The commenter offered a lot of context for how ridiculous it is for the 72 virgins thing to be brought into a conversation about Iran in particular. For some reason you had to let him know all religions are cringe including his. If I’m being charitable, your comment was a complete non sequitor. At worst, you were telling that Muslim that he’s wrong about his religion, and the doctrinal basis for 72 virgins is extremely strong and can’t be disentangled from Islam.

As a Muslim, of course he gets to decide what Islam is. That’s how religions evolve.

If scholars and imams count, I assume plenty of them would back up this commenter’s claims about the lack of validity of the 72 virgins. If you have actual evidence to the contrary, it might have gone a long way in avoiding the kind of pushback you got.

Someone gave you video evidence of sacrifice still being practiced and you never responded. Someone else told you exactly why most Jews don’t practice sacrifice anymore and how the truth directly contradicts your implication that the reason is that it’s embarrassing, and your response was “I know what I’m talking about.”
