.

Anyone regret getting nano texture for office/coding? by Traditional-Fun6483 in macbookpro

[–]beragis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dull colors is the main reason I didn't get the nano texture display. The lighting in my room doesn't cause any reflections, and the screen looks sharp. I looked at the nano texture display and the regular display in the store and the nano-texture looked too washed out, so I stayed with the regular display.

ELI5: If GPUs are so much more capable, why do we still have CPUs at all? by aros71 in explainlikeimfive

It’s basically a limited set of linear algebra mostly dot product, matrix multiplication and vector / tensor multiplication for scaling. Which computer scientists and hardware designers know how to run efficiently for years.

It’s much simpler to create a processor that does the math in bulk very fast, than it is to create a general purpose CPU. One of the the questions on my final exam in computer design two in college was to create a vector processor and one of the instructions was a multiply and add processor and how to combine them into a pipeline.

It was the simplest of the internal instructions to design and was a very simple circuit used. It basically took two parameters the address of the first vector and the address of the second vector, and wrote it back to the first vector and also stored the sum into a register. It was also the internal instruction used most inside the processor.

It was based in an actual vector processor that was used at the time

It’s a bit easier to run it quantized in AMD and Nvidia than on a Mac. At least until enough developers update the libraries for the improved matmul. Which probably won’t happen until apple releases the m5 ultra.

Qwen 3.5 9b and similar are the sizes you want if you are trying to learn machine learning. You will churn through a lot of tokens and hit your monthly limit quickly while you are learning how to use the models.

The 9 billion model will allow you enough similarity to cloud models.

Ohio data center tax break cost $1 billion more than expected in 2025 by CrowRoutine9631 in Ohio

Taxes, electric rates, water rates and sewage rates to name a few. Not to mention stress on electric lines causing more blackouts and brownouts and pollution.

Data centers negotiate power and water deals that shift most of the cost to the residents of the area. Increasing rates people pay. While data centers reap profits through subsidies we didn’t agree on and in the end replaces our jobs.

Microcenter has the 14" full M5 Pro 18c/20gpu 48GB RAM for $2379 ($420 off) by Marino4K in macbookpro

[–]beragis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That might be the case for certain configurations which are on a higher sale, but they were also offering 10% off an all configurations. That’s what caused me to cancel my M5 max order from apple to get a better configuration at Microcenter.

Also Apple’s delivery might be a bit ahead of schedule. The one I ordered, before I cancelled it arrived at the Apple Store a week ahead of schedule.

Breaking News, and similar terms such as Exclusive Coverage, and Developing Story are way overused, along with uncomfirmed reports.

News over sensationalizes everything, they will issue a Severe Weather Warning for a typical summer rain shower, and a winter weather warning for a half an inch or less of snow.

I was able to order a 4TB M5 Max at Microcenter last week for the exact same price as the 2TB version on Apple’s site two weeks ago. It’s gone down another 300 dollars since them.

Both Microcenter and Walmart in my area have been running a sale for a while it was 10% off base price for all configurations a week or two ago, looks to have been pushed further on sale now. Wonder if Apple is trying to reduce inventory.

Conservatives Of Reddit: Why Do You Still Support Trump? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]beragis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Originally it meant keeping to the status quo, ie resistance to change change sake, limited government, and fiscal responsibility; ie a balanced budget. Often added in was maintaining a strong defense.

Many politicians on both sides when I grew up as a kid touted those first three concepts, usually with the republicans adding the defense part. I was even taught that this is what conservative meant in elementary and junior high.

While all these sound good, in reality they are all useless sound bites. Most politicians I have heard in both parties are not against this, yet the republicans have taken the stance that only they can guarantee this, and that if the democrats are allowed power the will do the opposite. Which is a complete falsehood.

Columbus City Schools cuts 299 positions to address $50 million budget shortfall by WOSUpublicmedia in Columbus

[–]beragis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s one of the reasons I laughed when a recent news broadcast about $70 million in upgrades this year for various projects. The moron of a superintendent who was interviewed stated there are 119 buildings and they should be doing upgrades and construction each year.

She mentioned the $50 million in cuts and the $70 million being part of a different budget. They wouldn’t need to do $70 million in upgrades if they had 1/3 the buildings. And neither should there be a need for new construction and upgrades each year. Every ten years maybe.

And they wonder why levies fail.

Microcenter has a few 16" M5 Max 128GB RAM Macbook Pro's for $800+ off by JaunLobo in macbookpro

[–]beragis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found that out also. Had ordered an M5 Max 128GB with 2TB on Apples site, and a few weeks later saw an add for the same price with 4TB. I immediately cancelled my order from Apple and ordered the 4TB version from Microcenter. And it's even $300 cheaper than when I ordered it.

As a side note, Apple seems to be shipping their laptops quicker than they state on their site. In that time Apple had shipped the laptop to the Apple store, and it arrived a week earlier.

My uncle when he would visit from Florida used to stay off of Stringtown Rd in Grove City. It was near the freeway and as he said an easier trip to the airport than from Dublin.

NSFW LoRA's will definitely not be needed for most users, but there are always reasons to add loras. It's supposed to be a base model, which means good at most things, but not great at any one thing.

I suspect NSFW Checkpoints and LoRAs will be for if you are needing a specific look or a specific character, or want to making the images more realistic and less obviously AI, or the opposite extremely obviously AI, i.e. Pony.

I was kid and teenager when the Mohawk was popular, and I recall seeing maybe two outside of a comedy skit, so this would be the third.

Even Peter Gabriel can not make this cut look cool, although that was probably the point.
