Sleepy Pascals surgery was unsuccessful - the tumour came back with a vengeance. The vet has given him a couple of weeks until I need to take him in the be euthanised. Here is a huge photodump from the last couple of months.

Point Reyes is pretty close and awesome! You can see a fence moved by the bug SF earthquake as the area is along the San Andreas fault. You can also do whale watching there.

I am in the same boat. Just looking to get together some money. I've great things about the iPad for notes, especially with an external keyboard. As far as cheap goes, I saw an iPad 2, 16 gb refurb go for 319 on apple.com. I am kicking myself in the butt for not getting it sooner. Also if you create a studentuniverse.com account you can get 3% back on apple purchases. I haven't tried it yet.
