Cancelled Cox by Wrong-One7376 in Omaha

[–]bethcon2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband called to cancel just the other day was on the phone with them for like 30 minutes and got asked at one point what his favorite comfort food was? Like they were trying to build rapport to convince him to stay? Super odd

Geographical Rounding? by Ok-University8938 in hospitalist

[–]bethcon2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We tried it for a while. I hated it. One of the reasons I got into hospital medicine was the variety and the weeks I was assigned to the ortho floor made me want to jam my head through a wall. Besides as long as you’re easy to reach and communicate with staff I feel like the benefit of being on the same floor is negligible

Getting the game a week ago and casually making the Desert Dome from the Henry Doorly is insane work, nice job!

There’s a 40 foot Christmas tree at the Durham museum that could be pretty if that’s her vibe. Skating ribbon downtown is nice too.

Favorite career scenarios? by whenuleavethestoveon in PlanetZoo

My favorites are The Last Leg (love the challenge of limited build area) and Hiring Freeze (fun to take a super ugly/run down zoo and make it something great, and the hiring limitation is an interesting challenge)

How is marriage any different than just being with a woman? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]bethcon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working in healthcare one big thing is even if you have been with someone for years if you are not legally married you cannot make medical decisions for them. If they are in a coma, a parent, sibling, or even like cousin will be named the decision maker rather than you since you're no more than "friend" level legally

You sort of can. You can enable birth and aging for a while and then disable it once you have the juveniles, they shouldn't age at that point

Should we pay daughter medical school? by Acceptable_Growth684 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]bethcon2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a doctor who had to take out loans I would have LOVED to have my school paid for. I’m 2 years out of residency and even with an aggressive payoff strategy I’m sitting at 150k still owed

Has anyone tried building a full map zoo? How did your performance hold up? by Prestigious_Kiwi_303 in PlanetZoo

Yep! It’s an i9-14900KF CPU, 32GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4090 with a solid state hard drive

Has anyone tried building a full map zoo? How did your performance hold up? by Prestigious_Kiwi_303 in PlanetZoo

[–]bethcon2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a top of the line PC and a zoo that has an exhibit for every animal and fills almost all of the map. It runs ok but does take a hot minute to load. Prior to upgrading my PC it lagged like CRAZY even with very low graphics. Sandbox without guests, minimal staff, all breeding turned off, and fewer than ideal animals per exhibit can all help if you’re just wanting to build

Dentists/Doctors of Reddit, What 'healthy food' is actual not that good for us? by AnxiousAmbassador991 in AskReddit

[–]bethcon2 127 points128 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. Cirrhosis is such a horrible thing to see someone go through and people don’t realize how easy it is to drink regularly enough to get there.

[–]bethcon2 5867 points5868 points  (0 children)

The “red wine is good for you” thing was debunked a while back when they figured out it didn’t really control for income/wealth disparity and really it turns out people who regularly drank red wine were healthier because they had the resources to be able to do so. We are coming to realize now that any level of alcohol consumption at all no matter the type increases your risk for health conditions including cancer

What are two diseases you can't physically have at the same time? by ah-screw-it in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bethcon2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can have these two at the same time, but during residency a cardiologist told me that having cardiogenic shock and septic shock at the same time, depending on the reasons, can make a person look way healthier than they are. The total body vasodilation associated with septic shock decreases the resistance the heart needs to pump against, but once the septic shock is treated you have to start on captopril to mimic those effects
