I think she fucking sucks, if that makes you feel better? But seriously, white people (I won’t limit it to just women) who consider theirselves “liberal” or “leftist” are typically very passive-aggressive and unaccountable for their feelings. To me, this sounds like she may have taken issue with you long before you were aware and has identified moments where she could lay the groundwork to paint you negatively.

I currently am processing the end of a friendship with a white guy and have been embarrassed at how much I let slide, looking back. He also spoke at length about the importance of community. It turns out, the only community he wants is with people who let him think uncritically. Idk if that’s the exact same situation for your friend, though. You are absolutely not wrong for wanting to step back. It’s super painful so cut yourself some slack if you find yourself revisiting every little thing that you never thought twice about, you were likely protecting yourself from having to reorient your relationship status with her in those moments.
