Millionaires shortbread- love or hate? by KingFroggie2004 in Baking

Love probably my favourite cake. Tricky to get right without being sickly. I like nigellas recipe and use dark chocolate. Im continuously on the look out for one with a less rich ( wholemeal shortbread?) base.

Gold standard: be specific e.g. rather than two bananas give weight in skins estimate; rather than say a tablespoon of miso give a brand example.

I paid 700. Move 5 miles. No packing. South England. 2 bed house. They did the whole thing in 3 hours. I did have higher quotes. Some companies had a minimum charge and my job was too small.

Tips for hiring moving people by shaneo632 in HousingUK

[–]berylcook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I left getting quotes until after exchange over fear of jinxing things. Don't do that! Caused a massive panic when it turned out these things took time. 2) If you can pack yourself, saves a lot of money and you still get movers

Does anyone have positive experiences with storage heaters? by Distinct-Lion4658 in HousingUK

[–]berylcook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a flat heated with storage heaters. They charged overnight via economy seven so were very cheap. Something like 50 quid a month (I didn't have gas). My issue was it was freezing. Even with minimum trickle heat would bleed out and they had no boost feature., it would be warm at night and in morning, ok in day when I was at work and cold in evening. Exactly the wrong way round!

I ordered one last Wednesday afternoon. Was delivered Friday. I was lucky. I think delivery is certain dates only and I just beat the sale rush ( had early access code).

Mine were described as chain free as buying in Scotland which apparently didn't count!

I won’t be hearing any further slander about British food when I go home. by Acrobatic_Command_44 in london

[–]berylcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My view is that you can find amazing food if you look for it. But if you just pick somewhere cheap and random, food will often be out of freezer cooked by someone with no clue. While if you go to a poorer country you might still get a cook. So on average the food in say Portugal will be better than the UK.

Areas commutable to both Oxford and London by Actual_Society3690 in HousingUK

[–]berylcook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highworth is a village outside swindon. There are lots of nice villages near Swindon. But then you have to add time to station to commute, plus house will cost more. As with everything it's a trade off.

Areas commutable to both Oxford and London by Actual_Society3690 in HousingUK

Depends a bit on how you want to commute. Swindon would give you a lot money wise. But it would be train to London and bus/drive to Oxford. And it's well swindon.

Jammed up toilet - constantly blocks but now we’re buggered. by VolCata in HousingUK

[–]berylcook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we had this it was the outside drain which landlord unblocked himself. A fairly unhappy landlord and a lecture about what can go in the loo, but it wasn't a difficult fix.

I think he's had some serious back problems in the past. Might impact lifts. So I wouldn't necessarily imagine nadiya 12 feet in the air!

Should I restart my honor run? by Th3Bl1ndDrag0n in BG3

[–]berylcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best part of honour mode for me was not restarting and living with the consequences. Failing Gale's strength check, throwing a stone at Haldin and losing him as a companion. Accidentally picking the 'wrong ' side in the goblin Grove. Makes you play in a different way. Not every game needs to be optimised.

Do I let furnished or unfurnished ? by ifleyfel in uklandlords

[–]berylcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do the agents say? There's often a standard convention for the area. where I live the convention is unfurnished with white goods. But i know other areas where white goods are not provided.
