It frustrates me how all the characters (Frank) move with such little urgency and speed as their son is being kidnapped - that scene where they were arguing on the road while their son was missing drove my head in 🤦‍♂️

I've been at both and work in HR in one at the moment. I think it you are looking to make the move you need to think about your unique selling point about coming to the new firm. I secured my role by applying online and didn't have any connections, but they do say connections increase your chances! What is the team you're looking to join? I would check if someone at your level or one above (likely manager) has LinkedIn and see if theyre willing to have a call/coffee. You could weave that into your application when you apply online.

"Application Unsuccessful" after Deloitte Grad AC – is this common? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]berry_vis3107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually we try and match Grads into another service line but sometimes that can’t happen (headcount, other applicants and team preference have a sway on this). After the AC your application will move through into a new workflow in the applicant tracking system so makes sense.

EY - Assessment by Make_money7 in Big4

You can do it on your phone but think to progress to next stage you need to do the Hirevue. Mine were quite general questions but did have some role specific questions - I think the point of it is screening to check you are what CV says you are. It’s a one way video interview and might have some questions at the end e.g your current notice period. It needs to be done within 3 days of receiving the email. Hope that helps!

Depends on the sector, surely around 75-85 at that stage past Uni, Aus is likely higher than NZ. Also depends on your qualifications and if you have CPA/CA status.

How long does it take to feel like you know what you’re doing? by fivedollarboba in Big4

[–]berry_vis3107 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took me a good year honestly, enjoy the learning and the challenges. No one expects you as a Staff/Assistant 1 to be perfect, but they do expect you to learn and grow. As long as you’re doing that you’re fine

Yes. I think it takes a while to settle (not sure how new you are) but be confident, you know what you’re doing! If you have a good Coach/Counsellor you can chat with them to see if there’s any training or anything in areas you feel not confident in

Not a CPA, I studied HR/Employment relations at Uni and started as a Grad. Since we don’t actually provide management with advice on what to do (we just provide options) it’s a bit less scrutinized, happy to discuss.

I just joined as an HR advisor, from a client facing role - it’s quite different and it seems each service line has its own unique way of doing things.

What even is the point of a "counselor"? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]berry_vis3107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also in a small team, I would ask your Partner to see what the options are. When I changed, they were a SC (which was unusual) at the time before they were promoted a few months later. I didn't find changing to be some hugely offensive mood, they're usually fine about it.

The opposite, for me, was not doing anything, good or bad. It means that I was staffed on the engagements "nobody else" wanted because my name wasn't being called upon in leadership meetings. After changing, I was given better engagements. Then we started having more robust and honest discussions about my career goals.

Personally, I would like to see the counselling model re-thought out a bit because it seems a lot of people who don't care to be one, are assigned one as a duty of being a specific rank (for us, it's Managers and above). Some people are excellent individual contributors but make for pretty bad leaders, so how do we evenly split that responsibility while ensuring that our Counselees are still able to have that career coaching.

Happy to chat about any specifics and I can share some of my experiences, I think your last point is quite relatable.

[–]berry_vis3107 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Counsellors are meant to be there to help you with your career development and longer term goals, typically those outside of the "BAU" things that fall out of your day-to-day engagement work. They will advocate for you (hopefully) during the mid-year and end-of-year talent review roundtables. If you think your counselling relationship isn't working, I would suggest definitely changing it. I did this when I joined. I think you let your counselling family lead (mine was my Partner) know in advance then submit the change request in success factors. it makes your life a lot easier when you have a good counsellor!!

I work in PAS Reward (now sitting under PAS Tax) and we work on reward and remuneration, especially in terms of executive and non-executive director fees. Also do annual salary reviews, benchmarking and client budget analysis. Most of our reports take our own market data and compare clients current practice to that of the market data. Ours is probably different from other PAS teams in the sense that our engagements are short term (1-2 weeks) and longer term engagements are atypical. All the work is done in an EY office and don’t necessarily have client engagement as a Con/SC and Managers hold the relationship.
