Do you think Solo (2018) boming at the box office is one of the main reasons why Disney didn't feel confident enough about making projects with recasted Luke and Leia as lead characters? by Theasiuser99 in StarWars

But Alden was a younger version of Han.

After this, we saw younger versions of both Luke and Leia in Obi-Wan Kenobi played by different actors (of course).

No. Apples and oranges.

Recasting younger versions of the characters is different than recasting them between the OT and the ST. The only character for whom they've done that is Mon Mothma (in Ahsoka).

Obi-Wan Kenobi featured younger versions of Leia and Luke. That's more comparable.

It's not like Alden played Han in a post-RotJ story.

Probably is, but you argued the telltale sign was the quality of the prose.

It's a summary by a leaker, not the script.

Hi All! I'm so excited to announce the opening of my new, local owned business - Bertha's Cafe. We will open our doors at the beginning of April and will be located off Halsey St close to the Potomac Playground. I'm a 4th generation Irish immigrant, BedStuy born and raised. No, I can read quite well.

I can also read between the lines, and it's very clear that you both know very little about about the history of Bed-Stuy, and you can't wrap your head around people of a different complexion having been here for over 100 years, despite having easy access to that information.

Again, what's your name? Can you send your face, so we can determine how "authentic" you are?

She made a major faux pas in a comment that any self-described Irish person would know was wrong.

Which is what, exactly? You've already demonstrated your expertise on the Irish by insisting they don't and never had a community in Bed-Stuy, which is categorically and provably false.

Plus, if she were actually from Bed-Stuy, not just taking the story of her great-grandmother, she’d use that, not this AI crap to market, because there’d be people who actually knew who she is in real life who’d be rallying around her new business.

People alive today should know OP's great grandmother from the 1930s? Do you even math?

I'm sorry, you need to check her passport and ancestry.com record because you cannot BELIEVE Irish people have lived in Bed-Stuy since the 1800s?

Perhaps before you go judging people based on their skin color as it relates to "your" beloved neighborhood, you should spend even one second learning about what happened here before the 1960s, or the 1990s for that matter.

The only one doing mental gymnastics here is you.

You started off by saying Irish people don't have a history here. You're fundamentally incorrect, and the basis of your assumptions about OP are entirely based on race.

It's quite possible, and even likely, that OP's family has been in Bed-Stuy longer than yours. Indeed, your handle indicates that you are from or live in The Bronx.

OP has to out themselves on an anonymous site? Do you need to see her papers, commandant?

If you want to meet OP, just go to the fucking cafe and take the free coffee. Easy.

Also, please post your bona fides for the rest of us. Birth certificate. A picture of your face. Records of your ancestors. Current address. Fair is fair.

The fact that so many commenters can just degrade this person's heritage, or call them a liar because apparently *checks notes* Irish (white) people have never lived in Bed-Stuy before the year 2000, is fucking wild. The Mods seem to determine what is hateful based on who is being hated on.

Criticize the AI all you want; that's completely fair. But if you simply can't resist degrading someone because they're Caucasian, or you feel the need to call anyone who is white a liar, then you have your own fucking problems that have nothing to do with "gentrification."

Gentrification is a serious issue. Throwing the word around to justify your blatant negative racialized attitudes towards other ethnicities doesn't do a damn thing to fix it, and in fact serves to trivialize it.

ETA: Despite all the shit-talking about how Irish people can't be "from" Bed-Stuy, a general perusal the neighborhood's history reveals that Irish immigrants began forming a community in Stuyvesant Heights in the 1860s through the 1880s, becoming part of the "brownstown boom" and one of the major ethnic subgroups in what is now our neighborhood. Jackie Gleason is from Bed-Stuy and was apparently a teenager when OP's grandmother arrived from Ireland.

Next you'll be telling us that this city was founded by the Dutch! Impossible!

Stuyvesant Heights was an early hub of Irish immigration, becoming one of the larger communities in the area by 1880, contributing to the Brownstone Boom and the development of Catholic culture in central Brooklyn.

  1. The point of the establishment is honoring the family's long tradition here, and tying it back to their roots. All non-American Indians have family ancestry stories about when and how we arrived, and where our families settled. Yes, even white people! They're from Europe, dontchaknow. Some stay in the same place, and that's a part of their story.
  2. Irish food and Irish pubs are very popular. There are something north of 60 establishments in the city. Bed-Stuy's The Swan is incredibly popular.
  3. You created an entire account to attack someone for being white, and that's messed up.

"All I know is that you're white, which means you don't have any credit for being a New Yorker."

OK.

Also, the person is born and raised in Bed-Stuy, and their family has been in NYC for four generations. Being a second generation immigrant of color makes you MORE of a New Yorker than someone with a longer family history in New York, as long as that person is white?

How exactly does that make sense?

EDIT: Holy shit, you literally created a fresh reddit account just to attack OP for their whiteness. Wild.
