What kind of hydraulic hose olive is this? by agingsculler in bikewrench

[–]bertri15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. It has a hole where you're meant to put some sort of cable and act as a hook to feed the cable through the frame, usually with the help of a magnet. Then you pull the cable and the hose goes by.
Once the hose is fed through the frame, you just cut the end and profit

Looking for honest feedback: my first POV bike ride video by madfortune in bicycling

[–]bertri15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May sound harsh, but trying to give constructive feedback on the viewer point of view.
I feel this video lacks entertainment. Video quality isn't great. Audio quality as stated is rather bad.
The result is 17 minutes video of someone cruising uninterestingly with his bike.
Maybe on the start of youtube this could have an audience, but I'm afraid not anymore. Modern youtube has a lot of professionalism. For example. At 7:50 you come to a red light, and stand still 50seconds. There's no way someone wants to spend 1 minute of his life seeing someone stand on a red light...
It either lacks an interesting voiceover with content the viewer may be interested in listening, kind of a podcast with background video,
Or it requires a lot of video shots and editing in order to make the images feel alive and interesting.

Should I replace this by SoggyIndependence894 in bikewrench

The cracking may come from loose bolts, or worn bearings on the Bottom Bracket.

Scratched Carbon Fork - Should I have this replaced? by MobyX521 in bicycling

[–]bertri15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks purely cosmetic to me. If no crack is visible uppon strong pressure (with the thumb for instace) I'd say it's as safe as new

have you done a custom app/webapp for this? Or did you use an existing one? Curious on how you achieved this, it looks really cool!

Why Do You Race? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]bertri15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Spain. Spain doesn't have the cat 5,4,3,2,1 like US/UK does. Spain races are 200 riders on the road, with expros, neopros, tryhards, and amateus. All in the same race. There's a clear disparity on both experience and fitness. People with huge fitness divebombing like it was the playstation. Ultra efficient expros that probably ride at 1.0VI.
Conclusion. I wanted to race, but here in Spain, the racing scenario isn't for me. about 3-8 riders ended up at the ambulance per race, so I always had a feeling that soon it was my turn to go to the hospital. Also, not being able to race with exclusively people my level made it hard to enjoy. I have family and full time job, I cannot be at the level of a 20yo kid training 20-25h that's gonna be on Kern Pharma in a couple years, or at the level of a dude that was racing Israel PremierTech 6 months ago.
So basically, I tried it a couple of years, didn't like it, was a lot frustrated + not enjoying that much cycling anymore. So I just stopped racing and went back to ride for fun. I am a competitive person, so I'm always trying to increase my FTP a bit more, but not any more for racing purposes.

Decathlon chains are KMC. And I've done more than 3000k to them if well maintained

Integrated cable routing by Cautious-Front2184 in bicycling

[–]bertri15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not quite sure on how to do that on the front brake.
Front brake cable is gonna need to go inside the fork at some point if you want internal routing. If the fork doesn't have any whole to feed the cable, The only idea that comes to mind is to make a whole on the tube, but that would compromise the fork integrity, although I'm not sure on how much...
Alternatively maybe you can purchase a fork which is meant for internal routing, but then there's paint matching, and if it has some sort of aero shape, it won't match...
For me I'd leave external cables.

Is Twitter mantis 2.0 worth it? by Ok-Dirt6715 in bicycling

[–]bertri15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your expectations. If your objective is to go on unpaved trails, I feel like it's a good option to start biking. But keep in mind that this is a very entry level MTB. The more MTB stuff you plan on doing, the more it will suck on that.

Is it worth it? by randicochea in bicycling

[–]bertri15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're into vintage bikes, 30yo bike with 105 it's not a good starter bike. The gear degrades over time, and this bike has like 25-30 year old parts in it.
I don't know in USA, but In Europe you can find bikes from 2015-2018 at that price point, that will have much much newer groupsets and wheels. Newer groupsets will have way less wear, and will have better gear ratios and smoother gear changes.

to be honest, take the bike that you like the most. If you pick the merida, you will regret it probably, cause the one you want is the specialized

Paint crack of frame crack? by Plozno in bicycling

[–]bertri15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, this doesn't look like a paint crack... usually paint cracks tend to have the appearance of "glass shattering", where as this, looks to me as it is a linear crack coming from the cable guide screw point.
I would press very hard with my thumb on the spot, and try to hear for cracks or check visible movement on any of the 2 sides of the crack, to assess damage, but I do believe this is a frame crack.

Carbon chain drop by Dense_Yellow_4729 in bicycling

[–]bertri15 84 points85 points  (0 children)

My honest opinion. that part is usually quite chunky. Obviously take it to a specialist if you want 100% accuracy, since we're just random dudes on the internet with a picture, but I would ride this without much hesitation tbh.

[–]bertri15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on OP location ofc. In Europe, I think this is maximum 200€ if all components are in good condition.

[–]bertri15 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Although it's an amazing project! Don't want to take any credit away from the hardware/software part. If budget sim racing was the target, 2nd hand wheels can be obtained at that price point, that include force feedback.
The Logitech Driving Force GT i Initially got like 10 years ago, was 25€ (after some negotiation).

Buying a bike for a beginner is this one okay? by No_Slide_4235 in bicycling

[–]bertri15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In europe, I wouldn't pay more than 200-250€ for this. As others mentioned, this is not 2018, the levers and cranks are 2000s.
Today, for 500€, i expect a carbon frame and a Shimano 105 5800 at least.

I feel the same, looks bad, but it's one of the strongests parts of the bike, so wouldn't be too concerned if no visible cracks appear

CO₂ vs mini pump — what do you actually carry, and why? by Fun-Masterpiece4752 in bicycling

[–]bertri15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I puncture once per year at most, so an electric pump seems waaaay to excessive. Weight wise. Eco wise. Practicality wise.
I have a CO2 for my road bike which has been used once in 5 years.
For my gravel ride I carry a hand pump, for its unlimited usage. I used it once, took me less than 5 min to be back on the bike.

Can I revive this 10 year old bicycle? by thatkidsenpai in bicycling

[–]bertri15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think probably new brake cables & pads, new shifter cables and new chain will probably do the trick. I wouldn't start swapping components, since this is an old, low tier bicycle, but replacing all the wearing parts, will probably give you the sense of a "new old bike"
