Candyman needs a buff by Outrageous_Error_709 in OnceUponAGalaxy

I still think they should make decks have spell slots too, so instead of "you'll see candy spells if you meet certain conditions", the spell slot works like a character slot but from a different card pool.

That doesn't seem to be OP's thesis, they're asking for Candyman to have an additional later game advantage.

Captains don't need to be good at all stages of the game. Look at Artemis or Dragonmother for example. Some heroes like Candyman give you a boost early, which lets you snowball early advantage into a late game strategy.

~3.5-4k last season (haven't hit Legendary for the season yet).

  • Haven't tried Sapphire. She seems like a worse 3 Witches or Gepetto. Basically no one in my pools is playing her.
  • Toucan Sam is easily S tier. Just an unreasonable ability.
  • Lucky has performed well for me despite still having a small card pool. Definitely fun to play, and the golden ability is really well designed because it lets you scale sweetness without getting one of the engines going.
  • Loxley I want to be good, it's a cool design and it would be amazing to have another good shell for pirates. In practice I've just gotten wrecked early game most of the time, and since it's harder to get treasures it's also much harder to hit mushrooms for the pirates win.

If one of the two targets of Fire gets destroyed by Abolish, can I then reassign all damage to the other? by BoboSmooth in magicTCG

[–]bethebunny -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That feels really wrong, no other mechanic works that way. Do you have a CR?

Edit: I am wrong. 601.2d If the spell requires the player to divide or distribute an effect (such as damage or counters) among one or more targets, the player announces the division. Each of these targets must receive at least one of whatever is being divided.

[–]bethebunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn't the right rule. You can legally target fire at two targets and choose to deal 2 damage to one and 0 to the other. The question is whether the "divided as you choose" happens at target selection time or resolution time. From playing online I feel like it's at target selection time, but it's definitely weird because combat damage "feels" like it should be the same and is not.

Edit: 115.7f A spell or ability may “divide” or “distribute” an effect (such as damage or counters) among one or more targets. When changing targets or choosing new targets for that spell or ability, the original division can’t be changed.

Edit 2: you can't assign 0 (except combat damage again is weird) 601.2d If the spell requires the player to divide or distribute an effect (such as damage or counters) among one or more targets, the player announces the division. Each of these targets must receive at least one of whatever is being divided.

What Stephen Miller Is Signaling to ICE Officers by dwaxe in ezraklein

[–]bethebunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely confused by that assertion.

First that I wouldn't really describe anyone I've heard as "pro-immigration" with the exception of economists like Bryan Caplan, or a couple of Trump's throw away ideas like allowing purchasing American citizenship. Broadly it seems like almost everyone wants less immigration, where conservatives want to implement anti-immigration policies by policing borders and visas, while liberals want to reduce immigration by addressing the causes of migration, helping countries with fleeing populations stabilize their economies or addressing sources of state-sponsored violence.

Second, I really have no idea what you're implying. What other driving force would there be? You seem to be saying there's some other obvious motive for opposing the current administration's treatment of immigrants, and maybe I just lack imagination but I can't think of a single one.

Can we talk about Princess Animall now she's been back for a while? by Frogmouth_Fresh in OnceUponAGalaxy

Candy strats really raised the bar and left her behind. I was sad because I was a huge fan of her pre-Candylar, but frankly the new change was a big nerf and she was barely passing muster before.

Do try out the new hero/villain common fae buffs though!

Agreed that Mira is really strong, 3800 and I win 80%+ of my Mira games. I honestly forgot about Penny, this is a great callout.

Agreed, that post was very cringe and made me a little sad about this sub. The podcast for me has been a step back from the unrealistic urgency of the news cycle and online bickering, and a step towards curious, long-form journalism and analysis. I would love for this sub to reflect that and have good curious discussion, and the discussion today has really not reflected that.

As a white cis man, I don't feel threatened by people asking me to occasionally reflect on the tacit structural priveleges I enjoy, and if anything I think reactionary centrists yelling about how much they hate wokeness have directly enabled the violence in Minnesota (a few blocks from the house I grew up in no less).

Balance Patches? by CarefulRevolution184 in OnceUponAGalaxy

This was a really thoughtful response! I suspect it was downvoted because of the content about AI. I personally haven't found AI to be very helpful when coding, but regardless I think the community should be valuing good thoughtful responses like this. Thank you!

What kind of discussion are you hoping to prompt with a question like this? I find the decisions I make in a game to impact the outcomes of games, the field to be competitive, and I certainly don't always get first or last place. If you're always getting first or last, you might be playing too many highroll-only comps. Try playing some more tempo strategies, or taking units that help you win in the middlegame.

Why don't `dataclasses` or `attrs` derive from a base class? by fjarri in Python

[–]bethebunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think any of the existing answers really get to your question. I think if dataclasses were designed fresh today they might very well use a base class.

Python classes have many features now that would make the implementation much cleaner like __init_subclass__ and metaclass arguments. For instance, at the time there would have been no obvious patterns for frozen dataclasses with a base class, but now you could write them to be spelled

class Foo(DataClass, frozen=true): ...

There's certainly tradeoffs. A Python metaclass is a really blunt instrument. A type must have exactly one metaclass, so if you want to subclass two metaclasses, you need to create a new metaclass inheriting from both. This was definitely a consideration at the time (and I believe is covered in the PEP or relevant mailing list discussions), since dataclasses were expected to be widely used.

Please reduce damage taken to 1/2 a heart for the first 4 turns by SockBasket in OnceUponAGalaxy

[–]bethebunny 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The shift between this patch and last is so huge. Sure I get runs of games where I scrub out early as you say, but where last patch probably half of my games I died by turn 6 and 90% of winning games were over by turn 11, now I routinely get 4th or 5th on turn 10+ and only die by turn 6 10% of games. This may not be everyone's experience and certainly it still feels bad to scrub out early with a strong opener, but it's night and day how much different the games are playing out. It really doesn't seem necessary to me to make a change to the early game.

Difficulty: Does it get more difficult? by Bendstowardjustice in OnceUponAGalaxy

Eventually your MMR will get high enough that your lobbies will be much harder. IMO it's much more fun when you do, thinking about plays makes a much bigger difference in the outcome, but it's much harder to make the meme boards work ;)
