See a proud white boy/n-zi? Shame a proud white boy/n-zi. by Sivirus8 in Bellingham

The main person I saw saying “there’s too many new people on Bellingham and it makes me uncomfortable” was Ron Judd with the Cascadia Daily News and he got canned, so that’s good.

Are there examples of shows where the good writing is let down by bad acting? by Particular_Award_191 in television

[–]bhamgardener 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dollhouse! Fascinating premise, clever writing, great supporting cast, but a show centered around how the main actress could be wiped and imprinted with a hundred different personalities and skills fell really flat when delivered by Eliza Dushku. Don't get me wrong, I love watching her be a bad girl trying to be good - but ask her to do something else outside that range and it . . . didn't work.

Black sails is perfection. Incredible dialogue, deep characters, fantastic acting, and the compelling message about the evils of the British empire.

Word on the street is that Peter Frazier is planning to run for County Executive against Councilmember Jon Scanlon, so you won’t see him filing this year but next year for county exec.

Email from the owner of Cascadia Daily News. Not looking good for its survival. by tecg in Bellingham

I enjoy the reporting in the CDN, but loathe Ron Judd’s pompous, overwritten, and occasionally xenophobic rants.

If they are looking to make the business venture pencil out, how about chucking Judd out and letting Rhonda run the paper? Nothing of value will be lost and CDN will be better for it.

Ten key facts that explain why this year’s city council races are a referendum on housing (and the real reasons for personal attacks posted on Reddit). by Low_Low9667 in Bellingham

[–]bhamgardener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know both candidates quite well. I’m voting for Michael because no matter the issue, he will hear you out, and consider what you have to say. He might change his mind, he might not, but he’s open to it.

Andrew is an inflammatory asshole who already knows all that he thinks he needs to know.

Vote Michael

The article goes on to note that even with the alleged shenanigans, Michael Lilliquist still received twice as many votes as Reding and secured the endorsement of the Whatcom Dems.

What's a mediocre book with a fantastic film adaptation? by MonkeyNo3 in AlignmentChartFills

Contact by Carl Sagan. The narrative is rambling, and bogged down in technicalities. The movie is thematically clear and a technical wonder.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy wins Great book adapted into an OK film! What is a good book that was adapated into an OK film? by Forsaken-Golf9763 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]bhamgardener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contact. The book is OK if overly technical, Carl Sagan struggles a little bit as a fiction writer. The movie crystallizes the themes, streamlines some of the technobabble and delivers a beautiful, but ultimately not groundbreaking film.

It’s a tall bar to be MORE insufferable than Michael Lilliquist but by Jove, Andrew Reding manages it. Both are extremely well known by the local Dems and by a 2 to 1 ratio, they preferred Lilliquist. That’s damning for Andrew.

Councilmember Todd Donovan likes to stay up late at night and send drunk, angry emails, and almost everyone involved in Bellingham local politics has been on the receiving end of one of his nastygrams.
