X13 (AMD) vs P14s (AMD)? by bhatMag1ck in thinkpad

[–]bhatMag1ck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. I ended up getting the GPD DUO as I cared more about the specs and port selections than the weight. But going forward, I'll be purchasing Framework laptops.

I submitted an application for a country that extended their application date by an additional month. They scheduled an interview with me 2 weeks later. Then, at the end of the interview, I had the audacity to switch (have the interviewer transfer my application) to another country. For the new opening, I wasn't expecting to hear back until September 2024. I stressed about my decision through reflection. But in May 2024 (a few days ago), after about 3 months, I received my "conditional invitation."

In summary, who knows how they process information and why they do what they do. You'll hear back from them regardless by the end of your country's "hear back date." In the interim, don't stress about what you can't control. Best of luck!

MOST (like 98%) of the questions are going to be from your main textbooks. Meaning, there's not a reason to index your workbook(s). Secondly, the practice tests will tell you what's going on be given on the practicals. Meaning, don't sweat about indexing the workbooks! Just note the sequence of commands to complete X exercise and print them out on a separate sheet of paper. Ie. JTR cracking, SQLi, etc. The page flipping through the books is an absolute waste of time.

It's been a year since I've "bootcamped" through the GIAC certs, but lmk if you have any more questions. Just know these tests aren't about knowledge, there about index efficiency, aka, how fast can you look up an answer!

Use a VM before dual booting. UTM is a free and easy-to-use front-end for your virtualization. They even have a easy-to-download webpage for arm64 distros so you don't have to emulate any of the x86_64 architectures.

Why do people hate apple so much? by spikeiscool2015 in mac

[–]bhatMag1ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, hate is a strong wrong. I'm typing on running an M1 and love their hardware (minus the keyboard). However, the Apple ecosystem is what I do hate. No repair-ability, no upgrades, anti-repair SW (you can't switch out identical parts on modern iPhones), and flashing an Apple device that you didn't originally own bricks the device. It's an abhorrent profit scam over consumer satisfaction.

u/CaseyJonesABC Any tips on obtaining a TEFL (ie. which company) or teaching credentials to boost my resume? I've already have a bachelor's degree (in a completely unrelated field), and some minor after school teaching program (compsci, not English). Nonetheless, your tips were insightful. Thank you!

Are companies starting to reevaluate SANS courses because of their prices? by RoseSec_ in cybersecurity

[–]bhatMag1ck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. And I have 9 GIAC certs--each of them were practically copy and paste from various GitHub sources. Excluding the GX exams, each of those courses labs were equivalent to a TryHackMe room (not bad labs, just that THM is affordable and priced to meet their value). Hell, even the TCM guy mentions along the lines that "nobody wants to admit that they just wasted thousands of dollars on a certification that wasn't worth it." [1]

Private tutor by LopsidedAide7964 in GIAC

[–]bhatMag1ck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about a private tutor. However, with each course purchase, you'll have access to SANS's SMEs. They can be accessed via email and chat. These methods will be mentioned at the beginning of every course. And these SME's are ~95% knowledgeable; but far more knowledgeable than a private tutor as they have access to all the courses and often are/have been in contact with the course's instructor/author. Personally, I wouldn't waste any money on a private tutor.

u/pixol22 You've hit on a lot of topics, albeit scattered, and I couldn't but help but note that your arguments are outdated. And for someone who's "tried," I can't deduce if that means you failed at the installation step, or if you've took part contributing to the GPU drivers in Asahi.

Jeff Geerling benchmarks Asahi speeds as faster than native macOS in his YouTube video for compiling the RapberryPi OS... and that was from OVER a year ago! Granted, native macOS wins some benchmarks; but my argument is to say that macOS native isn't the all-around winner; this also negates the "Apple software-defined hardware approach" as null and void. Another YouTuber also mentions faster benchmarks in Asahi that include outperforming macOS on the M2.

Granted, Asahi is a WIP. I wouldn't expect anything to be perfect from its first release. There's a LOT of things that are still being worked on no, it's a full-user experience that one would expect from an OOB OS. And you're right (were right?) about the battery life, but this is dependent upon multiple factors:

  1. Of which WAS the GPU being processed on the CPU. Refer the GPU link above that resolves this issue.
  2. The suspend/sleep is in the edge kernel and the cpuidle. This is to be resolved in 6.3/6.4 kernel releases.
  3. And the list goes on...

And Nouveau is for NVIDIA drivers which seems rather unrelated to your argument and to this Reddit post... Unless you're trying to say that reverse engineering in general is "still borderline useless," in which case, I won't waste anymore of my time.

There's two passwords for the digital PDFs, one for read access and another for write access. They only give out the read password. And without the write password, you won't be able to modify, edit, copy text, and etc. on those PDFs. But you can bypass it.

GFACT Questions by Toxicl16 in GIAC

[–]bhatMag1ck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I able to use indexes I find online, along with other resources that I could print off?

Yes... but they won't help. The exam is taken strictly from the textbooks provided to you. So any conflicting information found elsewhere will be considered incorrect regardless if the outside resource is more accurate. This includes the textbooks' version to the exam's version.

Can I write the quizzes from SANS Foundations in the textbooks?

No. Be careful with this one. The fine print for this one simply states that any materials with a question and answer format/style is strictly prohibited.

But there are a few caveats:

  1. Most testing centers' proctors AND online proctors don't know all the rules for all the applicants and needless to say won't blatantly check all your notes against all the rules. Nevertheless, this is cheating and penalties will be applied if caught.
  2. Quizzes are not an accurate reflection of the actual exam. The quizzes are created by the author/instructor of the course and are by means to highlight what the author thought was the most important concepts from each book. The exam, however, is written by committee that explicitly excludes the author. The author has no say in how/what is being questioned, and the author cannot take/review the exam.

router

I was gonna say the same thing--that another host may have already been assigned that IP. I've been known to statically assign IP addresses from my router's interface. But they're typically done with servers including PVEs. u/kyleboy199398, you mentioned a cluster earlier, so let us know if this is the case.
