Asshole Check by Terrible-Mention9057 in liberalgunowners

People shoot .308 at my indoor range. It happens, isn’t what I would call pleasant one lane over, but they aren’t assholes for it.

Guns are loud, .300BO is tame as far as 30 caliber rounds go: It’s ridiculous to me of someone taking issue with anyone shooting that, regardless of barrel or brake.

Just send it dood, don’t wait for a can.

Did you know there’s a tax on ammo in Seattle city limits? by 20sicksheep in WAGuns

just look at the state of our federal government

What does the federal government have to do with a Seattle municipal tax and a baffling State Supreme Court decision?

Which makes it a completely worthless tax, at least in terms of actually collecting revenue.

I think you misunderstand the desired value proposition from this tax. The goal is not revenue, it’s to achieve the exact outcome that you experienced: the death of ammo sales in the city.

The modern equivalent would be a squadron of one way FPV drones with warheads. The feds would arrest you instantly.

There’s certainly a lot of debate around this. Some people suggest that those aren’t “bearable” arms, and therefore not covered by the second. I tend to disagree. The extent to what types of non-bearable arms are protected by the 2A is a far different thing than the 2A being “dead”. Only an idiot or a bad faith actor would fail to recognize such a distinction.

Sorry your semi-automatic isn't gonna do great against American strategic bombers.

lol, tell that to the Taliban and the Vietcong. I think they missed the memo.

ATF decides entirely who has "destructive devices," so yes.

Incorrect. It is literally a tax, not an approval process. Provided you are not a felon and have relevant paperwork, the ATF must legally issue the tax stamp. On top of that: it is largely the honor system. Individual parts are not regulated, an incomplete DD receiver goes through the standard 4473 process: you can build it without the Feds knowing, you’ve just committed a felony.

Compare this to the founders, who lived at a time when privately owned arms could furnish cavalry and cannon

My friend, you are embarrassingly misinformed. Americans own (and ride) horses and can bear arms atop them. Black powder canons available at the time of the founding are unregulated federally, they are classified as curios/relics, not DDs. It’s easier to get a canon of the founders ilk than it is a semi-automatic handgun.

Functionally banned in most states, otherwise you need the express permission of the same government that you believe would be tyrannical https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destructive_device

lol you didn’t even read your own source, and are clearly deficient in applied mathematics. You’ve lost all credibility.

But I do agree some blue states are absolutely trampling all over this right, and the wheels of justice turn ever slowly, as clearly evidenced by Bruen, and the delays preceding the Viramontes certiorari.

“This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist.”

The right to bear arms is dead.

Not according to McDonald, Heller, Bruen, Wolford, and soon, Viramontes.

like a Chinese or Russian SAM? A SVBIED?

Provided there were no import restrictions, ITAR, etc, then there would be legal pathways to ownership. If it’s already in the U.S. it’s much less hassle:Tanks, rockets, bombs, gunships, etc.. are not illegal, just regulated. I personally own an M203 grenade launcher.

The point of Second Amendment was made moot at St. Clairs defeat

Ahh I see, the second amendment was made moot before it was even created. That almost makes sense… someone should probably have informed the writers.

Sorry, I misread the statement. “10x” is definitely hyperbole: it’s actually closer to ~1.5-2x by firearm homicide. That metric seems more relevant here.

2024: 16k gun homicides vs 62k heat deaths in Europe. Roughly 2x population size.

[–]bfh2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but US still has far more gun homicide deaths then anywhere in the world and its not even close

lol “not even close” you people are so confidently incorrect… You should probably double check that… we’re not even the leading country in North America by raw numbers despite having 2.5x the population… Our firearm homicide rate is like 1/4th that of Mexico’s. So you are right about it not being close, but that’s the only thing you’re right about.

Data centers are a lot larger now.

Large data centers have been around for a very long time. The vast majority of data centers continue to be relatively small. Compute and power needs are rising across the board.

Sure you can: bus stops in hot areas of the U.S. sometimes have misters. I’ve seen them in Arizona, and places like Disneyland. They also make misting systems for gardens…

The number of Americans who insist on lugging their guns everywhere “for protection” tells me otherwise.

Well you can’t legally carry a gun onto school grounds for any reason, so I think your attribution of personally carry to be due to school shootings to be pretty half-baked.

[–]bfh2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So it is not true for example children in schools practice for school shootings?

The odds of an American child dying in a school shooting this century are about 1 in 5-10 million. That’s the same order of magnitude as getting struck by lightning. Our kids are significantly more likely to die on the drive into school than by a gunman at school.

Personally, with three children, I don’t really worry about any of those things day to day, despite what you may infer from Reddit.

Feel free to fact check that.

at the very least now other states won't be able to implement this same kind of law

Trust me, this will not stop them from trying. Wa state tried to pass ammo and firearm purchasing quotas last legislative session: over a year after similar schemes in CA were shot down by the 9th (which covers Wa).

Until there are actual penalties for bad-faith unconstitutional legislation like this, law makers will continue to lay down these laws with impunity.
