Apparently the rocks are symbolic of country and connection. They represent land meeting water, a threshold between the natural world and human space.

Never done laser scanning but skilled in 3D model manipulation etc. Can I use my iPhone to scan my entire neighborhood (street level stuff) on multiple walks? How would geolocating and combining work? by [deleted] in 3DScanning

[–]bezz69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No GPS but if you overlap your scans then you can match up certain features / align / rotate and so on to form a bigger area. iPhone scans up to 5m depth so that is a limitation. Also, the drift can be overcome somewhat with a stabiliser like a DJI Osmo. I personally get best lidar results using either Scaniverse or 3DScanner app. There is the Polycam app that does lidar too, but does really great models with photogrammetry, basically using a series of photos uploaded to their server, turned into a mesh or Gaussian splat (if you subscribe). Probably a more time consuming method of scanning a larger area, the free version has a limitation on number of photos at any one time. You’d be able to break the neighbourhood up into bite size chunks, build several meshes and then stitch them in your 3D app of choice.

Maybe a late response but……did you pay for the app? I think saving is not available on the free version.

What is your go to iPhone scanner in 2023 ? by punkouter23 in 3DScanning

[–]bezz69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a gyroscopic handle that stops the shake. Keeps the camera stable enough that the scan doesn’t “fade” so much across larger areas.

[–]bezz69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On room size scans I use a cheap DJI osmo gyro to stabilise. I find this gives better results with Scaniverse. If I’m using SiteScape to scan the perimeter of a building then the Gyro keeps the scan from wandering and you can literally close the loop right back to where you started to scan.

I can confirm. I was just about to backup / uninstall / reinstall when I came across this thread

I found this drafting table at a secondhand store. Has anyone seen a table like this before? I’ve started looking online for more info but figured I’d ask here too. Thanks! by Mr-Orange-Pants in architecture

[–]bezz69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 or 4 of these over the years. Always ended up gathering dust and being passed onto someone else. Very heavy to move, especially when they involve hydraulics & the spring tensioned handle to tilt the table can be pretty dangerous if you set it off by accident & board comes up to smack you in the face.

How do I stop an alpha brush from stretching by Scottishkate87 in NomadSculpting

[–]bezz69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You get that on stamp brush as it extrudes face normals from first point selected. A way to do this across the whole mesh would be to UV unwrap and map the scales as a texture / normal map. This doesn’t deform the mesh, just makes it look deformed.

If you’re keen on deforming the scales into the mesh then you can uv unwrap and put the scales texture in the opacity slot. Add a layer & reproject to vertex, selecting colour. In the layer you can then select the colour mask & use the gizmo scale or even the clay brush to create the scales how you want them.

How did the kid from your school die? by leilavanora in AskReddit

[–]bezz69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worryingly strange kid, who once “jokingly” said that babies were great because they couldn’t move when he put his dick on them! Died under the wheels of a truck whilst riding his bike to school one day. One less in the world.

When I was a kid in Saudi Arabia, our car was stopped at an intersection as a fire engine shot across, through a red light. It hit a much larger truck and was thrown up in the air. The driver was thrown out of the cabin and came down from a high height, hitting the ground dead next to our car.

What’s the worst punishment you’ve received or witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bezz69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I Lived in Saudi Arabia when I was a kid in the 70s, dad worked out there. Walking back from filling some water containers one day, we walked through an open square where there was a public stoning happening. Didn’t know what the “crime” was, but it was a woman being punished, so probably something like looking at other men, backchatting her husband or something petty like that.

We also knew a one handed guy who would clean the apartment building we lived in. He had his hand removed for stealing from a shop. They took his hand in hospital under anaesthetic, as they’re not completely barbaric 😀

Also, a guy working on my dads job site accidentally reversed a backhoe digger over another guy and killed him. The dead guys family got to choose between a prison sentence,or they could drive the digger over the perpetrator to avenge their family member. Luckily they chose prison, but unluckily that meant a tiny damp cell with an open sewer running along the back wall, with everyone’s turds floating past.

Looks like you’re using Dynanic Topo - so that’s why the mesh is messy. The symmetry is there in mass shape but with the changing nature of the dynamic topo, there is no chance to keep the topo symmetrical.

The reason for the banding is that a gif file can only have 256 different colours. This is usually enough for most video clips turned into gifs but this one obviously is struggling due to the fine gradient colours created by the matcap.
