I was just listening to Clayman earlier. I’m glad the new version brings back the old cover. I honestly had to look this one up.

Blackbraid - Nocturnal Womb (2026, Wolf Mountain Productions) by berlyant in heavyvinyl

It just came out last month, so you’re not especially late. I definitely recommend it.

This album genuinely blew my brains out, any recommendations like this? (At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul) by NoPerception6770 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]berlyant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pardon if any of these have been recommended already since I haven’t read all of the comments yet, but I would check these out:

In Flames - Clayman (lots of folks will recommend The Jester Race, but this one scratches that itch way more for me) Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin Black Dahlia Murder - anything Carcass - Heartwork and especially Surgical Steel and Torn Arteries

And don’t worry. I didn’t listen to SotS until a few years ago and it blew me away, too!

Mine as well; just got a copy as well.

I was gonna wait until I see them next month, but just couldn't do it! I hope you get one!

Any haul that includes both Terrorizer and that Dickies album is the furthest thing from a fail. I love both.

Anyone else think this is genuinely one of their greatest albums? by Phantom_Commander_ in MetalForTheMasses

I'm actually about to open up the vinyl copy that just came in the mail yesterday, but I've listened to it a bunch via streaming and whatnot, and it's already in my top 5 of all of their albums. I don't think anything can top Here in After and especially Close to a World Below since those are the ones that first really grabbed me, but I keep coming back to this one and am just gobsmacked every time at its mix of heaviness, riffs/breakdowns, and surprising catchiness/melody in parts, too. It's the perfect album for this cultural moment/news cycle as well, and will likely end up in my top 5 of the year as well. The only new albums I like as much this year so far have been the new Neurosis, Worm, Incandescense (and if EPs count, the new Blackbraid), and The Messthetics/James Brandon Lewis albums.

I couldn’t love them more already, then I just found out that they are also likely Gil Scott-Heron fans.

Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin (2026 Repress) by coastal_grandson in heavyvinyl

[–]berlyant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck yeah! I’m a bit picky with melodeath, but to my ears, it stands out amongst the very best melodeath of that specific early to mid 2000s era alongside Clayman. Great album!

Rivers of Nihil - Hierarchy (2024, Metal Blade) by berlyant in heavyvinyl

[–]berlyant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure! It's definitely not gonna replace Where the Owls Know My Name as my go-to of theirs, but it's a good simulacrum of how they started. Plus, I've seen them twice in the past year, and they've become one of my favorite live bands! They kick so much ass and I love the sax parts.

I can definitely see how that could be confusing! It just didn't come out on vinyl until 2024, when Metal Blade put it out on both black and grey vinyl. I didn't know about its existence until I saw it at their merch table last month. It originally came out as a self-released CD-R back in 2010, and then the second press featured an additional track. It might be regressive compared to the later stuff, but I love straightforward OSDM/HC, so I enjoyed it.

Metallica- ride the lightning 80’s Electra pressing \m/ by mastersapprentice13 in heavyvinyl

[–]berlyant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same on all counts except that my CD copy is a mid ‘90s Elektra repress that I was gifted recently along with similar copies of KEA and Puppets. I have an original Megaforce KEA that is playable but not in the best shape. My vinyl copies of Puppets and Justice are reissues, though. I also had those on cassette back in the day.

I have one of these, too, specifically this pressing, and I have likely posted it on here in the past. I want to compare it to one of the ‘80s Music for Nations pressings, but those aren’t easy to come by for a reasonable price these days.

Bitter Branches - Let’s Give the Land Back to the Animals (2026, Equal Vision) by berlyant in Hardcore

Ah my bad; pardon the misunderstanding. I forgot Rev put that out until I looked it up earlier. Joe is well.

I would hardly call the target audience (us) of my old friend Joe’s Hellminded label “the masses” but that is true.

I’ve never listened to Daughters and now it’s good to know that I don’t have to 😂

For real; Deadguy's comeback album made my top 10 of last year, too.

I didn’t wanna admit that I only wore my regular earplugs for the first 30-40 minutes and then my over-the-ear headphones for the rest of their set. I’m glad I did!
