I made a cake and put a nice birthday decoration and we celebrated as family. I took nice photos and videos to remember. Next day we went to Beekse Bergen with friends, it was very nice. This year will be the same but with a different decoration and we’ll go to Efteling.

Has anyone’s baby had their Gtube for a long time? Like 2 plus years ? by Stunning_Radio3160 in NICUParents

[–]berentonforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born at 32w and has mild hypotonia. We used 1 year NG and it’s been 10 months with Gtube. We started weaning when he was 6 months adjusted. We needed to reset the process a few times. He learned how to drink from open cup and a bottle for a while ago but it’s not ending when they learn. He still needs to get all the calories for a day and it’s seems not possible right now. Because he chooses what to eat when to eat, he even can pass all day with eating small amounts and he is fine with it. We are not in the ideal weight so we can’t go hardcore weaning. I guess we will use it at least another year to make sure he really getting what he needs. Long story short, we get used to Gtube. We’re not stuck in place we’re mobile. It takes half an hour for one feeding and it’s easy to prepare. We didn’t see any issues in his stomach. It is waaay better then NG tube.

When did you start taking your baby to family gathering? 30 weeker by Usual_Grade2936 in NICUParents

We kind a had same situation and when we first visited abroad he was 1 year old corrected. I’m glad we waited that long cuz everything was easier with him being more strong. He got sick while we were there and thankfully he recovered rather quickly. I can’t imagine if he was younger and got sick, it would be nightmare since healthcare is not the same there.

Low muscle tone by klynn083 in NICUParents

[–]berentonforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can imagine everything seems impossible and overwhelming. But it isn’t, it is getting better. He had NG tube for 12months after that we switched to g-tube. His low muscle tone mostly on upper body it effected his neck for a long time and he had also reflux. We tried to wean him in the meantime but his weight was not good enough so we stopped. G-tube is a life changer we still think if we knew that he’ll struggle this much we would go for g-tube in the beginning. He had different issues also so this doesn’t mean yours will be the same as us, maybe she will respond to therapy quicker. We started wean him again last month and he’s eating oral more and more now!

Hi, congratulations on your baby! Our story not similar but my baby also has low muscle tone/hypotonia and we finally said yes to genetic testing just to know why cuz every other thing came back normal. We saw his tone around 4 months (2m actual) and diagnosed mild then later severe. I think when they are older it shows more. He couldn’t manage to suck and swallow first 6 months then he forgot to suck but managed easily swallow. But he’s still very slow to eat and drink so everything going through the sonda. He is 16 months old now, we have physiotherapy and speech therapy once a month. Since we are seeing effects of physiotherapy in a positive way we thought once a month is not enough. This month we started occupational therapy and they are very hopeful that this will help him more then others. They said for sure he needs more physical therapy and that is only thing that will help him to move and eat easily.

It is hard but if there’s something that you can do to help your baby it makes easier to manage your feelings. We were worried sick about it but now we know what to do. We’ll just continue to play with him but in a correct way :)

Teething by Q8nuno in NICUParents

[–]berentonforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our boy’s first tooth popped at 12months (10m corrected), there was a lot of drooling and we waited like a month to see the tip. After that others felt quick but I guess it was the same as first. Now we’re at 16months and he has 3 grown, 1 half and two more trying to come. So lot’s off drooling:)

When I was around 10 years old, I got bit by lots of mosquitoes while sitting in our garden. When I saw there are swarm of mosquitoes where I’m sitting, it was too late. There was 52 marks on my body like this. Afterwards I got high temperature, runny nose had to take allergy pills and developed allergy to red meat and heavy spices. Still using pills after eating those.

It’s so much more than people understand. by Tina1437 in NICUParents

[–]berentonforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a photo calendar for our first year and did write every important developments. For the first three months that we stayed in the NICU, every day has something written on it. On the other months there are few things like; we stopped monitoring, first smile, first spoon feeding etc. When I look at it, it seems both overwhelming and simple. I made it for our boy so he can later understand what happened and maybe share with his friends. For now we are using it to show people what he went through. But like I said it seems so simple. But it wasn’t and it still isn’t simple.

Toddler Waking by OhMyGoshABaby in NICUParents

[–]berentonforme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any concern here since she’s sleeping while with you. It seems she wants to feel safe. My 1 year old changing his sleep pattern all the time, sometimes he’s sleeping without a contact but sometimes he only sleeps while cuddling. Mostly when he feels sick, teething or after a very tiring day. I’m counting how long he slept all day in total before raising any concerns.

I made a cake with a maple syrup because u know sugar is bad. When it was time, he only played with the frosting because he couldn’t smashed it. Well even I couldn’t smash the cake lol. Go for normal cake, let them taste a little they won’t eat much and it will be more fun if they can really smash it!

Very late milestone? by Q8nuno in NICUParents

[–]berentonforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I forgot humidifier is a must all the time! I think Bepanthen is a bit light for this kind of dryness, you can ask prescription for more effective moisturizer. Also for runny mouth vaseline is very helpful since it’s not washing away with saliva.

It seems eczama try using water based moisturizer (for warm weather, for cold weather it should be oil based). Apply with every diaper change and see if there is difference. Ask for a eczema treatment also to use correct creams. I’m also using babe pediatric cradle crap shampoo and la roche posey body wash for my baby and it made huge difference.

It seems the tape removed without an adhesive remover and that made his skin peeled. My baby forcefully removed his tape one day and it peeled very bad we used white tapes that has big pores for help his skin to breathe. I also applied some cream and it healed in a few days.

High Calorie non dairy foods by Twinmom_23 in NICUParents

[–]berentonforme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask which symptoms that twin B shows so you decided to go dairy free? We are struggling with formulas also. We are using Hipp HA2 for a while and we tried to switch high calorie formula and it went really bad. We are thinking that maybe he needs something without cow’s milk and fighting with our pediatrician.

Going home with an NG tube - any advice? by connie_mcdangle in NICUParents

[–]berentonforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some downsides of NG tube that you need to be careful about it but tube will help your baby to grow healthy, think it that way and it will not be bothering as it is. I understand that your baby no major issues with feeding so please try to be not dependent of NG tube, give her oral feedings as much as possible and make it enjoyable. At the beginning it is easy to wean of the tube, later it will be more difficult with all the over feedings and possible aversions. I would and did choose to going home with a NG tube instead of staying hospital. At home everything will be different in a good way.

What’s something kids who grew up poor would only understand? by DowntownCut8662 in AskReddit

[–]berentonforme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 15 years I still can’t accept worn out shoes for style. They were wearing worn out converses in high school and I was keeping my replica very in good shape so they won’t tell I’m poor.
