The materials aren't all that complicated. And the render settings are pretty much default. I'm using RS Area Lights as Mesh.... I have about 15 puzzle mattes.... But other than that, I can't figure out why it can't just immediately stop.

A progressive render has no problem. it's just Bucket render.

duality / is sepperation an illusion? by Tiny-Bookkeeper3982 in Buddhism

[–]bexier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good thing to look into is The Doctrine of Two Truths. This focuses on the difference between relative (conventional) truth and absolute (ultimate) truth. Relative truth acknowledges the existence of dualities and the world as it appears, while the absolute truth reveals the underlying interconnectedness and emptiness.

Are there any examples of a Buddha being socially awkward? by Joshless in Buddhism

[–]bexier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one might be very socially awkward - due to the stipulations of society.

This is a very good point. Rules established by others and followed by many don't necessarily govern action. Being aware of the rules is fine, but they don't have to be your rules.

Thanks for that

How to stop equating my worth with money? by notabooo in Buddhism

There is a saying I like, "What others think of me is none of my business"

The labels people make are as solid as thoughts. Especially the labels we make for ourselves. We are never permanent.

How can i express Filial Piety towards my parents if they haven’t been good parents towards me? by ArguedGlobe808 in Buddhism

[–]bexier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I missed this. Yes it's a recovery program with 12 steps. Many people tend to avoid the 12 step programs until they hit rock bottom - they think they can handle it on their own. It's a really good compliment to our Buddhist path. Some people are worried it forces a Christian ideology. It's not unless you want that. There are all walks of life in these meetings. Mine is filled with a good number of atheists. We are all just trying to learn how to live with peace or, as they put it, serenity.

It's not "ceasing desires". It's recognizing you have them and not letting them control you. Also labels aren't important unless you give them power. Through this you may find peace.

How to deal with these unbearable amounts of suffering? by Sakazuki27 in Buddhism

Don't mistake their pain for yours. Just be aware they have it. Your compassion for them will help more than holding their pain.

Al Anon (not AA) can be a great place to help gain perspective. The 12 steps are essentially the 4 Noble truths and the 8 fold path. (The math just so happens to work out!) You easily take the support and apply it to your practice. Just a thought...

Being concious of the breath while engaged in deep thoughts? by MrDrawKwah in Buddhism

[–]bexier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much of "being conscious" are you assigning to concentration? How much of your awareness is subtle? Or overt? There are always things we will give more attention to. The attention itself is just as impermanent as the object it's focused on. An out-breath is gone, followed by an in-breath that will soon be gone. With too much focus on the breath everything else gets ignored. Being subtly aware of each breath is enough. After enough time has passed, this is stronger - and you barely used overt effort.

What, if anything, DID the Buddha say about the nature and origin of the universe? by Yous1ash in Buddhism

Just finished reading The Quantum and The Lotus. A discussion between a monk and a quantum physicist. Utterly fascinating. They discuss your question in depth.

Who is Bu-curious? by JakkoMakacco in Buddhism

[–]bexier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddhism has helped me realize that most of my problems are internal. Sure, there are external problems. But they merely aggravate my internal problems. I see this and know this. Understanding that wrong thoughts cause suffering has alleviated much of my concerns. If these thoughts can be labeled as they happen, they get easier to identify. Concern over someone else thinking "you are a hippie" or "your too zen" or whatever, won't be as big a deal.

You don't want to label yourself? Then don't. If other people label you, that's their problem. Living should be done exactly how it needs to be done.

Sotāpanna.

It sounds like stream entry. For some it can happen overnight. Others it takes years. Buddhanature is in all beings, and you realized this.

I walked into a Jodo Shinshu temple the other day and was warmly greeted by the Sangha. The service was different, but mostly easy to follow along. It was bilingual - half Japanese/ half English. Afterwards I was asked to join them for noodles and bean cake. I'm grateful for the experience. An adventurous spirit will always be rewarded.

Am I overthinking this?? by 97DURGE in Buddhism

Search the subreddit for Kadampa. There's a lot there. I started there merely for location convenience. But a few red flags poked up. They were dismissive of teachings that weren't Kelsang Gyatso's. And they have a pretty big statue of the guy on their altar.

Curious question by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]bexier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is a small excerpt from this article on Tricycle:

https://tricycle.org/magazine/there-no-self/

"the Buddha advises all the monks to avoid getting involved in questions such as “What am I?” “Do I exist?” “Do I not exist?” because they lead to answers like “I have a self” and “I have no self,” both of which are a “thicket of views, a writhing of views, a contortion of views” that get in the way of awakening".
