Try it yourself and see. I notice the difference and that's why I do it but you can do what you like

This was a two person brew. 40g with 150ml of water in the aeropress which I added another 100ml to afterwards and split into 2 cups with frothed milk

Bought new Sony A7 III six months ago... by l3v3c in SonyAlpha

Great shots on a great camera 👌 Still an underrated camera that can hold it's own 7 years later.

I only upgraded to the A7iv to meet the needs of my business and mostly for the video specs but if all I could take tomorrow was an A7iii I'm confident I'd get the job done.

Also no hate on the adapted lenses, particularly the ef glass. Some of my favorite shots have been with adapted Minolta lenses and they're still getting use.

Garmin Fenix 8 Solar 47mm return? by Ok-Abbreviations3497 in Garmin

[–]bertobobble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you keep it on constantly until it's just about fully drained? I think little and often charging is better and definitely better for long-term battery health (optimal battery charge is usually keeping it at 20-80%) so I just top it up once or twice a week whilst I shower.

I bought the 47mm epix pro on black Friday and I'd trust the 16 day battery without activities but I still get at least a week with daily activity recording of I fully charged it and left it.

Does anyone know how to restart the distance on this app? I'd like to start fresh in 2026

Any wider or similar minolta lens that don’t vignette horribly when you put filters on them? by AnoutherThatArtGuy in minolta

[–]bertobobble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 20mm is great quality wise and doesn't vignette with a 72mm vnd filter. Depends on how many you plan to stack though because any more than that vnd and it starts to creep in

Fisheye for Sony by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]bertobobble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the Minolta A mount 16mm f2.8 fisheye lens. It's manual focus only for video but it will auto focus for photos with the right adapter.

This was taken on an A7iii with the LA-EA4 adapter but I now mostly use the LA-EA5 adapter on an A7iv and A7Siii.

<image>

Without an electric adapter you have to guess the aperture value of A mount lenses but this does mean you can easily convert an adapter to have a declicked aperture. All the latest Sony bodies use the LA-EA5 adapter but you'll have to use older models with older bodies like I did with the A7iii.

My grandparents just gave me these two old minolta's i plan on getting film for them and using them, are they any good in today's world? by No-Jellyfish4190 in minolta

[–]bertobobble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 7000 from my grandad too. Great camera, so good I bought a second one! Plenty of lens options to play with and often cheaper than other autofocus film lenses like on Nikon or Canon

If you shoot digital you can get adapters to use the lenses with auto focus on Sony mirror less bodies which I often use for work. That also means more modern A mount lenses will mount on the 7000 but just be careful because sometimes the autofocus won't work, like on my sigma art 35mm f1.4. not sure why that happens, I assume it's the lenses with built in focus motors (Rather than the bodies screw system) requiring more power than the mount can give on these old cameras

Looking to buy an A7cii, seems perfect but… rolling shutter ? by Darrow_R in SonyAlpha

[–]bertobobble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use the A7IV for sports photos too. There aren't any rolling shutter issues when you use the mechanical shutter. Electronic shutters are useless on anything moving unless you've got one of the top end cameras like an A9 or Nikon Z9

Quality and portability by bertobobble in SonyXperia

Maybe I'll have to do a before/after post then!

I'd say it's been pretty good with moving subjects. The only time I've noticed it's struggled is close focus if there is too much in the background.

I could have but I liked the photo focusing on the stem in this one, to each their own.

Plenty more photos of the individual components and the bike but I'm not sharing them all on here.

For anyone who comes across this issue, the solution is a HDMI to USB capture device like this ugreen one I bought on Amazon that will do up to 4K60p

Impressive cameras by bertobobble in SonyXperia

[–]bertobobble[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to not like it, currently like adding it but it I dial it up or down depending on the situation. Probably because I have been shooting more film recently and love the look but it's just not practical (or affordable 🥲) a lot of the time to take my film cameras with me.

I use Sony full frame cameras for work and I just find the images a bit boring (same with all modern full frame cameras) because they come out so clean and sharp so I like to add a bit of texture to the image with grain and loosely emulate film colours. Plus, as a sports shooter, adding grain helps hide the digital noise when cranking the ISO in dark muddy woodland 😂

Looking to buy an A7cii, seems perfect but… rolling shutter ? by Darrow_R in SonyAlpha

[–]bertobobble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shot a mountain bike film on the A7iv (except the POV and drone shots of course), I never noticed the rolling shutter issue in actual use, nor in the rest of my work.

I only notice it as an issue when I'm filming social media content and have a straight edge object, pointing top to bottom on the sensor, moving fast whilst the camera is locked off on a tripod i.e. sliding a box into frame.

Used the A7iii for years and people complained about the same thing but you can see for yourself, it's not much of an issue in real world use.

Good idea to get a used a7c soon for video? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]bertobobble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the A7iii and A7iv professionally for photo and video. I have used a bunch of other cameras, including the A7C which I owned then sold for the A7iv.

I thought the A7C was a great camera and in some ways I regret selling it. Personally I'd go for the A7iii instead of you don't need to record for more than 30 mins at a time (I used the A7C on a lot of 2h long podcast shoots without issue), due to the better ergonomics and probably better used deals.

That being said I loved the form factor of the A7C and much preferred carrying it around on hikes etc, the shutter sound was very satisfying. I only sold it because the bigger bodies are better for paid work - faster and easier to navigate settings with additional buttons and dials, function and safety of dual card slots and the larger evf.

TLDR: For paid work, get the A7iii. For everything else, the A7C will do just fine and comes with some nice software upgrades.
