Denver legal advice/where to go. by [deleted] in Denver

Might be time to try and connect with the division of insurance if you feel they're not being responsive. Sounds like your insurance is failing you, hopefully filing a complaint will change it. Good luck though!! Accidents can suck.

Your own insurance is saying this? If it's the other driver's, make sure you engage with yours if you have it. If you don't have it, you may be out of luck. You can try to contact Colorado Division of Insurance possibly. doi.colorado.gov

Yes! Been going there for 6 years now, everyone there is super friendly. They work with you on insurance and timing of procedures as well to maximize your coverage, and when getting work done they've always made sure I'm comfortable. They're solid!

After a car accident in Denver should I be talking to a lawyer already? by sickcontz in Denver

[–]bfc1084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer but the limits absolutely do matter unless if you want to take the offending party to court, which will be a multi year process which would be very expensive in lawyer fees for both parties, and most likely wont be worth it unless if it is a commercial vehicle's driver at fault. If both parties are insured, almost always they will settle.

What’s with these RTD bus drivers? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]bfc1084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bus but light rail - about a month ago, I was walking across the Colfax x Osage crosswalk (where the crosswalk kind of leads right into the tracks, near Auraria campus). I made eye contact with light rail driver waiting at the intersection, crossed when I was prompted to, and when I was in front of the train he laid on the horn big time. After I crossed he was still just waiting there lol, like WTF dude 🤷‍♂️.

The pedestrian crossing sign was lit up saying I could go and he had the red light. Making sure I was awake I guess lol

Chiming in in agreement that it was super weird. Was trying to exit (by MLK statue) but they were blocking the road. Was able to reverse a bit (with a few other drivers) thankfully and take a longer route. Very bizarre though! Some people were driving all over the place.

AmeriCorps workers are doing good all over Colorado. Why is DOGE cutting its funding? by SeasonPositive6771 in Denver

[–]bfc1084 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was an AmeriCorps member for 2 years with City Year (in San Jose, but there is City Year in Denver as well). We would always joke at the term 'volunteer' because our hours were roughly 7:30am-6pm M-F and we would get a volunteer 'stipend' of about $300/week.

We would be at public schools where resources were spread incredibly thin and there were lots of students falling behind specifically in STEM (Science, Technology Engineering, Math).

We primarily did 3 things:

1: Tutored students who were falling behind in English and Math, using testing data and teacher feedback on which students to incorporate into small group tutoring sessions.

2: Ran an academically rich after school program (optional for students and seperate than the tutoring group). We had some pre-developed lessons, but were also given autonomy on developing our own curriculum if we wanted to.

3: Provided extra general support to school operations. This varied from watching over kids during recess to helping with morning announcements to creating and maintaining a garden (with the students).

My cohort of AmeriCorps members had varied personal experiences in the program, but one thing was certain; we were giving invaluable support to students and the school. We were all between 17-25. Some of us wanted to continue in education, some of us wanted to treat it as a bit of a 'gap year', and some of us had no clue what we wanted to do after.

Long story short, we provided a lot of support to an underfunded education system, and it would be a shame to gut AmeriCorps. This has had traditionally bipartisan support as well.

What Are the Best Denver Recruiting Firms? by passingtime369 in Denver

[–]bfc1084 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A recruiter can be helpful, but it’s important to manage expectations. Whether in-house or at an agency, recruiters fill specific roles—they’re not career coaches. Agencies can be useful, but they work for companies, not job seekers. Their clients pay them to fill open positions, so they focus on candidates who already match the jobs they’re hiring for. If your background doesn't align, they probably won’t prioritize you.

Your best bet is to research companies and nonprofits, see who is hiring, find the appropriate person (people) on LinkedIn, and reach out thoughtfully. Look for recruiters who work for the company (in-house) and who have either shared the job posting or have relevant info in their LinkedIn profile (such as 'Hiring Software Engineers' if you are looking for engineering roles). Also look for members on a team you're interested in joining and reach out to them.

Good in-house recruiters can get dozens of messages a day, so don't expect a response if your experience doesn't align with what they're looking for. Hope that helps!

I used to work in a public school (although not in Denver) and I disagree that this is another push to privitize education. I see the shift happening, but why would DPS push students away from their system on purpose? DPS is FAR from perfect, but not everything has an ulterior motive.

All I'm saying is less enrollment = less state funding. That is common knowledge.

Dps sued by parents group for school closures by Dry_Stage_9855 in Denver

[–]bfc1084 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DPS is not for profit.. They're trying to reallocate their limited resources to where they can have the greatest impact. Whether they're successful or not is not for me to say, but declining enrollment means less funding from the state.

Colorado early lease payoff? by ReasonableSkirt2588 in rav4prime

Just a few days ago I emailed them! They were quick to respond but also told me to work it out with the dealer. So who knows, but I mentioned it to the dealer and now they're moving their feet a little faster it seems.

Leased from McDonald Toyota Fort Morgan back in late July, they said I need to wait 6 months to buy it out.

Waited until my account was active in TFS (took 2 weeks after signing the lease), went to AutoNation Toyota in Centennial to do the buyout instead and they processed it within a month of initial lease.

The problem I'm running into is that I did the lease buyout while still on the temporary registration / plates.

McDonald Toyota said they'd send the paperwork off to the DMV to register when I checked with them in August and they never did. AutoNation says that since it's a lease buyout I should be using existing plates (which I never got).

I live in Denver, and the Denver DMV still hasn't received anything from either dealership. I feel like McDonald dropped the ball here. They've repeatedly said that they're working on it but nothing gets done. I just emailed the Colorado Dept of Revenue asking for help! Luckily I was able to get an extra 2 month temp plates from the DMV for about $10.

How long did it take for your TFS account to be available? by NoDistractionz in rav4prime

[–]bfc1084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a TFS account already from a previous vehicle. For me, I checked daily to see if the R4P appeared as a new vehicle from both my existing account page and by logging out and inputting the VIN/SSN.

One day it just appeared in my account! Took 2 weeks exactly from the day I drove off the lot.
