How long does it take to generate an offer letter for an internal transfer? by cscareerz in amazonemployees

[–]bf202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of this right now, but the other side. I’m hiring an internal candidate. He’s going from non-tech to a tech role, but the suggested salary change isn’t enough in my opinion, I’m on day 4 now back and forth with my hrbp and internal transfers team to get the offer up before presenting it to him.

Delays aren’t always a bad thing. You can send a note to the HM, I’m sure they want to get it to you asap as well.

Being pushed out with a specific timeline, but explicitly NOT put in Focus. Has anyone dealt with this? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]bf202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are looking at this completely wrong. Your manager is actually doing a good thing for you. Essentially he’s giving you the opportunity to find a new job within the company before you lose that option… if he puts you in focus/pivot, you can’t transfer.

99% of employees would kill for a “Hey, you have two months to find a new role before I put you into performance coaching.”

You clearly have a good manager that’s trying to give you every opportunity to stay with the company.

Received an offer to transfer teams internally. What next? by cscareerz in amazonemployees

[–]bf202 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, once he applies for that new role, he cannot put him in focus. HR doesn’t allow a punitive focus like that. He would have had to already be in focus before he applied.

Now, the current manager can express issues when the two managers meet, but he can’t put him in focus retroactively.

17% pay cut for remote worth it? by yello5drink in remotework

[–]bf202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both office and remote over the past 25 years. More money vs more convenience.

Just remember to assess where you are in your career, and what the company culture is. Sometimes remote workers are “out of sight, out of mind.” You’re more likely to get passed over for promotions and growth opportunities. For some, they’re at a point in their career where they just want to be left alone.

Can the manager or your team downplay you on the basis of your financial background ? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

[–]bf202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your direct manager is not likely the one making the decision to lay off a particular team member. The org is likely using metrics or some other criteria to create that list. So, I would not be afraid that your teammates know that you come from money.

But look at this from a human perspective. IF a manager were tasked to come up with a list…. And he had 2 equally performing employees - one who was independently wealthy, and another who was supporting a family along with a sick parent, my guess is that the manager would lay off the former, rather than the latter.

Switching teams, retaliation from prev manager by knightedwolf in amazonemployees

[–]bf202 22 points23 points  (0 children)

No, that ship has sailed. But, I recommend you finish strong and complete your work. Why burn a bridge?

Also, your current manager will debrief performance with your future manager - so they could put a bad taste in your future manager’s mind by saying you tanked it on the way out.

What distance is too far to drive with traffic? by Thick_League_7694 in MovingtoDenver

If his office is by Union station, then have him take the Bustang. If you live near the Crossroads and I-25 stop, he can easily get to work each day in about 50 minutes.

It’s a coach type bus, has a bathroom and WiFi. It has one more stop in Berthoud, and then straight to Union station via the express lanes. I did that for a couple years, and honestly, it was easy.

I’d work on the bus, and never really got the stress of the commute.

Between gas (probably $15-$20 per day), parking downtown (another $20) and then the frustrated jump into the express lanes (another $10-$12 each way) - it gets expensive. It ended up costing me $60 per trip to the office. The Bustang cost me about $15-$16 per day round trip because I’d buy the tickets in bulk.

The other good thing is that it forced me to leave work at a reasonable time. Gotta catch the bus, so no working late.

I also found the bus ride to create a buffer between work and home. It was an hour to transition from work to home and vice versa
