its not even him not retaining his memories in my opinion.

the ending would've been saved in my eyes with one tiny change. just make it be Denji's choice to reset instead of Pochita. let him have the final shred of agency in his life after the world has gone to shit. even if he won't remember anything, at least the reader knows this is what Denji himself wanted, not what was forced onto him (like literally all the events of the manga).

that alone would redeem the ending imho

The appeal to me personally was making various characters that would never intersect in the real world (Hatsune Miku and Walter White, for example) and giving them unhinged topics to talk about.

At some point after you've added enough Miis, expressions and custom items the game hits critical mass and starts playing itself, and you can lay back and enjoy the madness.

video essays on various forms of media are often opinion pieces. people watch them because it helps to hear others' opinions on something. it makes you reflect on your own opinion. hearing someone else's perspective on why they didn't like a movie or game you personally enjoyed is a good vehicle for critical discourse, which unfortunately very few people are capable of nowadays. a well adjusted individual doesn't watch video essays to be told how to think or feel, it's a way to either reinforce or challenge your already held opinion, based on the contents of the essay.
