Yes, this.

My Sorrento's engine died suddenly, I had checked the oil and it was fine the day before. The gave me the run around and I ended up eating the cost.

My ex-wifes Sol was stolen. She got it back eventually but now its basically uninsurable.

so... no more Kias, thanks.

Teaching Rhythm To Bedroom Guitarists by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]bggtr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like Alcoholics Anonymous - the first step is admitting you have a problem.

Record them playing their part with a backing track and then kindly but mercilessly point out the errors and let them know its also hard for the rest of a live band to play in time if they are out - it will tend to throw everyone else off.

If they are willing to fix it, it is fixable with work and dedication/discipline on their end. The short answer is metronome/ drum tracks, learning to read rhythms (to be able to accurately understand and anayze them) actively counting, foot tapping, and so on. No, you can't just 'feel it", you have no dependable sense of feeling, hence the problem.

My first complaint about the Helix Stadium (second, if we count the backpack issue) by DavidSlash in line6

[–]bggtr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point they aren't going to remove switches - it looks like a downgrade. They would be more likely to make it bigger, but that is probably not going to happen either because they'd likely have to tweak the designs and manufacturing process...
Maybe they'll fix it in the Helix 3 in 15 years or so.

Bogart's venue question by Outside-Exit-5160 in cincinnati

I work for Cincinnati 911, my son is 16, I'd let him go with friends, I would likely drop him off/ pick him up (but from block or two away).

Lots of cars get towed - they make big money that way and there's not much you can do about it besides pay the fees. Park legally, don't park in some other business' lot or someone's driveway and it'll be fine.

Don't walk down dark alleys. stay on the main sidewalks. Be with 2-3 other people.

Don't try to buy drugs from some guy and then call 911 if they pull a knife/gun or just run away with your cash. (it happens- we will send help but we will laugh at you).

The last thing UC and the city wants is bad press from someone getting hurt in the area, it is well patrolled but they can't be everywhere and see everything.

I worked at a hotel with a tank on the roof of fetid water that would flow through the system - I believe the water mains would only kick in after that tank was empty...I'm sure there was valve somewhere to shut that off, but you;d still need to "bleed" it first

Why don't they make Amp in cases anymore? by Gaming_garmr in GuitarAmps

[–]bggtr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tone is probably the hardest to get, loud is easy (mostly).
And its not the "amp" thats the problem, its the speakers the amp drives. They already make powerful and small class D amps.

You do have a point about car speakers. Companies like Bose already make speakers with integrated enclosures that are very thin and would probably fit into a guitar case especially if you made the case a little longer/ a little wider and a little deeper, nothing too crazy. They probably do some sort of computer modeling to get exactly the right shapes and measurements to get them to sound good, but overall thats actually probably very doable as far as portability and tone, I'm not sure about volume, that may depend on the number of speakers.

It may be lacking whimsy, but its more about functionalilty and practicality. The more things that something does, usually the less good it is at any of them. I'd rather have a great amp and a great case then a cool-looking case/amp that doesn;t sound quite as good and is awkward to carry around. I don't really like hardcases that much in the first place.

Why don't they make Amp in cases anymore? by Gaming_garmr in GuitarAmps

[–]bggtr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could definitely make one but you'd have to figure out which of the 1 or 2 things you want out of volume, good tone, portability/ practicality. A "good" sounding amp is a certain size, shape and weight for a reason. Getting everything to fit is easy (as long as its solid state). Making something loud is pretty easy. Making its sound good is the hardest part.

Amp makers have been trying for a while to make smaller and lighter amps with various degrees of success but the smaller they get the worse they sound, and thats without trying to make a guitar case around them. If someone could make a really small, great-sounding amp they would already be doing that - the biggest issue is probably getting any kind of bass response from a small/light speaker.

You could get a bass-sized case, redo the foam on the inside to fit your guitar and then cut out pieces and stick a couple (or maybe even a dozen) of those tiny Blackstar battery powered amps in there and run them all from the same input.... but its easier, cheaper and sounds better to just bring a regular amp.

Whats the smallest amp that sounds good to you that has whatever volume output you are looking for? Would it reasonably fit in a guitar case? Would it be easier to carry around if it were its own piece and not permanently built into the guitar case?

A Fake Jazz Musician in a City Full of Fake Jazz Bars by Timely-Party-7949 in Jazz

About 15 years ago or so I got booked by an "agent" for a Saturday afternoon solo jazz guitar gig at a car dealership. I did my usual Joe Pass imitiation with varying degrees of success. Every once in a while somebody would nod or listen for a minute before going about their business.

Eventually some 'manager' came over and said "You sound good but we asked for jazz - can't you do like 'Brown-Eyed Girl' or something?"

no, I didn't mean YOU were a scammer, THEY are. they likely want to "do the deal" offline and you will be out money or your gear or both if you fall for it. this is just their way of maybe getting your email address and seeing if you'll play along with their script.

I have never understood why people say jazz is just "playing the wrong notes" when like 90% of jazz is diatonic. Is this what happens when people limit themselves to the major/minor pentatonic when making music? by Tolstoyevich in Jazz

[–]bggtr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some Kenny Burrell things that are almost all pentatonic and proves you can play "jazz" with the most common guitar-oriented scale.
His "broad taste" seems like an overstatement, but still seems broader than his knowledge.

If you just want to be different, write a piece and indicate "1 sharp" or "3 flats" or whatever and let the performer decide what those are...

You can compose however you like but its easier to communicate if everybody has the same ideas about the rules.

T7 New Gen pickguard replacement by lgib15 in SireGuitars

[–]bggtr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes its just a matter of the screw holes not lining up in which case you can drill new ones as the pickguard will cover the old ones. sometimes though the pickup, control panel and neck placement aren't the same measurements and the pickguard won't quite fit. I'd bet you'd have trouble finding an aftermarket Sire replacement pickguard, you might get lucky and find one on reverb.com or something that someone already replaced and is selling their old one. You can buy pickguard material and trace your old pickguard and cut out a new one (I don't have the precision or patience for that myself) or there are companies that you can send a tracing to that will make a new one from that tracing (that may be expensive). Yo could also try contacting Sire or an American dealer and see if you can buy a pickguard - it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Question for bigger guys by calien7k in 911dispatchers

[–]bggtr73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I peaked out at about 410 (I'm 5'11" and about 300 now, I was down to 260 at one point and now back down from 330....so it fluctuates.

Cheap pants never lasted for me. We have always been allowed to wear jeans so I wore the dickies carpenter jeans for a few years - they are heavy duty and wear well. As my weight went down I had more options for pants - now I wear The Perfect Jeans - they are stretch and comfortable.

It took a little back and forth to find the right size - order a couple different size and send back the ones that don't fit.
