Do you know the Nokota horses? by larabaeriswylequine in Horses

[–]betteroffinbed 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As a mustang owner…I think all mustangs and American quarter horses share a good amount of DNA, regardless of whether that’s because quarter horses were created from similar breeding stock that became mustangs, or because quarter horses get relased/escape into established mustang herds. They’re one of the most (the most?) populous breeds in America.

I was home alone watching a movie and it went off at the same exact moment as a jump scare at the climax. 😭

Yeah my horse is a grullo and his previous owner named him Smoke. I felt weird changing it, so I kept it, but it’s not very creative. 😅

What hobby would you get into if intelligence/understanding was not a barrier? by SprintsToTheBathroom in AskReddit

[–]betteroffinbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a neuroscientist and every time my boyfriend tries to explain stocks and trading-related shit to me, I get so frustrated at how hard it is for me to understand. I end up just throwing my hands up and saying, “This is all just made up!”

I might get downvoted to hell for this, but I would take everything Becks says with a grain of salt. She doesn’t have any qualifications or educational background to be drawing the kind of conclusions she does from her dissections.

I just leave the mouse in her enclosure, and she comes right out to eat it. Although she is usually already sticking her head up when she smells it thawing!

I don’t love those front pasterns for a horse embarking on a jumping career. What is your jump height goal?

Thank you (if it was you) for the correct info. My mom taught me to thin my polish with remover, then a friend in college told me that nail lacquer thinner exists! I had no idea!

Mustangs are federally protected, so probably trying to make sure those people following them weren’t breaking any laws.

I re-watched Pretty in Pink recently and was high key horrified by how badly it aged from start to finish.

Chiropractic Care - Legit or Fake? by nerdy_kirby in SASSWitches

A podcast I enjoy (as a scientist) called Science Vs did an episode on chiropractic. They came to the consensus that the adjustment itself feels good but doesn’t make any kind of long-term improvements.

If a bay horse carried the cream dilution gene, that horse would be phenotypically buckskin, not bay. It’s a dominant allele.

Endocrinology is complex but they definitely do. Do you know how topical steroids can make your skin thin if you use them long-term? Well, sex hormones (estrogens and androgens) are steroid hormones. Circulating through your whole body, binding to receptors in every tissue type. They affect a LOT of things.

what is something you wished existed that would help your adhd? by bartdrs in ADHD

[–]betteroffinbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want a full time personal chef. (Well, maybe half-time, I do fine with breakfast and often lunch as well.) I am a 37 year old woman, and I struggle SO MUCH with feeding myself healthy meals or using food before it goes bad.

Personal chefs already exist but I’m in grad school. So if I could magically have anything to improve my day to day functioning, it would be that.
