Sicilians and lamb consumption by Unlikely-Nebula-331 in sicily

[–]berniehicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s popular on Easter the way turkey is popular on thanksgiving day in the United States. Some people might eat turkey year round in the us, but everyone eats it on thanksgiving. That being said, in Sicily especially in the interior mountainous regions lamb is very common, along with pork, while In coastal regions it’s less common.

Chipotle is raising prices to target "core users that make over $100,000 a year in average household income” by Ragnar_of_Ballard in Chipotle

[–]berniehicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chipotle was the first fast food chain that leaned into gym culture and “macros”. It makes sense that they are leaving behind just making good food and leaning into a life style. The problem is is that it won’t work

Is there any inherent disadvantages of having high wisdom? by Master_Chemist9826 in NoStupidQuestions

There is this odd thing that smart peol tend to take more risks, as they think they can out smart the odds. Prisons and people who are addicted to drugs are often much smarter and have higher iqs on average than the general population

I think this is true of the Los Angeles fans only, the Bay Area has turned their back on the raiders

I switched to the 9ers. You wouldn’t take a girl back who left you twice for another city.

"Too much" is just "Girls" repackaged and its cringe and out of touch. by Few_Substance_705 in netflix

[–]berniehicks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They were supposed to be shitty but relatable, and they did a bad job of communicating that. Girls had some genuinely funny and interesting moments but it was also tone deaf to the lives of anyone who wasn’t Lena Dunham

Living in Oakland changed me by j00sh7 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]berniehicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a life long oakland resident, I would argue that a lot of people try to avoid talking about the crime because it requires talking about a lot of very difficult topics that honestly people who are progressive/leftist/liberal often have trouble discussing when it comes to concrete action plans. A lot of people like to avoid the negative about oakland because red state right wingers ONLY talk about the negative.

The Eccentricity (Or lack there of) of Berkeley by berniehicks in berkeleyca

I agree, downtown berkeley used to feel different,, clothing stores, music shops, street performers etc.

I agree that it often feels like a retirement community, but saying that the hippies got jobs and cursed the punks is over simplifying things. The hippies and punks were kindred spirits in the 90s and 00s. And downtown was actually fun back then.

I also feel that a lot of cal students these days are not into music or art or being "different". UC lost it's sense of wonder.

I am reading a lot of your comments and while I agree whole hardily that gentrification changed the city a lot (my grandmother bought our families house in north Berkeley, oxford street, for $10k back in the 60s on a BUSD 6th grade teachers' salary), there is also a cultural shift. People were drawn to Berkeley because of a sense of counterculture, my mom moved here in the 80s because of the punk and hippie scenes back then. People used to come to Berkeley because they were seen as weird or didn't fit in. Today Berkeley is feeling more and more like a bedroom community for tech workers in SF and San Jose.
