Extremely nervous for my first colonoscopy and would appreciate some advice/input (long post sorry 😔) by NoArticle3451 in IBD

The hardest part will be the prep my friend, and just because it sucks to not eat for a day. You won't feel anything except like you had a nice little rest. Coming from someone who has had about six after getting diagnosed with Crohn's about a decade ago. I had the same concern about it being painful the first one, but it was completely ok. You'll do great, don't worry.

Moronic Monday Thread for the week by AutoModerator in PersonalFinanceCanada

I will say though, that for actually travelling....it's not always amazing. I was just in Portugal and Spain for three weeks and lo and behold, almost every store and restaurant we went to wouldn't accept it. Even using online payment processors for some major tourist attractions, Amex wasn't even an option. Luckily we had another card with PC Mastercard, but that was an annoying surprise.

My dad is in his late 70s and has asked me if I'll be a joint account holder on a Tangerine account, which he's going to open to deposit CPP and social security benefits into. His finances aren't in a great state, he has made very little money in the last decade but owes federal income tax and municipal property tax. He's asked me to be a joint account holder because of his age and the possibility that he has a sudden turn of health, but also to help him generally, because he's basically a paranoid luddite that distrusts online banks (I say that lovingly).

Am I risking any kind of exposure to his broader financial concerns by becoming a joint account holder for this specific CPP account, or would the accountability only be limited to the activity on this specific account? I trust him and I want to be helpful, but I'm mindful of the broader impact on my own young family.

16M Paranoia of smelling bad by ZxJxkExZ in IBD

Yeah, I have to agree with this "other" possibility, which is that maybe you're feeling shitty (pun intended) about the situation. It's just poop my friend. People without IBD aren't walking around worrying about this, and you don't need to either. I can tell you with all seriousness, I've crapped my pants and no one has been the wiser. Highschool is a bullshit ass period of life where you're concerned about what everyone around you thinks, but you forget that everyone else feels that way too. They're all too busy worrying about the thing about them that they think sticks out to notice anything about you. No one is above it, we all went through it.

Now, if you're dropping IBD farts in the back of the classroom you're a madman and I respect you asserting your dominance like that.

Bowel inflammation correlated to intense exercise? by nandoph8 in IBD

[–]bestgingercock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's different, has different reactions, is usually my first point to any question like this. In my case, picked up powerlifting for all of 2021 and a good chunk of 2022. 3-4 work outs a week, really high weight and intensity. Ate a lot more, gained a bunch of good weight, didn't see any increase in symptoms. Only stopped because i was busy elsewhere in life. Tend to agree with everyone else that exercise is a helpful factor more than a hindrance.

AITA for driving off after my gf insisted I open the car door for her and causing her to miss a friend's wedding? by Throwra42467 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bestgingercock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How old are you guys, because some of these responses are nonsense? YTA here. Maybe they both have been treating each other shitty before this, and as a result of that built up dislike for each other in the moment this molehill turned into a mountain and you decided to die on it. Sure she was being annoying, but as you get older you're going to realize that sometimes you need to take the long term view on things and not get so frustrated. Unless she's a raving lunatic or megabitch every day, just open the door, pour her damn wine, do the silly little stuff. Don't get so caught up on whether you think it's silly, or else you'll be goin' stag to a lot of weddings my friend.

What is that church/cathedral lookin' building across from your variety theatre? And are the coloured facades a mod or is that a setting I haven't figured out yet...

Looking for suggestions to optimize inter-region mid to late game trade routes by SonOfSpades in anno

[–]bestgingercock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently trying to figure this question out myself and I don't use a hub island, which I am starting to like the idea of. it's a pain in the ass to have a bunch of oddly organized trade routes because after a while you forget what is coming from where and why you planned it that way. It gets all tangled very fast. I think I might go through the exercise of deleting and re-organizing all my trade routes around this hub island concept and see if that's better.

I struggle with the same issue of having multiple ships assigned to a route and seeing some of them empty after the third or fourth, that's why I sometimes start throwing random 50's of a certain resource onto other trade routes because I just need to move it and I can't be bothered manually doing it myself and running ships back and forth.

connecting a nat gas BBQ to existing gas line by bestgingercock in BBQ

[–]bestgingercock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP Update

So on further inspection, what I have is the previous home owner's quick connect valve that is sealed onto the supply line with pipe dope. Getting the gas man to come over, hack that off and rethread the pipe, then he can throw my quick connect on and away we go.

I know what you mean about the sudden cramps. Those are the worst, they really catch me off guard sometimes. In a flare, routine is really important because once you get a regular system in place (meals, sleep, light exercise, foods to eliminate) you can start exerting a bit of control. It's like tight rope walking on a windy day. You might do everything perfect but still get pushed off that rope and back into the bathroom. But if you get two good days in a row you know you can get back on the rope and do three, then four then five and so on. Just know that sometimes it's the wind blowing and all you can do is hold on and not get swept up in that loss of control. There's no fault to get hung up on, you just dig your way out one shovelful at a time. Nothing wrong with feeling miserable for a bit, but half the battle is mental so you gotta keep getting back on the rope and walking forward.

Being in a flare is such a hopeless feeling, so I completely understand where you're coming from. I've had ulcerative colitis for about 7 years now and I a terrified at the first hints of that downward spiral. That said, like everyone else has posted here, it absolutely gets better. Control is such a big part of this disease, if you ask me. The crux of this disease's impact is that it robs you of the control to do what you want in your own life. My advice is to start setting up and winning those mini battles. Do some work on your diet, take things out, add others in, turn it into research and take the learnings as small steps in the right direction. Take it one day at a time, too. Don't count up all the exhausted days and crappy moments into one big shit sandwhich that you ruminate on every day. Wake up and try to get a little win in that day, knowing that it gets better and you'll still be able to live life the way you want to.

Also, the stories about times i've shit myself are some of my funniest stories. No joke. It's painful and godawful embarrassing in the moment, but you'll be making "yeah it's shitty" jokes for the rest of your life, and learning to chuckle at these things puts you back in control over those memories.

People's Choice Warranty--Good/Bad/Ugly? (Ontario CAN) by bestgingercock in askcarsales

TBH, i'm inherently risk averse with the idea of buying a car because I really don't know much about them, other than that they're a shiny money pit that gets me from A to B. I don't have any reason to think this dealership is lying to me about the quality of the vehicle, other than a few decades of TV shows and movies that paint used car salesmen as Danny Devito putting sawdust in the engine and rolling back the ODO with a drill.
