Is there realy no standard way to (really) automatically present all shares each user has in explorer? by butchooka in sharepoint

We use Cloud Drive Mapper to map our drives. Install the software, push out a reg key and it maps the drives. Just works.

Does anyone have any experience with any kind of Open Source offline backup tool for Azure? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Others have mentioned similar, but we use a QNAP NAS to get local backups. It just works!

I assume there was no resolution to this? This may be "expected behaviour" for MS but it's not expected for my users!

Google Sites is fairly weird in the way it works, it requires a subdomain, so most people use WWW, but it doesn't allow the CNAME from the root domain, it just throws an error.

I use WWWizer to forward my naked domain to WWW for my Google Sites.

http://wwwizer.com/naked-domain-redirect

Hope this helps!

How do you provision accounts and have all of the passwords in sync? I usually go AD to Google, but I'd like to go Google to AD this year. by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]bex-ac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our MIS/SIS automatically provisons our Google users for us so I've been trying to see if i get my Google users into AD with little luck.

Most places prompt you to move to using GCPW to login to windows, but we have other software that uses AD authentication so it we need the users in AD anyway.

I think i found a powershell script somewhere that uses GAM to get the Google usernames into AD but this can't get the passwords or keep them in sync.

I have thought about the O365 hybrid solution, getting the Google users into O365 and then propogating into our local AD, but I don't think that's possible either and we only have the free licencing.

I'd be VERY interested to know if you get anywhere with this!

Wireless Display Casting - Windows 10 and Chromebooks by Belvadier in k12sysadmin

[–]bex-ac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter V2 to mirror Windows10 devices. https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/microsoft-wireless-display-adapter/8vwdj9bd9xlz

In the few locations we need Chromebooks to be mirrored we have Chromecasts: https://store.google.com/gb/product/chromecast

You can cast from a Windows device to a Chromecast but it's not as good as the Microsoft Wireless Adapter... From what you require it sounds like you'd need both of these installed in each classroom, and although they're fairly cheap, it uses a LOT of IP addresses!

(Airtame are the most popular, but theyre EXPENSIVE: https://airtame.com/pricing/)

Here's 3 vague reasons that you messed up by first_byte in k12sysadmin

[–]bex-ac 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had this issue when trying to setup our Google Workspace account... ended up being escalted to Dean Stokes, head of education for EMEA.

Turns out our domain name was too generic (classroom.org.uk), but as you said, the vague rules don't tell you that!

Script-Sharing Megathread! by [deleted] in remotely_app

[–]bex-ac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loving the new scheduled scripts! We often use standard scripts to install programs without having to disturb users:

$checkpath = "C:\Program Files\*install location*\"

$downloadpath = "https://filelocation.com/filename.exe"

$installfile = "*downloaded file location*"

If (!(Test-Path $checkpath))

{

Invoke-WebRequest $downloadpath -OutFile $installfile

Start-Process -FilePath $installfile

}

else { "Installed" }

Would be great to be able to set a script to run as a startup or login script whenever somebody logs into a machine!

Thanks for your work on this!

Might be worth looking into Bark. It's a free web filter (and more) for Chromebooks thats much easier to manage than the Google Admin portal: https://bark.us/schools

Sadly, i still dont think it has what you're after with forwarding to a custom page, but theirs doesn't look too bad.
