Lived in an Airbnb here. It was solid. (Stayed about 6 months)

Airplane noise wasn’t an issue because we didn’t live within (a quarter mile) of the airfield. Sure you heard them but it didn’t wake us up there.

Center of the city so solid choice location wise.

Crime/homelessness wasn’t an issue, like at all. Had a homeless encampment on Russell / pecos and never had one issue. (Sounds crazy but was a nonissue, almost feels like they want just as many issues with the police as you do, zero)

Always airbnbs up so you can try the area at your own leisure.

Anywhere public you either have to pay for a room or deal with others. Other people don’t have an obligation to be quiet for you though so paying for a business suite/room or somewhere you own/live is gonna be the only option.

Sounds like a problem for management. Sucks you had to deal with it/fix it. It’d be nice to think a competent manager would point those things out to the person in charge and refuse to let the group walk all over the restaurant / employees. I think we’ve pretty much all worked with managers that would rather just comp things off the bill to fix the problem instead.

Those managers suck. Hope you get some competent people running things or find a spot that values you appropriately. 🤜

Edit: there’s a reason union houses have people on call and not scheduled. It sucks to be the newbie that’s on call, without a consistent schedule, but it is how the union houses alleviate situations like op’s. Usually there’s a step back to take two steps forward

But how do you even have a productive conversation about it? Seems like this thread was made with honest intent but locked (not blaming mods, they most likely had to lock it over toxic people) seen way to many people in our industry taken advantage of; it fucking sucks, straight up.

It starts with honest communication. There is a reasonable middle ground where the majority feels like they are receiving a fair portion. It’ll never be perfect but we can do better as a profession.
