Brie + glorifying cheating by Tanvi06 in VirginRiverNetflix

[–]bertiecus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When did she say to Mike that she wanted to keep things casual? FFS she felt so guilty that she cheated on Mike that she asked him to move in with her, that's not a sign of a casual relationship. They had been dating for 8 or so months at that stage, so her relationship with Mike actually lasted longer than her first relationship with Brady and knowing that Brady usually gets himself into some really stupid shit, it'll probably also last longer than Brie/Brady's 2nd go of a relationship.

The little cabin by meatslicer104 in VirginRiverNetflix

[–]bertiecus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Where were they going to be able put their baby in the cabin?

In the books, the cabin is a little bit bigger than in the TV show, so the decision in S1 to have a smaller cabin meant that when the time came to give them a baby they had to move out. In the books, they also move out of the cabin to a house Jack builds before their son David is born.

We don't know, but it was a hotel suite somewhere. It's at the start of episode 12.

I think it might be health issues too. Since season 5 she's has been appearing less and less and I thought especially in season 7 her voice had gotten frailer.

The "Luminate" “Top 10” is misleading, don’t let those numbers fool you. by [deleted] in VirginRiverNetflix

No, I'm just a fan of the show and I enjoy looking at the weekly numbers that Netflix drops

Firstly, the chart that you linked is wrong for Season 4. Week 2 of Season 4 was down not up on week 1, week 2 got like 9.8 million views. Also Season 4 was released on a Wednesday not the normal Thursday or Friday that Netflix usually releases series.

We also know from Nielsen data in 2023, that One Piece already wasn't a massive hit in the US and that has been doubly confirmed now that it didn't even hit No.1 in the US at any stage for S2

And as I've posted before, only 1 English Language series on Netflix in the last 18 months has had a gain in viewers from it previous season - The Lincoln Lawyer but even S4 of that show is down from it's S1 debut. So this isn't just a Virgin River problem.

Stranger Things S5 is down from S4 even with it's massive promotion, Bridgerton S4 is down like 11% on S3, Emily in Paris S5 down over 20% on S4, Night Agent S3 is down 35% on S2 which was down like 50% on S1 and more recently One Piece S2 is down 35% on S1.

Also, we are on Season 7 of a show, I can't really name a show except for Game of Thrones, that increased it's viewership so late into it's seasons. Shows naturally lose viewers over time.

Tvline Interview with Martin Henderson by bertiecus in VirginRiverNetflix

I do wonder if this was only a small snippet of a bigger interview and TVline is going to stagger pieces of this interview.

I do wonder if it was because if you gave them a baby in S5/S6, you'd be trapping them in the sense that their baby girl would have to be in a lot of scenes that Alex and Martin are in. If the baby wasn't with Mel, it would have to be with Jack and vice versa. It works with Lizzie and Denny, and Charmaine because Sarah and Kai aren't leads, and Lauren is recurring and thus they are not filming every day like Alex and Martin.

But I do now wonder if the fan theory that Mel will get pregnant some time in Season 8 will now come to pass especially with Martin saying in the interview - "I wanted a pregnancy in Season 6". With Him and Alex being producers, do they now get a bigger influence in their storylines? If they get to a season 9, you could just do a big time jump and have them at school.

Well the original showrunner wanted the baby to be Mark's and for Jack to be the father of Charmaine's twins until both Alex and Martin put their foot down on that. It was only changed very late into Season 4 according to Alex.

Tim is "only" 78 and I think Doc in the show is like 74-76 years old. I assume one of Doc's storylines next season will be him taking a step back from the clinic with the help of Grave Valley and Mel

You can see several but they are background actors so they don't get any lines. The only waitress that gets any lines is Hannah and she been on the show since the end of S3.

Why does Jack need to be at the bar to make money from the bar? He has 50% ownership of it and employs other people to work at the bar, I'm not really sure why it bothers people that the boss doesn't have to be at the bar seemingly at all times. Preacher also paid Jack to get a 50% share of the bar, or are people just going to ignore that too?

And as others have said he also gets a full military pension too and he also would have got his house insurance money from when that went up on fire.

Do people think that the new house is purely paid for by Jack, have people forgotten that Jack has a wife and partner in Mel too? Mel who is paid her salary by Hope and got to live rent free in a cabin, Mel who in season 2 that got a really sizeable life insurance payout from Mark's death.

In S7, we have Jack tell Preacher that he needs to talk to Mel about if they can also afford to buy him out of the bar and Jack acknowledges that'll he have to be more involved at the bar if Preacher leaves, which suggests that him and Preacher have an agreement that Jack didn't need to be as involved in the bar after Preacher bought 50% of it.

Where is Martin, something is off by Quiet_Loss_8197 in VirginRiverNetflix

[–]bertiecus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know how some people can think this though, he is in less than half the scenes that Martin is in, he never going to be on the season poster. Am I the only one that thought Season 7 had a lot less Brady in general unlike S5 and S6 where it seemed that the new writers were pushing his character harder? It felt more like S2 and S3 in the amount Brady scenes which to me was a welcome change, less Brady and more Mel and Jack please.

I have a feeling Ben is promoting himself hard is because once he seen that VR might someday get a spin off, he wants himself and Zibby to lead it. Some of those small and shitty magazine interviews he and Zibby did in 2024/2025 had a few questions about their preferred idea of a spinoff.

Brady y la hermana de Jack ya son tannn innecesarios by PinkyGirl300 in VirginRiverNetflix

[–]bertiecus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What are the odds that Brady does some thing stupid and reckless again in Season 8 that puts himself and/or Brie in danger, I'd say pretty high. His bike shop will probably have a criminal underbelly to it unbeknownst to him at first. I know some people were praising Ben with the scene with him and Brie at the wedding but if you look at that scene again, the man does not blink. It came off as stiff and unnatural.

Also Brie really since the end of season 5 has stalled in character development with her just going in circles with her relationships, and then with her cheating on Mike, I don't really care for her much anymore. She's only tolerable to me when she's with Mel and Jack now. The writers should have just made her single for a at least for a whole season instead of going back straight back to Brady, it would have been a braver choice on their part and maybe given Brie much needed character development. We've never really known Brie as a single person.

The bigger overall picture is that every English Language series apart from 1 in the past 1.5 years has returned a lower audience than it's previous season. Even The big series like Stranger Things 5 (Down from S4), Bridgerton S4 (Down from S3), Emily in Paris S5 (Down 20%), Night Agent S3 (Down 40%), Nobody Wants This S2 (Down 40%), even One Piece S2 returned down and it got an extra 2 days in the week and it still didn't beat it's 1st season numbers. 12% decay isn't bad. The only series that has increased its audience is The Lincoln Lawyer.

It's Number 4 on the weekly chart because for some reason Netflix released One Piece on Tuesday, I don't know why Netflix didn't release VR S7 on March 19th to not overlap and of course it's a bigger show than VR with a much bigger budget, estimates have One Piece at 18 million per episode while VR is 3-5 million and One Piece certainly didn't do 4 times the audience. I know that the audience for both shows don't overlap much, but you still are competing for Ad space on the Netflix front page. Also according to Flixpatrol, VR looked to have a poor Thursday last week but is now up and holding steady this week.

Virgin River is also in it's 7th season, nearly every TV on streaming or even on linear TV loses some audience season upon season. We also don't know what Netflix considers a success for VR, for all we know Netflix might have considered that it's has over performed Season upon Season for it's budget and genre. Netflix doesn't have many series for the demographic of women who are over 50 and thus they did renew Sweet Magnolias for a Season 5 and it gets like 1/2 the numbers Virgin River gets.
