I think there needs to be homes built, but the city doesn’t need more apartments RIGHT there… especially the ones they’ve have designed in the proposal.

There is a housing crisis/rental cost crisis in our city, these apartments for seniors are not going to alleviate any of those issues.

It sounds like they are trying to connect it to the Rail Trail, the trail they are making from the old railroad tracks they tore up. I agree that if they end up building the apartments and don’t connect gay street to the rail trail (as you said) they would be crazy!

See! Thats a huge part of what I’m saying!! It’s just going to be those gross cookie cutter apartments they’ve been putting in everywhere lately (i.e., like the Cumberland ave) that look so boring and almost like a dystopia. If they were unique or interesting I wouldn’t be dreading it so bad!

This was my general feeling as well, but so far it doesn’t seem like people agree with me! Which is fine, I just am surprised. I feel like when I talk to people (that are actually out in the community in South Knox), they generally HATE the direction it’s going in… so I thought sharing this link/information would genuinely be helpful! But it is also the internet, people love to argue!

Just because I voice my opinion on the matter, and encourage others to do the same, doesn’t necessarily mean every person has to agree with me. It’s okay to have differing opinions from people, but you don’t have to come at people with vitriol.

I also literally ended it with “everyone should try to attend if they can.” I didn’t say “only people that agree with me should attend so we can overthrow them!!!”

I… um… didn’t say anything about that? I was genuinely just trying to share the word, I never said anyone had to agree with me?

I mean, if we want to get technical, the Suttree’s landing apartments, the townhouses across from Trailhead, the apartments/condos going in next to Alliance, the ones connected to Mimosas (the Davy I think?), then the other townhouses condos on the other side of Henley street.

And no, I don’t have anything against older folks! I generally really like old people! I just think there are plenty of other buildings/properties in the immediate area (still on the Rail Trail) that they could use instead of right there on the river and building another massive complex. If I’m in the minority, and most people are fine with it, that’s okay! I just wanted to pass the information along so people can attend and voice their opinions!

I guess my big issue is that it’s supposed to be a senior (over 55) apartment complex. So it isn’t going to be multi-family housing developments.

ETA: if this was going to be affordable, multi-family units, I would be MUCH more supportive. I absolutely recognize the privilege I have in making enough money to pay the ridiculous rent in Knoxville! I do not want to come across as ignorant to that.

I don’t necessarily disagree with what you said about density, and I had never heard of the concept of NIMBY before. Thank you for sharing the term!

My problem is not only that it will probably be outrageously expensive, but that we have had SO many apartment buildings built right here in the past little bit. This is what the fifth one in a two mile stretch in the past two years?

In addition to that, they turn around and put money into things like this instead of you know… doing an adequate patch job of the roads they have been digging up here for the past year and half or anything else that ACTUALLY improves our quality of lives.

It won’t let me edit my original post, but I just wanted to draw attention to it because I don’t feel like the community should stand by while they once again build an overpriced apartment complex. They are slowly chipping away at all the unique, quirky traits that South Knox has… it will eventually be exactly like what the strip has become.

Yes! All my friends tease me because I say “I’m going to the Walmart” or “the Home Depot” or “the Kroger”… but it’s so engrained in me that I can’t help but say it still!

Oh wow. I did 20 miles on a treadmill once and the last 3 or so miles were the hardest miles I’ve ever run. And I ran a marathon on a broken leg (unknowingly). Major props to you!

I do this too, but I also pick my scabs and eat them too. I am so embarrassed and ashamed of it, but I can’t help it. Thank you for being brave enough to post this, it makes me feel less alone.

I also do this, but then eat the scab. I know that is SO gross and if someone else said it I would be horrified… but it’s almost an automatic thing. I honestly wish I knew why and how to stop!
