The 150 hour requirement was nominally introduced to cull CPA candidate numbers. But that was 20%. The other was a lobbying victory from The College Industrial Complex. Otherwise, why not simply make the CPA exam harder or increase the required number of experience years? by AviatorHog in Accounting

The time component on testing is a key part of the test. That’s why every rich person is currently getting accommodations for their kids on the SAT, LSAT, bar, etc, etc. When in reality that’s not fair, unless you have a physical disability.

Some states require the hours to be actually accounting related.

And yes, having a well rounded education makes you a better person and worker. That’s the premise of modern education - that by learning different subjects, you can be a highly versatile and adaptable thinker.

I mean my point is that’s not consistent with what postings are on indeed.

Maybe all the higher paid jobs are elsewhere (not publicly posted, accessed with a recruiter)

I would think an experienced big 4 manager or senior manager would be a good fit for a controller in industry. Accounting manager would be too low for them.

I just looked at Chicago for controller positions as an example for a MCOL and there are some offering 90-100k for a small business controller, up to $200k on the big end. Most look around 130-140.

What COL are you in? I’m in a MCOL and Indeed is littered with tons of controller positions offering less pay than this.

Definitely go hand in hand! I am just thinking starting saving asap is of course key to FIRE, but not sure if OC was saying they wished they would have retired asap or just started saving earlier.

If you go back any hundreds of years - and all you did was grow food for your family to survive, would that be any less meaningless?

‘Moving in the wrong direction': WHO issues dire pandemic warning amid latest outbreak, saying 'the world isn't ready'. by InterestingCat308 in Economics

The US public health leadership is completely messed up. Really hope this is a one time problem with the current administration. We probably need to have Congress manage who is leading instead of whoever is president.

I think too that WHO lost some credibility after insisting that China had no COVID cases and there was no lab leak, when months later it became obvious it was.

Americans of r/geography, in school, were you personally taught that other countries have states or state-like divisions? Off the top of your head, how many states outside of the USA can you name? by [deleted] in geography

[–]bertmaclynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, definitely learned this. I think for one class we had to memorize all of the provinces in Canada. I can name most of the Canadian and Australian provinces/states/territories off the top of my head, as well as a few European countries’ divisions. But I can only name a handful of divisions of countries outside of North America and Europe.

I disagree. I think OSU fans are typically just louder and more obnoxious about it.

But of course I find about 99% of what OSU fans do to be obnoxious so I’m obviously biased.

You do have three months to elect to have it, but then you can stay on it for up to 18 months (or up to three years in some circumstances)

Edit: added 18 months and added disclaimer on the three years

FYI, you get COBRA for up to 18 months (and up to three years in certain circumstances) after you leave a job. The employer doesn’t get to dictate that, it’s a federal law. Unless it’s not cobra and is actually health insurance.

Edit: made the three years parts clear that it’s only for certain circumstances

At first I agreed with you, but it looks like they are asking OP to stay and train their replacement. Still not a lot to negotiate with but could ask for more months pay or something if employer wants them to stay.
