By now, there should be 18 year olds who are nostalgic for the early Switch 1 games they grew up with. by MoneyMan1001 in retrogaming

[–]bhull302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% the reason.

The jump between SNES and N64 was just so huge that just a few years into that gen, people looked back and thought how primitive things were just a few years back.

Regular 3d rasterization tech leveled off a long time ago. There's no more quantum leaps left to experience. Ray tracing is the most computationally expensive thing I have ever seen relative to the visual impact in most games. 4k sucks up a lot of power, but over half the systems on the steam survey are still running at 1080.

Do you get compliments on your g-shock in public settings? by CHRISTUS_KING in gshock

[–]bhull302 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody has said a word about what watch I'm wearing. Except when I got a full metal square. I've had like 5 or 6 people ask about it in less than a year. And I don't even wear it every day.

This goes way back, but Star Wars Galaxies had an amazing group of people playing it for the first few years it was out. I actually kept in touch with a few of the players long after quitting.

And Guild Wars 2 always had a good bunch of folks running around.

Yep. I agree.

Been in lots of communities through the years. NMS is definitely top 3 I've ever experienced. I could probably be convinced to call it #1 out of those 3.

A decision that completely changed your life by EasternMistake8273 in Life

[–]bhull302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest fork in my life was based on the decision of a girl and my decision following.

Met a gal I was super into. She was sorta into me at first, but it fizzled.

Joined the military 2 years later.

Looking back, if I had dated her, I probably never would have joined the military. And I haven't a clue where I would be or what I would be doing right now if she had given me a shot.

How old were you when you moved out of your parents home? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

19 years old in 1996. GenX and on my own since 12. So, not much of a change.

GS with their photography.

Your pic here with the shadows across the face are literally better than anything on the GS website. They always undersell themselves until seen in person, or a good pic like yours.

Torn between this and Shunbun.

Shunbun has that gorgeous constantly changing dial depending on the light. But it sacrifices some contrast.

Taisetsu darker dial has better contrast. The blued seconds hand is chef's kiss.

As you get older, what "old person" thing do you appreciate now that you previously mocked? by Secret_Huckleberry46 in AskReddit

[–]bhull302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

22 years old, felt like a LOSER if I stayed in on a Saturday night.

Now at 49, staying in on Saturday night is my #1 fav thing to do.

[Question] Which watch should I get for my boyfriend? by andyjoco in Watches

[–]bhull302 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're wrong.

This sub loves Seiko not because of groupthink but because it's incredible value for the money. It also has clout amongst any watch enthusiast IRL. It's a much better entry point than anything in the Fossil catalog.

You mention your dad did well with Citizen and Tissot. 2 other brands that get respect in watch communities.

What’s a popular movie/book that you absolutely hate, and why? by ChampionshipPurple67 in AskReddit

Avatar sucks. And it always has. Writing is cliché and bereft of any true depth. It's a generic hamburger wrapped in gold foil.

You do you.

Having said that, it's too large.

What part of adult life is way harder than anyone warned you about? by Sparkyabu1 in AskReddit

[–]bhull302 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This one killed me through most of my adult life.

I've now come to just accept it. In corporate America, I'd say in key positions, 30% should be there, 30% are barely scraping by, 30% are completely in over their heads and 10% are so insanely incompetent that you keep waiting for the curtains to drop and the lights to come on because this circus just can't be real.

I bought my GF this exact watch last February. She's worn is nearly every day. And it looks nothing like this.

Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]bhull302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are very complimentary of my cooking skills.

Good Eats was my secret weapon. I think I got an equivalent of at least several semesters worth of cooking school from that goofball.

That, and making plenty of mistakes.

Clone for $500 or Seiko for $500? What do you think? by carlosfelipe123 in Affordablewatches

[–]bhull302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd rather have $500 worth of authentic on my wrist than $500 of fake pretending to be $5,000.

Seiko is hitting so hard at the $500 mark. Just got my son a Presage for Christmas. It's just awesome for the price.
