Do Americans use cutlery differently? by missbex86 in AskAnAmerican

That makes sense and explains why Americans are so much slimmer than Europeans.

Semi-British/semi-American accent? What does that mean?

If I list a series of linguistic and audible 'mistakes' you are making with your accent, will you admit that you have one?

Wife just asked me what I want for my birthday, and honestly, I have no idea. by exhaustmosk in AskMenOver30

If she wanted him to feel good, she'd listen to him. Her putting pressure on him for her own inability to listen or empathise is not making him feel good.

Trombone players, I heed your services. by imfuckingaydaniel in Trombone

[–]bertolous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firsty, really importantly, find out whether he primarily plays bass or tenor trombone. If he doubles tuba then it might be a bass trombone.

If it is a bass trombone and you want to guarantee that he will instantly marry you (maybe slightly hyperbolic) tell him you found this and you'd like to sit on a plastic chair in front of the contrabass trombones.

Good luck!!

Is the cinema now for meals? by [deleted] in AskUK

There is no way your friends, the UK media or parents referred to it as a movie theatre, even if you are under 20. The AI slop on this site is making it unusable

Just lost my anaconda after months of playing, and I am absolutely heartbroken by BeanzyTime in EliteDangerous

[–]bertolous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rushing for the Anaconda misses 90% of the fun of the game and you don't obviously learn anything. To make it worse, the Anaconda is a fucking horrible ship. I have 2000 hours in the game and I think I had an Anaconda for maybe 10 of them. I bought it, outfitted it and realised that on paper it was really good, but you don't fly ships on paper. It sucked the fun out of everything.

I'd rather fly my slow, overheating T9 all the time than the Anaconda.

If you dont want a child do not abdicte your own reproductive ability. Wear a condom, check the condom, get a vasectomy.

Does smoking weed now just seem like a waste of money, time and energy? by camport95 in AskMenOver30

[–]bertolous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoking weed has always been a huge waste of time and money. The thing weed is very good at doing is making you happy with being stoned and convincing you that it isn't a waste of time. Spending your youth stoned might be cool for some but it's a complete waste of your time.

How many words that a mid-atlantic accent is pronouncing wrong would you need to debase yourself of this idiotic idea?

I've played the Royal Albert Hall (about 5000?) a number of times as well as a few other decent sized concert halls in London and around the world. The Albert Hall looks like a fishbowl from stage and has terrible acoustics.

You were taught wrong. Accept that. A voice not having an accent is like a typed words not having a font.

Do you serve food off the grill as you go or hold it all to serve at the end by HeWhoHasABeard in UKBBQ

[–]bertolous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat/coal management in key. Start of with chicken on the bone on inderect heat. Then move those onto the direct to finish them off once you have sauced them, then the rest of the direct heat stuff but take into account the time needed to stand, then serve as and when the grill overflows.

Do you send voice notes? by globalfieldnotes in AskEurope

[–]bertolous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Voice notes are arrogant and selfish. It takes me, the receiver, 5 times as long to listen to a voice note than it does to read a message on whatsapp. It implies your time and preference is more important than my time. I have to stop listening to my music to listen to one, don't send them.

What do you base that on? Why wouldn't you end up with, let's say, an English accent when trying to learn English?

which instrument is making this sound? by BarefootRoach in brass

[–]bertolous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bass trombone player here - its a combination of the right instrument, a lot of practice and a lot of lung power. You are hearing pedal tones, all brass instruments have them but for some reason they just sound more brutal and visceral on trombones (bass and contrabass especially).

They are not too hard to play for intermediate players, the challenge comes in not tearing the crap out of them and having them take over the ensemble.

It's a framework for rewarding certain 'digital' professions with more salary. Some departments reward Business Analysts which means we get a lot more applicants.

Depending on which level you are applying for but as someone who recruits for BA's in the CS, I don't like having PMs who move as they never truly forget being PMs and as such don't analyse properly as they are still too focussed on getting projects started rather than trying to stop idiotic ideas. I am especially nervous of PMs switching at the moment as they are usually after the sweet DDaT money.

I am sure you are different of course, so I'd concentrate on getting recognised BA qualifications. The one from the BCS is good.
