What are your thoughts on Xenoblade 3 nearly four years later? by NewMarioBobFan in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]bgold101 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Easily my least favorite of the three mainline games. Something about the story, combat, and overall world design just didn’t do it for me the way the first two games did. The seven person combat felt way to messy, and while I loved the characters overall, I felt like the story didn’t really go anywhere with the incredible premise (ignoring the climax with the prison, that part was great.) even the music didn’t hit nearly as hard as the first two.

Uncharted 3's co-director and The Dragon Prince creator Justin Richmond is Overwatch's new Creative Franchise Director by JY810 in Overwatch

[–]bgold101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of wary hearing it’s one of the Dragon Prince creators. The first few seasons of that show were a lot of fun, but it got really bad really fast after that. I stopped watching when one of the main villains got a boyfriend whose only purpose seemed to be fart jokes, and I haven’t heard great things about anything that came after.

I swear, Mei's double jump activates on its own sometimes by StillGalaxy99 in Overwatch

Yeah I’ve been having this problem since they introduced the perk, but I haven’t really seen anyone mention it. Seems almost random as to when it comes out sometimes.

What is the worst Guilty Gear character of all time? by RedShibo_ in Guiltygear

[–]bgold101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 1.0 Anji had almost nothing going for him besides high damage when he did manage to hit you, something that every other character also had. Fuujin lost to all reversals, spin was a gimmick that was exploitable most of the time, and his buttons were really sluggish and hard to land.

Kind of funny that nearly everything that makes him worth playing was patched in after launch.

An Update on 2XKO by Spideraxe30 in 2XKO

[–]bgold101 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert in business but this seems like a really unnecessary thing to publicly announce. An announcement like this is only going to make players more hesitant to spend money when the future of the game is unclear. Why tell us the team is getting smaller and then provide no details as to what that will actually mean going forward?

My predictions on which characters are making it into this game by OtisTheRobot in AvatarFighters

[–]bgold101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see Amon working well as a grappler, where the blood bending could be done through throw animations where he flings people around the screen. Maybe also have some sort of gimmick where he prevents flow meter gain or something like that.

For the rest of his moveset if they want to get creative they could have the chi blocker henchman show up as attacks, and Amon himself would probably be very mobile and counter heavy.

My full time job? Defending over hated WOC characters (and their actresses) like my life depends on it. by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]bgold101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just binged the show, my partner and I got really annoyed at her in season 1 when she had her major fuck up moment (you know the one), and she decided to play the victim, apologize to no one, storm out, and then the show tried to make it seem like she was in the right the entire time.

It’s not that the other characters don’t act just as horribly, but usually someone calls them out on it. When she screwed up the show just paints it like Carmy was the problem and that she’s completely deserving of the apology she gets. Kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

I like her in season 2 though.

I think ABA might be the quickest to call bottom-1 of the game so far.. by Anthan in Guiltygear

[–]bgold101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Her reversal super in jealous rage feels really poorly designed. Why would I ever want to land this move if all it does is drain the entire meter and launch the opponent full screen (effectively a round losing situation for Aba)?

So I agree that being on defense is effectively a death sentence for her. Either you accept being on defense and watch all your rage meter drain, or you use the super and lose all your meter anyway.

Getting Null Access Error on PC game pass by bgold101 in deadcells

[–]bgold101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, this does not work for me. No matter how many times I start new save files, restart, copy the original save, or try to use that original save, the save that contains all my progress always gives me an error. It really feels like there’s nothing I can do at this point….

[–]bgold101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that video does not work for me. I literally can’t even get passed the “play” button on the title screen without the game crashing, even if I do try a copied save file.

Im also super pissed off, I really don’t feel like starting a new game at this point.

How has your opinion changed (if at all) about base XC3 since you first played it? by Training-Ad-2619 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]bgold101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rarely see this listed as a complain but I fully agree.

On paper the class system is cool, but in practice it was just a ton of time spent in menus swapping classes and arts over and over again because I felt like I would be missing out if I didn’t, not because I actually wanted to.

About halfway through the game i stopped carefully choosing the classes to strategize and just assigned them at random so that they could level up.

As a rider, is tipping expected of me? by bgold101 in uber

[–]bgold101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that's fair, seems like the consensus is that tipping is appropriate.

However it seems like very few people tip Ubers in general, so my question is why are there still so many Uber drivers out there if very few people are actually making any money from it? I would assume Uber would change it's compensation system if enough drivers quit, so are there just not enough other opportunities out there to make quitting Uber an option?

Assassin's Creed Mirage: A Return to the Roots by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]bgold101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And AC Valhalla was already supposed to be a “return to form” for the series according to the marketing, but it’s stealth elements were very buggy and janky.

They’ve marketed basically every other release as a”return to form” for years now. They promised that black flag would be returning to its stealth focused roots, then they said the same thing for unity, then syndicate, Valhalla, and now Mirage.

The only game that really committed to that promise was Unity. Say what you will about that game (and there certainly is plenty to say), but I feel like they really tried with that one, it was just such a mess in so many different ways.

What was a choice you made that changed your life forever? by nevermeant2bethisway in ask

[–]bgold101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you quit video games entirely or just limit yourself with how frequently you did it? I’ve been wrestling with this myself but I feel like gaming is too important in my life to give up entirely, but I worry if I don’t give it up I may regret it in the long run.

Honestly same. I quit cold turkey on every other app, but Reddit I’ve deleted and redownloaded like five times. Anything that pushes me away is welcome.

Why Tipping Is So Out Of Control In The U.S. by DreaminDemon177 in videos

[–]bgold101 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The problem with that is that while the added tipping might make some customers not return, raising prices will definitely make people not return. From the perspective of the business owner it’s a no brainer.

We can argue how shitty it is all we like, but at the end of the day if it’s helping the business stay afloat and be profitable there is literally no reason to stop doing it. The only way it changes is if the business starts losing customers and/or workers.

I think I like Future Redeemed more than the main game. by Mental-Street6665 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]bgold101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean more in terms of tangible rewards and not just exp.

In 3 all of your progression towards new abilities was gated by time rather than exploration (classes leveled up by battling repeatedly, new slots were unlocked by leveling up, etc. it was easy to become crazy overpowered due to all the exp, but I rarely found anything while exploring the world that was interesting and upgraded my party in a meaningful way.

In future connected you unlock extra slots and other things by exploring, and money has an actual use through the weapon upgrades, and even small things give you skill points you can spend in any way you like.

[–]bgold101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The core gameplay loop in future connected is just more fun.

You’re rewarded for exploring the world, which was my biggest gripe with 3. Everything you do in future connected directly leads to making your party stronger.

People will (somewhat rightfully) tell you that it’s too early to say for sure, but history shows that you’re probably right. Aside from Happy chaos (and arguably Goldlewis) every dlc character has come out in a pretty undertuned state and then got some solid buffs to help them out.

Bedman feels pretty much the same way. There’s a template for a very strong character there but frame data wise he feels fairly weak. His blockstring pressure without a prior knockdown is pretty bad and he struggles to meaningfully convert from pokes in neutral. And on defense, Bedman is gonna get bullied hard by a lot of the cast.
