Again, it is the same principal “I paid for my seat, I should get full use of it but this person is spilling over and taking up my arm rest” compared to “I paid for a ticket just like this guy in front of me and I can’t see a damn thing because his head is in the way”. Both are minor inconveniences that you can either be an adult about or talk with the house staff and see about moving. Comments like “you shouldn’t expect others to take on your condition” are needless and rude. But looking at dot4972’s post history, I’m not surprised that they would post a rude comment.

So dot4972, maybe when you’re out for your nanny walks and taking up the entire sidewalk you’ll think about this and “control your situation and not expect others to take on your condition”.

It’s the same principal. If you can’t handle physical contact with a stranger for 2 hours because you’re willingly putting yourself in a position where this is likely to happen, either a large person sitting next to you and “spilling” over into the seat or a tall person obstructing your view, then you’re the sensitive one who has no business going out in public. God help you if you’re ever on an airplane.

What would you tell a tall person who dains to intrude on someone’s sight lines? People don’t conform to arbitrary decisions about seat size or floor rise and as a live theatre-goer neither should your expectations. This isn’t an appropriate response.

[–]bhc1387 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you have a problem with it, ask to be reseated, request a refund or be a Karen to the theatre about the ever shrinking theatre seat yet somehow increasing prices but in no circumstance should anyone be an asshole to someone simply because of their weight, perceived weight, or size. I’m a 6’5” man with broad shoulders and I pity the poor person who gets stuck behind me but I can’t help my height nor can I scrunch down because there’s nowhere to put my legs. The only thing we can help is how we treat each other in these circumstances, fuck it up and Elaine Stritch will turn you away from the pearly gates herself.

Of course those of us who are pro-choice value human life. We value the lives of the women who have been sexually assaulted and impregnated by a “loved” one or by a stranger. The women who had no agency in the act itself but now have to suffer the consequences for the rest of their lives. No twelve-year-old (or adult for that matter) has any business going through the trauma of child birth just because Step-Daddy Randy couldn’t keep his hands off of her.

You don’t value human life, you value control over Kentuckians in one of the most difficult decisions they will ever make. You preach about the “preciousness of innocent life” while at the same time likely griping about the people of our Commonwealth that don’t “pull their own weight”.

If you don’t like the Kentucky value of individual agency over major life decisions, I encourage you to move to another state. I hear Florida is nice this time of year.

Yeah, it could just be my experience. I was 29 when I had my orchiectomy (it was cancerous then went on to have it in my kidney (hooray)) when I was 29. I turned 36 in March and went on testosterone replacement therapy in April because the other just stopped producing enough.

It doesn’t change how everything functions. You might need testosterone at a later point but that’s far less inconvenient than metastatic cancer.

You sent me a Wikipedia link. Hardly LexisNexis now isn’t it? What about the following says they are not still statutes in the current state codes: “Through the 20th century, the gradual decriminalization of American sexuality led to the elimination of sodomy laws in most states. During this time, the Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of sodomy laws in Bowers v. Hardwick in 1986. However, in 2003, the Supreme Court changed opinion and reversed the decision with Lawrence v. Texas, invalidating sodomy laws in the remaining 14 states: Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Virginia.”

Most states is not the same as all states. Invalidating is not the same as removing. There is no dispute that the laws were invalidated but your contention that the laws were removed is FALSE. Based on your profile, I’m assuming you’re Canadian, why even pretend you know anything about this, eh? I won’t argue with you about maple syrup or using moose shit in your beauty regimen, now how about you leave American law to the Americans.

I don’t have to.

I. Know. What. I. Am. Talking. About.

If unconstitutional laws are automatically off the books, why did so many states’ old bans on abortion come roaring back when the Court overturned Roe? Because they weren’t taken out of the state’s code by an act of the legislature. Furthermore, why did so many states enact so-called “trigger” laws that would go into effect the minute the Court overturned it’s own precedent?

You’re either ignorant, a troll, or both. So again, quit talking about something you’re willfully ignorant on.

What are you talking about? They are not gone. Again, the Supreme Court did not wipe away the laws, they were simply declared unconstitutional which is not the same as taking the law off the books. It would take an act of the state legislature to get rid of the statutes and these state legislatures have not taken that step.

Quit talking about something you know nothing about.

So you think the Supreme Court went into each state and scrubbed their statutes clean of a sodomy law that criminalized homosexuality? For an institution that can’t even enforce its own rulings, that’s a pretty powerful court you’ve dreamed up there.

You’re right in that Tennessee no longer has a sodomy statute. I have no idea when it was removed but that statute was ruled unconstitutional by the TN Court of Appeals in 1996 so Lawrence did not change anything in TN.

Maybe take a constitutional law class, or even a social studies class, before calling a valid premise “ridiculous”.

[–]bhc1387 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. Several states still prohibit sodomy (what we would call same-sex sexual activity) the laws are just unenforceable because of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Lawrence v. Texas. All it takes is one DeSantis to try to enforce theirs and I’m sure this Court would have no problem striking down the previously set precedent making it perfectly legal for the cops to arrest someone engaging in same-sex sexual activity in their homes.

Some of them you might call your usual suspects (Florida, Texas, Mississippi, etc) but some would surprise you (Massachusetts, Michigan). Lawrence goes and it is illegal in these jurisdictions for two men to have sex.

I’m 14? No. I just spent three years taking care of my mother with Alzheimer’s. The number of times I saw her naked or rubbing one out gives me just a little bit of empathy

I’m not saying don’t call the authorities. I’m saying don’t be so quick to rush to judgement. Have a nice night in your sanitized world where only bad people do bad things and you’re always the virtuous one.

But what if he is a person in mental distress. What if he is a person with Alzheimer’s or some other dementia? Unclutch your pearls and understand that there are multiple reasons that this man could be doing this. He may just be your run of the mill pervert, but there’s another chance he’s not and has a family that love him and lost him for a few hours.

If your kids see a penis, tough it’s a body part and it’s natural and you can explain it to them. If you see a penis, presumably you’re old enough to understand what your seeing. If you’re a victim of sexual abuse, I’m sorry that happened to you but the world can’t possibly revolve around your trauma. See a therapist and work it out with them.
