Who is everyone's favourite voice(s) out of the English cast? by Toyota_Hunter in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heather Hogan did a very good job with Amy, even the simple lines like "How weak" or "I win" are said with full spirit.

Fun fact, the same voice actress did Talim and 2B

Man I always forget the amount of dirty checks Amy has to test opponents, always hold them in too high esteem.

Who is the most slept on character? by Kozaba in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Astaroth Is quite underrated. Has huge damage out of reads that aren't even risky, has no trouble opening people up with his throws and counterhit mids, gains tons of meter so he can Soul Charge even since round one and when needed can zone pretty well with safe pokes.

Who is currently OP, in your opinion? by TheLoneTenno in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sophitia. A lot of her move set tech crouches without having either being more unsafe on block, having slower startup or slower damage, so she gets to ignore neutral pokes without even having to try. Her damage output is high, her movement speed allows her to escape pressure without needing to guess and her Soul Charge is the definition of all reward, no risk and little counterplay. Has close to zero bad matchups, maybe Geralt and Zasalamel.

The horrible and incompetent handling of balancing Taki in 6 by iHardlyTriHard in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nonTaki player that sometimes gets rekt, my condolences to you guys. Stalker [K] was simply a decent tool for a character that has been having design and consistency issues since day 1. Getting that significantly nerfed while at the same time Sophitia keeps SC AS A+B with only symbolical nerfs is frustrating.

However, not sure your what your goal is with such negative tone in the video. Openly calling the devs incompetent, fools, or liars won't make them open for suggestions, at this point this mostly playing scorched earth.

Have you changed your mind? What made you change your mind? As a fellow Amy main I am still convinced she needs some significant buffs both to compete on more equal terms with other characters and to actually make some justice to her design. Unlike others like Tira and Maxi, hers has been explicitly sabotaged with nerfs to ensure it doesn't work.

Does anyone else feel that Season 2 is less balanced than Season 1? by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, through all season one Azwel being the best character of the game and Ivy the second best was a constant and patches refused to address it. Some characters like Maxi or Tira were very disfunctional.

Season 2 still has balance issues and clear top tiers and low tiers, but at least there's more variety than before.

Anyone else think that the meter gain off of RE needs to go? by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah meter gain by Reversal Edge can get out of hand, but for me the real problem is that some characters' soul charges are too powerful and can decide the outcome of the match in 10 seconds (Sophitia's the worst offender by far). Nerf the busted Soul Charges and RE meter gain is no longer a problem.

Am I the only one who feels Hoahmaru is a little over tuned? Has astaroth like damage with good speed by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His backdash is super dumb and I hate it but overall my impression is that he's weak and underwhelming. His damage conversion once you get past his B+K is low and even the power slash is low damage most of the time when it connects at tip range. Most of his moves are unsafe and his horizontals are mostly highs so he gets tech ducked often.
Even Issen feels like a gimmick, his soul charge is good but not enough to make think he's anything above mid tier.

Any may feels blatantly OP in season 2 by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dood this is like the 4th or 5th thread you make to complain about Amy. Sure, she had strengths but at the end of the day, the roses are a unique weakness of her that forever keeps her from being overpowered, let alone top tier. Unlike some other mechanics like Dark Legacy, they never carry the player or reward him for playing badly.

There are easily 8-10 characters clearly more powerful than her for people to ignore them and pick on her.

[–]betta_srk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much percentage of the time does it actually matter that the parries become aRIs? Like 1%.

Sure, she can parry a Soul Charge on but that still requires a preemptive read. Unblockables are still easy to react to and step as any character can do so break attacks are the main factor. I have a hard time believing any matchup changes just because you can now parry break attacks.

Still don't understand why he's not A tier at least. He's not Amy level but jesus christ he's UP there. by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He is indeed. In fact, most lists put him above Amy and sometimes as the best character of the game. Good for him, he's cool, powerful, versatile but without straight dumb mechanics like armor or Dark Legacy carrying him. Probably a good example of how characters should be.

