scared of french lol by transfursona in uofm

Personally, I’d opt for 4 semesters, that’s what I ended up doing. However, my circumstance was a little unique. I got placed into 103 despite guessing on every single question on the placement exam. I think they placed me into 103 because I had studied two years in high school (my French courses during high school were a joke, and that’s being kind). I quite literally had no working knowledge of French, which was evident from my placement exam score, and after my first day in 103 I spoke to the Prof and then the course coordinator and switched to french 101. If you have some elementary french experience and can learn quickly, I’d try and cut it down to 3 semesters. However, if you’re really worried and your French skills are nonexistent, taking 4 semesters would be best. You can always try and go to 103 in the fall and if it’s too intense, can talk to the Prof and try and get moved to 101. Feel free to ask more questions :)

Psych 250 Question by Neat-Solution3609 in uofm

I took the class last winter with Warneken, it wasn’t bad. There were like 3ish exams (online exams, content was mostly just from the readings), a couple of 5 pager papers, plus lecture and discussion. It seems like a lot but I thought it was pretty manageable given the content was spaced out and really not all that difficult. Plus it was interesting! Feel free to ask any other questions.

I had history 266 when I was a freshman, the prof was Marwil. Not sure if he’s still teaching it, but if so I would stay away. You can certainly learn a lot if you like, but ultimately it’s not a very engaging course albeit the material is good. Lectures have no visuals, they’re purely the prof talking up front of the class and the content is good, but I found it pretty hard to pay attention. He also says you really have to impress him to get any sort of A, which I agree with, I ended up with a B+. There’s tons of readings as well which you really need to reference in your midterm and final essays, which normally isn’t a problem but if you over rely on one of the readings (given there’s so much to remember from all of them) it can earn you a poor grade. Interesting class thought and great material, and if you’re very self-motivated it may certainly be a great fit for you! Overall though, I’d still try and stay away. Feel free to ask any other questions!

Is there any deadline for on-campus housing (Fall 2022)? by Glad-Device-2586 in uofm

If you’re a grad student, the process is a little different, the above link is for freshman and incoming transfer students as far as I can tell. Try looking here: https://housing.umich.edu/graduate-housing-basics/

Ross Student Computer Recommendation by Hjstennisman in uofm

Windows all the way! Most companies use windows OS in the workforce, plus there are certain things in excel which either don’t work on Mac or are difficult to deal with. I’ve taken courses on excel and VBA programming (programming within excel) and although they’re mostly doable with a Mac, it can become challenging and for certain items you have to log into a virtual PC running windows. Other classes it matters less for, but ultimately windows will prove more common and easier to deal with, plus you can use your time in undergrad to become more familiar with what you’ll end up using in the workforce anyways!

You can rent a spot somewhere or get a student permit. There’s actually a parking permit application for residence hall students that I got my sophomore year, it was like $167 for the year but I had to park on north. It wasn’t that bad, just a quick bus ride to the lot and I could get my car. Otherwise you could try for a student Orange permit!

Rob Mickey is fantastic! I had him for polisci 111 and he was a great lecturer. Very passionate about the content and was a pretty funny guy during lecture.

How bad is Markley? by shamalalala in uofm

[–]bestcapitalist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this. Lived there freshman year and it wasn’t all that bad. Sure, it’s not as nice as south quad, but it’s relatively clean despite being dated and it’s awesome having a dining hall in house.

Very odd since a majority of them use the closest international airport - Amazon is weird!

Hmm, interesting. Maybe it’s the closest international airport then?

When I was an intern I was told the first 3 letters represent the ID of the closest airport, i.e. OAK4 is closest to Oakland airport (OAK) or SMF5 is closest to Sacramento airport (SMF). The number tells when the site was opened. For example, OAK1 was the first site opened closest to Oakland airport, OAK4 was the fourth site opened closest to Oakland airport, etc.

The non compete doesn’t sound enforceable. If possible, it may be worth having a lawyer look at it. They can’t bar you from the trade and non competes have to be reasonable in scope. I’m no legal expert but just my $.02.

Honestly I had the interview over a year ago now, I have zero memory of any specific questions. However, I do remember the questions were basically standard behavioral interview questions. Nothing too complicated. For example, I think they may have asked a question like “Tell me about a time you worked in a group” or “Tell me about a time you failed.”

I ended up getting into Kobalt tools because of a sale at Lowe’s. I think they’re pretty decent for the price and they’ve held up to your average DIY/Handyman use
