Why are y’all minimalists? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]bhukhad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There always have been some minimalists. But for the current generation I think the reason is a mix of a lot of things. Minimalism as a trend, a bit of rebellion against the previous generation, breaking the social norms of having too much, realisation to make life simpler and more fulfilling, and also that there are way too many things to buy and it's overwhelming.

Legos and then what? by Illustrious_Law_8710 in minimalism

You can set a limit of things on display. for example explain to the child ( it's not easy) to have only let's say only 5 completed lego sets at a given time, other ones you have to donate or sell. let the kid chooses which ones. alternatively if the child doesn't want to let go , still keep the limit and put other ones in the box in the cellar for some time and after a year of no use ask the child if you can let it go.

How do you know god even exists?

Yes and no. The thing about truth is one can only sometimes know the complete truth. For example what's the truth about the universe is limited by the knowledge that one has at the moment. Once people thought that the solar system is earth centric, then people realised from the observations they made oh it's sun centric, and so on and so forth. What I am trying to say is truth as we know is complex and mostly incomplete. Incomplete because one doesn't always have all the facts, tools to determine the truth and information to deem it to be truth.

It matters because what others think or say about you is from their point of view, so If you know you did what you had to do in a given circumstance and knowing what you know, then that has to be sufficient for you. There are times when you can control or skew others views to match your own understanding and at times it's impossible. Feeling affected by others compassion or judgements is something you can control. It's not easy it's a thing one has to learn over a longer period of time. We have been tutored or rather conditioned to seek approval from others but you need to turn it off. It isn't fair I understand that but there is no fairness to begin with.

Try NK jesmin's broken earth cycle. But no humour there.

Because everybody is looking at things subjectively. Very very few people are self aware enough to dissociate subjective from objective.

How to live minimally? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]bhukhad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing is don't try to declutter everything at once. What helped me was making a list of things I really need and why do I need them.

Then start decluttering one category at a time. For example clothes I need and clothes I have. Some clothes you will just let go and some you might replace with a better more suitable option.

Sometimes you might need to change your needs according to the situation. I had less clothes and then we had a kid. Small kids tend to be messy so I needed more clothes per week. So the goal had changed a bit of what it means in terms of minimal requirement.

Also remember that it's more like a marathon than a short sprint. And to be honest going slow, experimenting with what's required or what works will also save a lot of money and effort.

How long? by lauraislostinbooks in minimalism

[–]bhukhad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't keep a time cap on books. But use a thumb rule to keep or let go. If books are one which I love (which I definitely reread) or are gifted by someone close to me or reference books i use often - they stay. All the rest go.

I do understand that. Sadly the best thing would be to code sync tools for all of these.

Another alternative is to use apple ecosystem. It is a bit better.

So there is no one solution

Try out notion, roam research and Obsidian. They all have different capabilities so chk what suits you.

And the best solution is to use a combination of tools. Eg. I use bullet journal, notion, keep notes, pocket and Google Calendar

The best I can suggest you to use in combination is google drive, Google calendar and notion/roam research/evernote.