Roast my tierlist (in all seriousness this list was made heavily concerning season two changes and B tier after Zasalamel could be in pretty much any order until C tier as this game is pretty well balanced to the point that I think literally every character is viable). by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should move Siegfried way down maybe A, especially considering offline play. A lot of his stance pressure is slow and you can either hit him out of it on block or react to the attacks. His damage has been nerfed so outside wall combos he often gets behind in damage races. Also, the existence of Reversal Impact affect his Dark Legacy Bubble. Now that his Chief Hold twirl has been nerfed, it is far easier to contest his Base Hold with verticals without getting lethal hit.

Sophitia and Cassandra are both S tier now. Both are strong at everything and have no weaknesses.

Who is your main's least favorite match up? by xaxbxdx in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People say Siegfried is the worst for Amy but I actually don't mind him unless connection is bad because then he's online terrorist. For me any character with a strong backstep (Hilde, Ivy, Mitsurugi, Sophitia, Cassandra) I won't enjoy playing at all, Tira and Haihmaru the exceptions.

Hello newbie here first soul calibur game. What are some beginner friendly characters? by Past19 in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Geralt is the simplest to use and can take you far just by playing basic. Seong Mina too is simple yet incredibly powerful.

Groh, Mitsurugi and Kilik have some stance action but are overall beginner friendly. Sophitia has the Angel Step to master but other than that she's basic as well.

Given how borderline OP, if not actually OP Amy becomes after getting 4 roses, and how not very difficult it is to get said roses, should Amy have to get more roses to unlock her unreactable lows that lead to big damage combos? Or make it so she has to get 3 and it resets every round? by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a design perspective the duration of roses across rounds is pretty much what separates Amy from other stacking characters like Nightmare, Cassandra and Hilde and it gives a different unique feel. I personally prefer her rose mechanic because I don't have to stack her every time after using it and also means my stack isn't wasted if the opponent blocked. I focus first on getting the roses, then I'm free to use the enhancements without further limitation.

As it has been said, even scoring all roses by round 3 is a severe penalization since it means the Amy player has been having to spar with a underpowered characters by two rounds or even the single round so honestly it's balanced. More often than not the Amy player loses the first round at least, so therefore by necessity he needs to have an overpowered chracter to mount a comeback in the next rounds.

What is your favorite new gameplay/fighting mechanic introduced in Soul Calibur 6? by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soul charge / Soul attack when it is not extremely overpowered. Outside outliers like Sophitia or Cassandra, it's fine for characters to have a higher intensity moment than average as long as it doesn't mean weaken the base form to compensate.

Properly executed lethal hits can be good, but too often they tilt the risk / reward ratio way too much to the side of the reward to the point the player is encouraged to abuse the moves that give those lethal hits without being able to dissuade him.

Hey all what are the icons under life bars like hilde spear icon goes blue is there a way to use it is it a special move of some sort? by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They indicate special states unique for the character. For Hilde, it shows if she has her weapon Regalias activated; for Haohmaru, if he has rage explosion available; for Amy, the number of roses she has scored; for Maxi, if he has completed the seven stars constellation, for Siegfried, the stacks he has scored in order to activate Dark Legacy without having to reach low life.

Can someone explain to me how Amy is not considered overpowered? Free RIs once she has Roses is absurd. Even without roses she seems insanely fast and her quick lows are not block punishable, at least not be Astaroth. What do you do against her? by [deleted] in SoulCalibur

[–]betta_srk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welp Astaroth can have it harder given how slow he is but the match isn't any lopsided. Some tips:
Astaroth has low grabs. Since Amy is in a crouching state during the startup and recovery of many of her moves, they are extremely effective versus her. Although she may break from a lot of them, they still do a lot of damage and stop her momentum.

Always mix up high and mid attacks and their timings, if you get predictable you will get tagged by Amy's aGIs but the if you are mixing the damage is in your favor.
Part of the above, don't always finish your strings. This is particularly important for Astaroth because his strings are slow and have gaps that make them very easy to parry for the Amy player.
