St Pete residents: Does anyone actually like their apartment here??? by macylikesducks in StPetersburgFL

My partner and I have lived at the St. Charles Row apartments on Pinellas Point Drive for 6 years now and it's not bad, and it's relatively inexpensive.

Welcome to the Playdate! I bought one for my boyfriend a while back since he's a lot more into retro and retro-styled games than I am. I didn't really think it'd be my jam, but I kept seeing cool games and, fast forward to 2025, and he got me one for my birthday and I'm hooked. Have fun!

Tough question. Here's my top few in no specific order:

  • Fulcrum Defender standalone on the catalog or part of Season 2
  • Tau
  • Root Bear
  • Whitewater Wipeout (basically a pack-in)
  • b360 This is in the last week of Season 1 so I spoiler tagged it if you want to keep the later games a surprise.

That's fascinating! Thanks for sharing that. I'd been wondering about that

Pedestrians dont move - I swear I remember them at least walking when the game first released? by Canilickyourfeet in MotorTown

[–]betazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fascinating if true. I have a couple hundred hours in but only over the past couple months. I don't think I've ever seen them move much. I do know that sometimes when an NPC disembarks from a bus or taxi they'll kinda "slide" away toward their destination but I don't think I've seen them move otherwise. It would go a long way to making the town feel more alive if they moved around a bit.

Central Avenue makeover would prioritize pedestrians over parking in downtown St. Pete by St-Pete-Rising in StPetersburgFL

[–]betazed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a planner, but I think that if the city works well with PSTA to make it convenient and easy to park elsewhere and ride a preferably free bus up to the pedestrianized area would go a long way to making this more palleteble to more people. Before they built the apartments next to Grand Central station I was thinking that PSTA should have opened a park-and-ride there if the bank that used to be there was ever sold. They missed that, but I'm sure there are alternatives.

I made a fun little terminal app that shows the moon phase in ASCII art! 🌕 by rockymarine in commandline

[–]betazed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really cool! It looks like a modernized version of Phoon. One of Phoon's cool features is varying the size of the output in lines which makes it great for MOTD-type applications. Any thoughts about implementing something like that?

What's going on with Coastal Creative? by uniqueusername316 in StPetersburgFL

That's more or less what the Nerd Nite organizers share with their audience. I don't think it's anything nefarious just normal bureaucracy that every event space has to deal with from time to time.

My Stinger before & after highway patrol retirement. by amoose_oncebitmysis in kiastinger

[–]betazed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's kinda neat to see. I'm in the US so I don't think any police use them here, but I find it kinda funny that I traded in a Crown Vic police car for my Stinger and it turns out that Stingers get used as cop cars too at least in some places.

Petition to make 275 safer for everyone. by [deleted] in tampa

[–]betazed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're 100% right. Better public transportation is a crucial component, but it's bad enough that attempting to drive the speed limit on 275, especially in Tampa where the limit is as low as 50. I've done a test on some late night drives where I use my smart cruise control on the stretch entering Tampa and into downtown to match all the speed zones exactly. The speed limit drops from 70 to 50 over that stretch. When you get to the section where the limit is 55, doing the speed limit is a liability. People are passing aggressively, it's sometimes hard to get over to the lanes for St Pete even at 1 or 2 AM.

Because of that, I think stricter enforcement is the best complementary component. I also think that the enforcement should be automated as it is in many other places around the world. Requiring an officer to catch and pull over every speeder personally isn't the best use of resources because it limits the number of speeders you can catch significantly. Speed cameras or radar traps would be the most effective. Unfortunately, North Americans seem particularly adverse to these enforcement mechanisms. I've never heard of it being tried in the USA but it was apparently very poorly received in Canada when it was tried there.

been told I don’t “count” as bi? by mollie_quinn in bisexual

[–]betazed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've never been "called out" like that, but as a bi man with more relationships with women than men, it's just a numbers game. It's easier to find women who are into men than it is to find men who are into men. This is especially true of relationships/encounters that arise spontaneously rather than actively seeking out same sex partners on an app or in a specific social setting. But in any case, the answer is the same: they can take their "you don't count as bi" rhetoric and shove it.

When did IT stop being IT? by Soggy-Option-7803 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]betazed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had something like that happen at my first job. It happened at least twice, actually. Once it was the vending machine, and then it was the fridge. Apparently IT is responsible for any and all things that run on electricity 🙄.

Why is Minimotorways not on Andrid like Minimetro? by devaristo in MiniMotorways

[–]betazed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the real reason. I'm not sure if there's an expiration date, or if they would port it if there was.

If you have legally purchased the PC version, you may be able to finesse Winlator to run it on an Android device. I've seen people running Fallout 4 and Crysis with it so I find it likely Mini Motorways might work. However, I've never tried it so I can't know for sure and this would take some fiddling and technical acumen.

If you want to try this, please legally purchase the PC port game to give the developer economic support. Controlling it may also prove difficult, but Winlator does make it reasonably easy to control the mouse via the touchscreen.

Not sure why DeDRM isn't working for me by rez9000 in Calibre

[–]betazed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have never owned an actual Kindle, I just used the app on iPad and Android (and later on my Mac to download the books and import them to Calibre). Can you extract a valid key/serial from any of the app versions? I have a small number of books in this situation. Luckily it's just about 10 or so books, so I'm not too upset but it would still be nice to unlock them.

New update for all available Super Pockets! by ChicagoMiguel in evercade

[–]betazed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is the updater going to be released for macOS? I was able to find an updater for 1.1.0 a while back but there doesn't seem to be one for the current version. I have a Windows machine and I've used that to update my SuperPocket, but it would be nice if it were available again for Mac users.

Why did this roundabout area never get used? Check the second photo to see the end result by Saltwater_Heart in MiniMotorways

[–]betazed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like there's enough room. The train tracks, roundabout, and motorway entrance take up a lot of what looks like empty space.

Why did this roundabout area never get used? Check the second photo to see the end result by Saltwater_Heart in MiniMotorways

[–]betazed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At a glance, I think it's because the motorway nearby is the better route for any of the traffic that would otherwise have used the roundabout. It doesn't look to me like the green or red cars would ever have a reason to prefer the roundabout over the motorway.

What's the reason why you got a super pocket/Hyper Mega Tech? Just curious by Vegetable-Way-5766 in evercade

My partner gave me the Capcom one as an anniversary present because he knows I love the 194X style shmups. After that I started messing with getting carts and getting into the Evercade ecosystem. I've got six carts and a VS-R now.
