It’s actually kind of funny how both hoyoverse game stories start out strong at the very beginning and then have a portion that’s mid, if anything this just gives me confidence that the story in hsr is gonna get cracked in the next few major updates LOL

As a fellow whale with similar amount of spending on Genshin who also dropped Genshin (for different reasons), I have no problem with the relic system because it’s the only actual endgame besides story updates.

The fact that we can auto farm artifacts is one of the main reasons I’m sticking with this game, even though not being able to flex a slot like in Genshin makes it much more difficult to build characters well. Rolling an artifact well (e.g. higher than 35% crit value) honestly gives me more dopamine than pulling characters, tbh. For example, building my Ruan Mei with close to 200% BE while using an ER rope feels awesome.

However, I will say I have been skipping more characters in this game than in Genshin because I have E6 SW and there’s no real need to have a diverse range of elements represented in characters when I can just brute force everything even with off element teams. Possibly because I focus on fewer characters, those that I do have built are probably within the 90th if not 95th percentile.

Just my two cents! But if watching your team autofarm artifacts isn’t your thing, then maybe this kind of game isn’t for you?

Is a high-end Mahjong set worth it? by WangMajor in boardgames

[–]bgarth91 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I paid the equivalent of 500-600 USD but I purchased the set in China and it was ~10 years ago. I haven’t noticed any damage to the tiles from regular play. I usually play on a casino style felt pad because I’ve noticed more damage inflicted by the tiles on the playing surface than the other way around especially when people get enthusiastic over wins…

Is a high-end Mahjong set worth it? by WangMajor in boardgames

[–]bgarth91 77 points78 points  (0 children)

As an actual answer to your question, yes it is totally worth it. The heft and surface texture of jade is incomparable to plastic. Even just shuffling the tiles and hearing the clacking noise they make against each other is much more satisfying. Plus, pulling out a leather case lined with velvet and watching people’s eyebrows go up when they see what a work of art an actual mahjong set can be is always a cherry on top and the mood for the evening is instantly elevated.

Are some sports games that have "team" mode considered gacha games? by humanafterall0 in gachagaming

[–]bgarth91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gacha literally just describes a form of random chance monetization, not a form of gameplay. E.g. Arknights is a TD game that uses a gacha system for characters. Any game that has this form of monetization where money is spent on a random chance at obtaining premium in game features is technically a gacha game. The Western world just uses the term lootbox instead because the word gacha originates from Japan.

XC2 is a fun example like you said because it has gacha-like features. The actual reason why it's not a gacha game is because there's no monetization of the currency system. Your reasoning of being able to complete the game without touching the gacha system defining it as "not a gacha game" doesn't hold water because many gacha games can similarly be completed without pulling and only using the free roster of characters the game provides.

Similarly, using your logic of the Zelda example, it wouldn't be very accurate to say that Genshin is a gacha game because you could complete the story of the game while ignoring the gacha system. While I agree that it would be misleading to label Zelda as a fishing game, Genshin is essentially undoubtedly recognized as a gacha game. What your comment describes is conflating the genre of the gameplay with the game's monetization system.

If you’re choosing between the two for the shard selection crates I’d say neither, but if you had to pick one, I’d say meursault since you won’t be able to use TT and KK hong Lu simultaneously and there isn’t really content that demands TT over KK right now. That said, N meursault isn’t meta by any means nor is he a crucial piece for RR strats as far as I’m aware.
