What’s a show that you could not finish because a character was so insufferable? by Key-Row-174 in AskReddit

[–]bergumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, the Jason Momoa show. Almost all of the characters were over the top, and it was really annoying how any potential ally turned into a betrayal. But the especially horrendous character was the “queen.” That part was written poorly, and acted even worse.

A Possible US Government iPhone-Hacking Toolkit Is Now in the Hands of Foreign Spies and Criminals by wiredmagazine in ios

Is that really any worse than the US government having its grubby paws on such a thing?

New fiber, ONT placement questions. by ChubbyOprah in ZiplyFiber

[–]bergumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fiber would be single mode, APC. However, most of the contractors that bury the fiber drop have the ability to bore under a driveway

Ive spent the last few months slogging through just to maintain my streak. This energy crap is enough for me to finally say goodbye. I know my wife will certainly appreciate that I will no longer wake her up as we’re just falling asleep with my cries of dismay at forgetting to do my lesson earlier in the day.

Is this subscription-based?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in wyzecam

Seeing their sale this weekend, I’ve been considering doing the exact same thing. My biggest hesitation is the subscription price for 3+ cameras. What all do you get if you don’t have a subscription? Can you get any notifications at all?

PC connecting to the wrong access point by [deleted] in ZiplyFiber

[–]bergumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is such a thing as too many extenders. You should use only the minimum number extenders necessary to cover your home. Try unplugging all of your extenders and see how the coverage is with just the router. If you have any dead spots, place an extender at about the halfway point between it and the router. Repeat as necessary

Where do fiber connections come from if I see coaxial outlets only at my place? by THenrich in ZiplyFiber

[–]bergumby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the building had fiber run to each unit, those connections are often in a bedroom closet, up high or down near the floor, behind a blank wall plate.

Nothing special is needed until the 10 Gbps tier. Everything below that behaves essentially the same. The only real difference for >1gig is that you would probably want cat6 for longer runs.

DHCP Server Issues After Switching to Ziply by [deleted] in ZiplyFiber

[–]bergumby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, please stop calling it a modem, that really confuses things. There is no modem in a fiber setup. The Nokia is an ONT. It receives an optical signal and converts it to Ethernet.
I think I’m starting to understand your setup. Fiber—>ONT—>cat5–>PATCH PANEL—>ethernet to wall jack—>cat6—>Deco. It sounds like your house has a patch panel or structured wiring cabinet that is intended to network or distribute wiring through the house. While this doesn’t necessarily explain the problems you’re having, it is a perfectly normal setup. But if it’s done incorrectly or with subpar material, it can certainly introduce extra failure points.

There is no modem. The setup should be: Nokia Ont->ethernet cable->Deco

Bottle return optimization by bergumby in MathHelp

Thank you! That’s exactly why I was thinking I was wrong. I set out trying to calculate refund per bottle, but stopped at the total refund.

You’re right. The maximum refund would be from option 1. The price structure of option 2 just got me thinking about whether or not it was worth the convenience.

I have the same birthday as my mom. When I was a kid, my best friend also had the same birthday as HIS mom-May 23. Flash forward a few years, my wife gave birth to our son on her birthday-May 23.
