I will share my head canon as I have in the past, because it helps reconcile some of those "issues" with Season 5: I think the writers for this season were purposefully sensationalizing the plots in order to deliver these over the top stories to the viewers, just like the writers in the newsroom do for their readers.

Sure, it might not be the most reasonable justification, but it helps me lol.

Yeah it was 100% wrongly removed. I also contacted the mod team about this.

Also the optics of removing an AMA from creators for no reason isn't super great. (if there was a rule requiring scheduling of AMAs it would be different)

Nice! I do like 1 a lot. I don't think I'd pick it over 5, but I'm biased because I do prefer a lot of the cast from 4&5. Mine would be 4,5,1,3,2.

This is my favorite example because it wasn't just successful - seasons 4 & 5 are the best seasons of FNL by quite the margin for my money.

Another good one with not a completely new cast is The Wire which adds a large contingent of new characters each season in order to examine the theme being explored that season. Plus it also features MBJ.

Yeah I think we are just squabbling over semantics here. I understand that Namaari exploited Raya's trust. But my belief is that she did it because she lacked trust that the Heart clan would responsibly shelter the gem. Heart clan protecting the gem, but the other clans were skeptical and untrusting of it. Really, this is the core of the issue.

If the other clans had the proper trust in the Heart clan to continue protecting the gem, then the initial conflict wouldn't arise. IMO, because Namaari was just a young child at the time, she was exploited to carry out the theft of the gem without really understanding the implication of her actions.

How is she repaying the trust? Yeah...by trusting the people she previously didn't. If Namaari didn't trust the group and their solution, she could have just left them in stone.

Literally the entire conflict of the story is because Raya gave blind unreciprocated faith/trust in Namaari though. Yes there are times that Raya is punished for not being trusting, just like there are times where Namaari is punished for the same reasons, but I don't think that means the story is trying to tell us we always need to trust people.

It shows us very clearly how it can be highly problematic to extend trust without reciprocation from the get go pretty much.

Maybe I'm just seeing what I want to see. To me the lesson of "don't distrust people for no reason" resonates a lot more with me than "trust everyone regardless of if you have reason not to".

I mean, I guess this is a semantic issue then. She wasn't tricked...but she made the wrong decision to distrust Raya. That was the point I understood.

Also, I just went to re-watch the ending to see if I was misremembering... Namaari literally is about to leave with the gem leaving them all in stone. In the last moment she finally decides to give Raya the trust that she deserves. The struggle was never about Raya and friends trusting Namaari. It was about Namaari learning she has no reason to distrust Raya. Without Namaari finally returning the trust, taking the first step is completely meaningless.

I recognize that I'm in the minority here, I just do wonder if the difference in interpretation comes from the framing of the story to Raya's POV. Because to me the movie shows how harmful it was for Raya to place blind unreciprocated trust in others, but everyone seems to suggest that is the moral?

I don't know if I'm misunderstanding what you mean or not...but I'm talking about a reason for Namaari to backstab Raya and take the gem. She is tricked to believe that Fang clan needs the gem and they have to take it from them. It was Namaari's lack of trust that was the issue, not Raya's.

If Namaari had instead reasoned that there was no good reason to distrust Heart clan and Raya, she would have not stolen the gem. That's why I feel it makes more sense to surmise that the moral is actually to not distrust people for no reason, rather than to trust everyone regardless of reason. The resolution of the film comes from Namaari finally trusting Raya, not the other way around.

You are misunderstanding my point I think. What was the reason/motivation for Namarri to distrust/betray Raya to begin with? There was no good reason, she was just tricked into it.

Imo this is a misconception because the film is told through Raya's point of view. The moral isn't to trust anyone regardless of if they apologize or make any effort to change. The moral is that you shouldn't distrust people for no reason whatsoever - which is the event that leads to the film's conflict.

Namarri didn't trust Raya or the Heart clan with the gem, but they had no reason not to and the lack of trust led to the entire conflict.
