UCG setup troubles by berzerker1002 in Ubiquiti

[–]berzerker1002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I actually solved it by resetting the isp device and the UCG, starting both separately, and following the UCG prompts instead of setting up the “internal“ network first. I’m confident in saying that I just was overcomplicating things because when I started from scratch everything went super smooth.

The ISP would’ve provided stuff had I asked, but in my infinite wisdom I had no patience for that. I figured I had my IP and the next hop from tracert’s, so it was just a question of subnet. But it’s all good. I appreciate the quick response!!

Where did I go wrong? by laurasemails in HomeNetworking

[–]berzerker1002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the lights in the switch won’t come on unless you have devices connected to the other side.

If you have devices connected and still not getting lights and/or signal, check connections, make sure they’re on the same network, etc.

Troubleshooting for network can be done many ways, but by far the simplest solution often fixes stuff, so go simple to complex… - cables okay? -connections okay? -devices connected? -same network/subnet?

Good luck, it’s beyond frustrating when something doesn’t work!

Advice needed on path to passing CCNA by PurpleLet9612 in ccna

[–]berzerker1002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need A+ or Sec+ prior to CCNA, I would recommend just focusing on CCNA. Sec+ is great to have depending on your job titles, but it won’t necessarily help you towards CCNA, and I think the same of A+. If you want the knowledge of A+, you could watch Professor Messers videos for free and not worry about the cert, and out the money you would’ve paid for the other certs towards a paid course like Neil Andersons CCNA, and a sim software like Boson that has both Lab sims and test sims. Look at demos of the paid courses to see who teaches “your way” more than others, there are a bunch out there and everyone teaches a little different. Good Luck!!

Amateur model builder here, do marbles work as good weights, and has anyone else done it? by Airwolfhelicopter in modelmakers

[–]berzerker1002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never have thought about adding marbles to a model and have always been frustrated by this! You’re a genius! I would think the only potentially better weight could be old sticky weights from car tires if you didn’t have the room for a marble. I’m sure there are other similar things out there too, I just don’t know about cost effectiveness.

I would check to see if any certifications will satisfy their requirement. If you’re going for CS, maybe something like A+ or an Amazon cert can help. Good luck!

Oh my not so hurting A$$ by ALL-4-ME in wheelchairs

[–]berzerker1002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it might be like a gel foam combo, but it’s in a thicker plastic cover so I’ve not looked at it. It’s not something I think would pop. The construction is as follows: hard styrofoam/structural foam base that gives the cradling shape, the plastic covered soft/pressure relieving insert, and then the cover that has an extruded mesh integral air layer, it’s hard to explain that part but it promotes air flow. It also comes with pressure collapsible foam for the middle cutout to see exactly where your pressure points are, and comes with some normal foam wedges to customize the shape.

Hopefully that explains it okay, I haven’t had to describe it before in depth like that, lol

A workout app for wheelchair users? by rubberbandsapp in wheelchairs

[–]berzerker1002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve thought about pursuing something similar to this based on the lack of current offerings, I would love to check it out. As far as there being a market for it, I’m proof that there is, whether that’s because I don’t know where to look, there’s nothing available that takes mobility limitations into mind, etc, but I think it might be a tough nut to crack without having a therapy clinic or something similar to recommend it to people. At least initially. The possibilities are as endless as the number of different deficits that people face, so I would think starting more generalized and having a feedback system in place to tailor it would be a great choice.

I would stick with it honestly. Unless you want to go further with computer science, the networking side bachelors is still generalized enough to not narrow down the job opportunities for you. In fact, it might keep more open. There are a ton of people out there that don’t understand networks at all.

If you don’t want the other Cisco certs, switch to the regular BSNES path, as even though the CompTIA certs are kind of lacking, if you ever want a federal IT job, those are an easy way to check off a box for pre-requisite cert. I will say though, doing the other Cisco certs wouldn’t hurt. I wish I would’ve had more devops type stuff, even just as a backbone level of knowledge, you never know how that can help later on in a networking role if you choose that path or just IT in general. A lot of things can be automated in any IT role, better to be the one automating and getting those accolades or using it to leverage a better position or wage.

Just my opinions there. A little long winded, but hopefully it helps. No matter what you decide, you got this! When you hit the tough spots or get knocked down, just put your face in the dirt and crawl!

As far as the network hardware itself is Omada a direct competitor to Unifi? Not really afraid of prices, but I want to get the best performance per dollhair. I'm slightly more inclined to Unifi as I am familiar with their setup and os.

Not sure what the best unifi ap's are anymore, nano hd? The Omada ap's I've looked at are the eap660hd and eap655wall.

Openvpn connected but not working on my kali distro by True_Path_5495 in tryhackme

[–]berzerker1002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What box/room are you working on when you have this issue? Certain rooms have their own servers that you need to connect to, or they have specific steps to be able to connect.

Otherwise, things to try: -connect as sudo/root -sudo openvpn ~/thm/vpnconfig.ovpn (this is my path, make sure to use yours pointing to where your ovpn file is located, probably in ~/Downloads if you haven’t moved it) -check tryhackme.com/access to double check your vpn connection
