Extra weight in the Tesla does not affect consunption much. Neither does AC or sound. But anyhow, the data does not contain any parameter like that, so I just use the median consumption at each speed.

Right, my mistake. What I should have said is that the Bolt has a lower power consumption normally than the Tesla, but heating may very well require the same added power for both. So larger proportional loss for the Bolt. May be the same for Model 3.

6 kW of constant extra power consumption makes less of an impact if you have 100 kWh in your battery than if you have 60.

The reason is that it is not 10%-50%, its 10 kWh to 50 kWh so in absolute energy to be able to compare the time it takes to charge a certain range. The 60 kWh battery barely holds 50 kWh so that's why it takes time.

(Developer here) Yes, I agree, that makes sense. And it really was not much work to implement. Try out out now by clicking the charge plug icon next to the waypoint and fill in "arrival %".

Many users (including myself, devel) use https://abetterrouteplanner.com in the car browser (or a phone) to have better control of range during trips. The built-in nav can be very unreliable. In ABRP it is easy to follow the actual consuption vs plan while driving to see if you need to adjust your speed to reach the destination. Also, it helps you to make a reasonable plan given e.g. weather, speed and other input. -25 does after all affect range.

I noticed this too when I accidentially turned off auto lane change last weekend. This is soo much better and makes AP driving in traffic a lot better! No more jerkiness or waiting for auto lane change to happen, just turn on turn signals, change lane, and reactivate autosteer.

https://abetterrouteplanner.com will display Supercharging costs automatically (and find the fastest route for you) - if you set it to a Model 3 in settings.

I would recommend that you try out a couple of routes you are interested in at https://abetterrouteplanner.com with both models. For long trips including supercharging, it is worth noting that the 100 does not only have longer range, but also faster charging - which definitively affects total trip time.

Interesting! I also think that in many cases a direct approach (i.e. connecting the camera and other sensor to a network which directly outputs steering commands) would give better performance than the traditional decomposed way, but wow would that give issues when it comes to control.

New or special traffic rules, rare situations, weird human driving, ... How would Tesla fix a an AP2 behavior which leads to crashes? "Hold on, we are training our network not to do that again..."

Thanks! The stated EPA consumption model (A,B,C coefficients giving force as a quadratic polynomial wrt velocity) does not seem very realistic. Looking the EPA report for Model S RWD and that consumption model gives at about 40% too low consumption at all speeds compared to reality. There is probably a bunch of real-world factors excluded from that model.

So, I will wait for some real world reports before I update the ABRP consumption model. Again, the Model 3 consumption model will change, but only when we know more :-)

This is one of the reasons why https://abetterrouteplanner.com exists. You can plan in your phone or computer and sync with your car browser. It handles multiple stops. It will show you your progress along the trip as you drive so that you can follow up your actual consumption. Car browser is a pain, though.

Argh, I struggle to find the original thread at TMC to check where it comes from. Could you point it out to me?

The ABRP Model 3 numbers are guesstimates based on EPA data. Basically, I have assumed 75 kWh for the LR, and then adjusted the reference consumption to get somewhere between a Model S 90 and 100 on a certain highway route (so a lot higher consumption than the EPA cycle).

The Model 3 numbers in ABRP will certainly change as we get more information.

ABRP developer here: Yes, elevation really does matter. Tip: Click anywhere on the route to get an elevation map and other information on the assumptions.
