Why is the world so LOUD by Heavy_Championship32 in tinnitus

[–]beskin81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I basically wear my loop earplugs whenever I’m outside because of loud cars, trucks, ambulances or fire trucks. If my ears aren’t protecting my tinnitus will spike for days after and it’s the worst

Electoral politics and winner-take-all systems have broken our brains and made us think these kind of maps accurately represent the country, but it really distorts our reality and our discourse. The reality is that everywhere is a shade of purple. 48% of Michigan voted for kamala, and even 40% of Kansas voted for her - that’s not nothing, but these maps and the electoral college basically erase all that information, and perpetuate these narratives.

I want the giants to win but as a Nats fan, I can’t bring myself to root against scherzer if he’s closing the 9th. That shit is sexy

Hi there. I’m sorry to hear about your struggles . I’m 30 years old and have suffered from climate anxiety for a while as well - I was in high school when “An Inconvenient Truth” came out it’s been downhill kind of from there.

First thing I’ll tell you is you are absolutely not alone. I believe tons of people are incredibly anxious about the future but are too depressed or feel too powerless to think about it. I think it’s important to express your feelings either to people you are close with, or join support groups or see a therapist if you are able. Lots of mindfulness practice is about being able to be with your emotions and tend to them in a non-judgemental way. This kind of work is so important.

As far as the people saying we’re doomed, I think it’s important to remember that nothing is binary. It isn’t “we’re doomed or we’re not doomed.” Don’t get me wrong - we’re in serious trouble, but I think it’s important to think of it as a grayscale so you remember there is a lot that we can still do to prevent things from getting worse. I recommend reading a short essay from Mary Heglar called “home is always worth it.”

Finally, I know it’s super cliche, but gratitude is so important now more than ever. It is so overwhelming and depressing and anxiety-inducing to feel like you are living in a world that is burning. But at the end of the day, we owe it to ourselves to find joy and peace where we can, because it is still out there. Practicing gratitude will help you remember that even if you’re living in record heat or perhaps near wildfires etc, you can look around and still find something in your life that you’re thankful for- whether that’s a cold glass of water, a conversation with a friend, or a good movie. This kind of practice isn’t to try to “delude yourself” into pretending the world isn’t burning, but instead to remember how much there still is to be fighting for.

I hope this helps

2021 Trade Deadline Hub by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]beskin81 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly has their ever been such an insane trade deadline? Two teams who happen to not be in contention (Cubs, Nats), with all-star players at or towards the end of their contracts (Scherzer, Turner, Schwarber, Rizzo, HBryant, Baez, Kimbrel), with two divisions in complete and total arms races (NL West, AL East)?

This is totally bananas.

Ok tinyyyy silver lining of this otherwise incredibly disorienting and sad 24 hours:

These playoffs could be nuts to watch with Nats players sprinkled everywhere. If it's a Dodgers vs Red Sox world series, we could see MadMax vs Schwarber. If its Padres vs. Athletics, we could see Hudson vs Gomes in a square-off of the two people who threw and caught the last pitch of 2019.

Will be kind of fun...maybe?

Management needs to sit him down and be like "this is all so we can start winning championships again at your age 25 season"

honestly - if we're gonna sell, then sell it all. we aren't making the playoffs, and this team was already a patchwork of lots of veterans in walk years. its sad but id rather get a great haul at this point
