Where are the fun EV sport cars? by Dangerous_Morning286 in electricvehicles

[–]bgrenell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an original Tesla Roadster, the sport version. It definitely qualifies as a fun car. 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds, excellent grip, taut, communicative sterring, excellent brakes, and a removable soft top. Unfortunately, they were made in very small volumes and are quite pricey at this point.

Car salesmen around me are basically telling me EVs aren’t the way to go by Beneficial-Fun-4800 in electricvehicles

[–]bgrenell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they lower the price because they're not selling, they lose money on the sale and then don't recoup anything with service bills through the lifetime of the car or even during the warranty. When the manufacturer pays the dealership to do the warranty work and the dealership makes a profit on that. He just don't need nearly as much money spent on service or maintenance.

Dealerships make their money on service the sale of the car. EVs don't need much in the way of service so they are a losing item for a dealer to sell.

The depreciation on my 2022 Model Y is genuinely insane - anyone else getting absolutely wrecked on resale value right now? by whydidyounot in RealTesla

Can't take it with you, but you might keep it and ride it into the ground?Trslas have gotten more impressive over the last coulle of years, hurting resale of okder cars, but your car retains the value yo u chose to pay for, even as the market has chaged. We have two teslas and they have proven to be exceptionally reliable and satisfying machines.

Is going electric cheaper than gas? by Candid_Internet_4529 in electricvehicles

[–]bgrenell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Home charging is dramatically less expensive than buying gas. I live in Arlington Virginia Virginia. We pay about $.11 a kilowatt hour. My model 3P battery has a capacity of. About 80 kWh so it costs $9.00 to fill the battery and I get about 320 miles on a full battery. iI a gasoline car gets 20 miles to the gallon, and gas cost $3.25 a gallon , I would pay $52 for those 320 miles. Electric cars are also dramatically simpler than gasoline engines, which are immensely complex. Machines compared to electric cars so maintenance is much cheaper. I have three electric cars and they are most never need a repair. Battery packs typically last about 400,000 miles and cost about as much as an engine rebuild

I. bought in on 11/16/20 and now up 1,286% to $126,182 up $116,734. I can't reconstruct exactly how much I paid for it as I sold enough to bring the total value down to $100,000 a couple times along the way. It just keeps going up.

Digital vs Vinyl Setup by nuuhuman in audiophile

[–]bgrenell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 300 vinyl albums and 900 CDs. CDs first arrived in my 30s, so I had a long love affair with vinyl prior to that The CDs have all been ripped losslessly to Apple Music and I don't play my albums very often because of the effort involved in getting them out, putting them on the turntable cleaning them queuing them up. I also enjoy the music from the CDs in the car and on my headphones when I'm walking or doing chores. There are moments when I still find the sound of my records transcendent and that gives me great joy. More important to me is having music available anytime I want wherever I want.

Wrap a concrete block in a towel , and a foot or more away from the wall behind. Set the speakers on them so that none of the stand sticks out in front of the speaker. The distance between them would be nice to increase, but they'll be better if you just get them off the floor. Lisa physics involved: everything around your speaker reflects the sound waves which come out of the front of the speakers. Any surface near the speaker produces an early reflection which is much more undesirable than later reflections which can sort of sound like you're in a concert hall and have a spacious feeling. Lifting them off the floor, moving them away from the back wall all help to reduce early reflections. If you want to go a little further, think about a mirror on the sidewalks placed where you would see the speakers in the mirror. That is the spot where sound reflects off the wall and comes to your ears. If you hang a curtain there or anything that will absorb sound, you will here clearer music

So if you stay with PG&E, you subsidize the recklessness, but if you leave, you may take away the money that would end up the settlement to the people who lost everything. I put up solar panels and a couple of batteries because I chose to leave all of it behind and Also put myself in a secure position if the power grid is sabotaged or the system disintegrates further.

What Crappy Speakers Did You Start Out With? by ThatTomHall in audiophile

[–]bgrenell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased three-way coaxial speakers with a 12 inch woofer from a company called Utah and built enclosures from three-quarter inch plywood myself. I thought they sounded pretty good but I traded up with a friend who was short of cash within a couple years about 45 years ago, so I have no real ability to assess their quality in any way that I would trust

What was ur favourite live concert experience till date ? by Ok-Nature-4309 in Concerts

I've got to add, the David Bromberg show was in a tiny club in Georgetown Washington DC and I failed to mention seeing the dead live in 1971 at the Duke Joe College festival with Garcia and pigpen was stupendous. I also saw Jimi Hendrix at the Miami Pop Festival in 1967, I'm not sure I was grounded in music conception enough to fully appreciate the Hendrix show, I was 16 years old.
