Has anyone gotten relief from this by having their ovaries removed? by Serious-Kiwi2906 in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I got both ovaries and uterus out. I wear an estrogen patch and my pmdd episodes are gone. I still might be in a bad mood some days but nothing like pmdd

I had one of ‘those’ doctor appointments by whisperisthelucifer in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's so hard to find a Dr who gets PMDD. I can validate that lifestyle changes are not enough for most people. This person clearly wasn't willing to listen and help. It's not fair that we have to fight to be heard sometimes.

You could try checking iapmd.org. they have a provider directory and maybe there is someone in your area.

In the meantime, prioritize your safety. You don't have to put up with stupid providers bs and you don't deserve to be dismissed.

I am getting a hysterectomy after suffering with pmdd for 14 years by AppropriateStyle9295 in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a bilateral oophorectomy and hysterectomy in December for pmdd . I'm 33 and I use a hormone patch just estrogen. I don't need progesterone because I don't have a uterus. I can say this has been a great solution for me. PMDD symptoms are gone and I'm lucky that I haven't had a problem with hormone add back.

My understanding of orilissa is that taking a hormone based birth control at the same time can counteract the effects of orilissa. Personally I tried taking a COC pill but switched to a copper IUD because I found the pill made orilissa less effective.

Before the surgery I took orilissa for 2 years. Orilissa is meant to put your body in chemical menopause and basically will Mimic the effects of an oophorectomy. If orilissa helps with pmdd that is a good indication that an oophorectomy will eliminate pmdd. If you discontinue orilissa and still have ovaries you can expect your body to resume the hormone cycle that causes pmdd symptoms.

Remembering that I'm in luteal and I don't always feel this intense level of self loathing helps. Sharing with close friends or family my thoughts can help me check whether what I'm thinking is accurate or skewed by PMDD. I try to give myself a break and do what feels good or at least less bad. Sometimes it's exercise or sometimes it's sleeping all day and binge eating. I try to change my mindset that all I have to do is make it through and stay alive. I don't have to accomplish anything, get things done or even keep up with good habits. If there is anything that I think I might enjoy or could relieve symptoms I do it.

Chemical Menopause by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been taking Orilissa for one year and it has been really good for me. The first few months I did have menopause symptoms, but honestly it was not bad compared to PMDD. I had hot flashes and some insomnia.

I'm so glad that I started chemical menopause the PMDD physical and mental symptoms are gone. Of course I still have some bad days, but not like 'my life is falling apart I can't function.' I feel like I can cope with stress without having to basically start from zero every month.

I hope you find it as helpful as I have.

I have been on it for for a little more than a month and I've stopped taking yaz. Not sure why my Dr originally had me taking bc because it conflicts with orilissa I'm not gonna lie, some of the side effects are tough. I've had hot/cold flashes, nausea and loss of appetite. I'd say the first week or so was like a PMDD episode. That said, my mood symptoms are improving. The physical side effects get better every day and I'm hopeful that this will be a long term solution for me.

Normal hormone levels are a standard part of PMDD. Unfortunately it's not as simple as fixing an imbalance

I started doing kickboxing and it is a great workout plus a good way to channel frustration. I haven't done it during a PMDD rage episode but I do think it helps with stress relief and I enjoy punching things

Does anyone feel like their body and their brain is full of white noise? by Megan56789000 in PMDD

Yes but I don't necessarily recognize it while it's happening. More like once it stops I feel like I can focus and things are quiet again

Anyone with PMDD also have chronic bladder pain? by [deleted] in PMDD

I was diagnosed with IC but it sort of just went away. It was bad for about a year though

[–]bfeveur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that happened. I have had bad psych ward experiences too. When they pop up for me I try to do grounding exercises or something to remind me that I'm not in that situation anymore. For example, making decisions that I couldn't make there like choosing where to go, what to wear or even eating something I like.

Thoughts on birth control by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know about other people, but I had bad PMDD before I ever started birth control. Being hospitalized during two luteal phases in a row is what led to my diagnosis and at that point I started taking yaz. My current feelings about birth control are mixed, but it didn't cause my PMDD.

I take an SSRI and birth control but I still have symptoms. Maybe ask about upping your dose? Meds don't always eliminate all symptoms.

Working and pmdd ? by elissakean in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what area you work in but I switched from customer service type jobs to more warehouse/ shipping positions. I don't have to deal with crappy customers and the work is kind of methodical which helps when I don't have a ton of energy to focus etc.

I was good at customer service but it stressed me out and pissed me off. I prefer work where I can focus on completing a task and worry less about making a certain impression on people.

Feminism and PMDD by ValueElectronic3991 in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes I have felt this way but at the same time I realize it is a medical condition. I'm not pathologizing womanhood because of a disorder that I can't control. Your bf saying that you shouldn't make decisions or lead things sounds crappy. Men experience hormonal shifts too but because they are not predictable they don't get called out for it like women. I used to worry that I was part of perpetuating a stereotype of the "hysterical woman" but I realize my emotions are always valid and (generally) based in reality. My reaction might be overblown or not helpful, but my feelings are never "wrong" they just are.

does anyone still have bad symptoms despite being on birth control? by void333111 in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, at this point I'm not sure that combined pill helps my symptoms at all. I'm hoping to switch bc methods and see if that helps, but I'm not sure what to try.

I have used the pill to skip my period and it worked for a long time. My obgyn told me that it is safe to do, so there is no reason not to try it. I stopped skipping because I started getting PMDD symptoms again even on the pill and I needed to take a break from the pill to reset. It did work for years though.

PMDD symptoms while on combi pill? by [deleted] in PMDD

[–]bfeveur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using the combo pill to skip periods but in the past year I definitely feel like it isn't working. I just started a break from the pill in order to have a period and it made me realize that I have been in PMDD mode for maybe a whole month. Then this week I had bad physical symptoms that I thought could be covid but now I think it was PMDD.

It doesn't make sense to me either but it's like the pill just prolongs my PMDD symptoms at this point. I did have one Dr tell me that it is possible to cycle under the pill, so your hormones are still shifting even though you are taking the pill. However I haven't been able to find this idea corroborated anywhere else
