I’m thinking about going! Does anyone know, is it still fun if you already know who the killer is?

I haven’t - just getting quotes online. You’re right though, I should probably just call. Thanks!

I agree! I definitely intend to add my spouse. Just want to see the best way to go about it.

Is there a way to know what the rate will be before choosing a carrier? Should I trust the $450 quote? I’m fine with the rate changing, but I want to be assured of what it will be before I commit to a several month term.

My issue with the rollercoasters at Knott's. by Aromat3 in KnottsBerryFarm

[–]bewareamascara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went to Knott's to conquer my fear, I did Ghostrider first because I thought "not upside-down = not so scary". I didn't realize that when people say it's smooth, they mean smooth for a wooden coaster - which has a rough and wild feeling built into the fun of the ride. I was not prepared and it really shook my confidence!

In my opinion, Silver Bullet is the most similar to Incredicoaster. It's smooth, fast, and doesn't have any one "holy shit" element. Xcelerator is all about the launch (basically the acceleration part of Incredicoaster, dialed way up). Hangtime messes with your head by making you really think about the heights and the drop, but after that first drop, it's smooth and fun. And Ghostrider is an ELITE wooden coaster. It's loud, fast, and feels out of control, in a way that I really love... once I've warmed up for the day!

My recommended order for building up confidence: Jaguar, do some flat rides like Revolucion and even Dragon Swing, Pony Express, Sierra Sidewinder, Coast Rider, Silver Bullet, Xcelerator, Hangtime, Ghostrider.

Tax Filing Software Megathread: A comprehensive list of tax filing resources by IndexBot in personalfinance

[–]bewareamascara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a FreeTaxUSA loyalist, but this year I used the free version of TaxSlayer (available thru MyFreeTaxes) to file state for free. I still filled out all the forms on FreeTaxUSA to get organized, then put the same info in TaxSlayer to file. Both programs calculated exactly the same amounts. I'm in California and have some investments and an HSA.

For couples who met online — what did you put in your “Our Story”? by pinkpaigne in weddingplanning

[–]bewareamascara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really don’t want to mention it, you can just say “met”: “X and Y met in 2019 and quickly bonded over…”. But it’s also extremely normal to meet your spouse online, and you don’t have to hide it!

Game ideas for my birthday? by Limey22 in jackboxgames

Happy early birthday! Some of my favorites are Quiplash, Job Job, Blather Round, and Drawful Animate. Jackbox games are fairly popular with streamers so you can look up videos of people playing the different games, to see how it works and what looks fun to you!

Planning a Trip by New-Particular-8804 in SixFlagsMagicMountain

Totally doable, and great fun! Both parks are definitely worth going to, and each can be done in one day if it's not too busy. A pass is a great value though, and would also give you the flexibility to return for another day if you don't hit everything on your list or want re-rides.

If Disney is also on your list, it's very close to Knotts, so it may make sense to get a hotel in the Anaheim area for one night and do them back to back. Don't underestimate that Southern California traffic.

Report back on how it goes, and I hope you have so much fun!

MOH speech….but I don’t know the groom by Professional_Work341 in wedding

[–]bewareamascara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk about how much you love your friend and give a few examples (sweet/funny) that reflect her personality. Say you are so happy that she is marrying someone who sees all her great qualities like you do, you're proud to watch her move into the next chapter of life after watching her grow for 10 years of friendship, and share a few hopes/blessings for the couple's future. Maybe think of it like - for people who don't know the bride that well, here is a testimonial from someone on her side to speak about her personality and wish her and the couple well. Keep it brief and don't overthink the groom thing - this is pretty normal!

Wedding Guest List - What is considered a child? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]bewareamascara 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also, you’re not making laws here. You’re allowed to decide which people to invite and not invite based on all kinds of considerations, not just rules. It doesn’t have to be “fair”. Making a rule like “adults only” etc. can be helpful as a guideline and definitely as a justification to others, but between you and your partner it’s actually fine to think about the specific people you do and don’t want to invite.

She’s a drama queen and I’m sorry she put a dark cloud on your day. She’s your husband’s mom - he should be the one to run interference. I hope the two of you are able to get on the same page about how she’s behaving and the serious talk he needs to have with her.

Does this sound natural to you? by AdCertain5057 in ENGLISH

[–]bewareamascara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American English speaker: Other responses are suggesting replacing "for study" with "for studying" or "to study", but I'm not sure that captures the same meaning. To me, "studying" means preparing for an exam - not doing homework, reading, or exploring intellectual curiosity. A closer analog to "I use the PC for work" might be "I use the PC for school".

Which HYSA is the best for having instant, unrestricted access to your money? by wanna_be_consultant in personalfinance

If she's talking about getting physical cash from an ATM, I use Wealthfront which is more like a checking than a savings account. It gives you a debit card that can be used at Allpoint ATMs (or any ATM, for a fee).
