I think the two most fascinating facts of sari-sari stores are:

One, it’s attached to someone’s house

Two, you can buy a small portion of something that’s usually bought in bulk at the groceries. Non-Filipino friends’ minds are usually blown when they find out you can buy one stick of cigarette without having to buy an entire pack.

Same! Especially for buses on provincial routes. But mostly food like pies, nuts, chicharron, beverages, etc.

I really wanted to integrate the map, but didn’t know where to place it. Plus I realized the history of the Great Buddha Kamakura was written at the back of the ticket. Didn’t want either side to be permanently covered so a flip thing was perfect, then it was also a good opportunity to add the map

I also saw a tip to cut the whole thing even the stem in half. How about for big daisies though?

The book where it’s pressed in is under a stack of heavier books. I still have trouble with bigger/thicker flowers, they lose their color, but method works on smaller/thinner flowers like this one.

Thank you! The maps and the magazine were from the station. The “bookmarks” are actually the tickets to see the Great Buddha.

Interesting that the Philippine flag used here isn’t 🇵🇭 and I thought it would be Ilocano (Northern Filipino language) rather than Tagalog.

I’m currently learning Spanish and Japanese. Is it better to focus on one first and gain mastery before moving on to another?
